The team has weather’d every rink, the Cup we sought is won,
The Hall is near, the horns I hear, the people all exulting,
While follow eyes the steady beast, the Kraken grim and daring;
But O heart! heart! heart!
O the bleeding drops of TPE,
Where on the bench my Captain lies,
Fallen, cold and inactive.

O Captain! my Captain! rise up and hear the horns;
Rise up—for you the banner is hung—for you the whistle trills,
For you medals and trophies—for you the streets a-crowding,
For you they call, the swaying mass, their eager faces turning;
Here Captain! dear teammate!
This arm beneath your head!
It is some dream that on the bench,
You’ve fallen cold and inactive.

My Captain does not answer, his lips are pale and still,
This father does not feel my arm, he has no pulse nor will,
The team is resting safe and sound, its playoffs closed and done,
From fearful run the victor team comes in with Object won;
Exult O streets, and sound O horns!
But I with mournful tread,
Walk the deck my Captain lies,
Fallen cold and inactive.
