TBB Season 59 Draft & Trades (2x Media pls)
#1

Another Draft has come and gone for the newly rebranded Tampa Bay Barracuda, and they have not disappointed yet again. The Tampa Bay Barracuda have slowly been improving every season and even though they did finish Second to Last in the Eastern Conference, there was a lot of improvement top to bottom in Tampa Bay. They finished tied in last, with 54 points with the New England Wolfpack, and finished above The Minnesota Monarchs, The Seattle Argonauts, The San Francisco Pride, and the New Orleans Specters. The Tampa Bay Barracuda did have the tie breaker on the New England Wolfpack though, so that is why they were able to finish above them in the standings. Either which way, there is only one way to go up for Tampa from here, and not so long ago, the Barracuda were winless (Season 54 If I recall).

Going into the draft, there were just a few positions of real need for the Tampa Bay Barracuda, as some players are finally getting older, and that’s not saying a lot. The oldest players in Tampa Bay are all Season 50, which are Tom Fiddler, James Ronlain, Michael Fitted, Jakob Hamr and Tobias Lindeman. Right off the bat, that is Two Centers in Fiddler and Fitted, One Winger in Ronlain, One Defenseman in Hamr and then the backup goalie in Lindeman. So The Barracuda did not have many “Holes” per-say to fill, but still to fill nonetheless.

We’ll jump right into the draft now, with who the Tampa Bay Barracuda Selected, From where, TPE, and how they can fit the window for Tampa.

With the Thirteenth Overall Selection of the Season 59 SHL Draft, The Tampa Bay Barracuda Select – Ethan Bouchard, Right Defenseman from The St. Louis Scarecrows (Drafted TPE – 302) (Season 59 Draftee) @fever95

Ethan Bouchard comes into a veteran Defensive Core and will get to learn behind some great players. He can slide right into a lineup in a couple of seasons, as some of the other great Tampa Bay players, mostly Hamr, continues to get older and older. It looks like Ethan is a great defensive minded player, which can pair well with anyone. His primary defensive stats are Positioning, and Defensive Read at 13, to go with Checking and Stick Checking at 12. Ethan can continue to grow in the ever-growing Tampa Bay Barracuda Draft Pool, and when he finally is ready to jump up, he will be able to. He is the third highest TPE Defensemen in their prospects already and give it another season and he can easily be number one. We are excited to see Ethan Bouchard in the Tampa Bay Colors sooner rather then later.

With the Twenty Third Overall Selection of the Season 59 SHL Draft, The Tampa Bay Barracuda Select – Bob Duncan, Center from the Anaheim Outlaws (Drafted TPE – 293) (Season 59 Draftee) @Dagumpa

The First Center taken for the Tampa Bay Barracuda is Bob Duncan. As stated previously, The Tampa Bay Barracuda have Two Centers in Fiddler and Fitted, both at Season 50, which means that they will start regressing next off-season if I am correct. That means that Bob Duncan will have some great players to learn from and will be able to get some playing time sooner then later. There is only one Center in the Tampa Bay Prospect pool right now, which is Aleksander Kozlov, who will more likely than not be called up for Season 59. So that means, besides the fact that Bob Duncan will be the only Center in the prospect pool, he will have some nice shoes to fill when he gets to come up and partake with the Barracuda. His passing is already elite, sitting at a 12, to go along with his Getting Open and Offensive Read. Do not be surprised if Bob takes the Minors by storm this year with the Anaheim Outlaws.

With the Thirty First Overall Selection of the Season 59 SHL Draft, The Tampa Bay Barracuda Select – Marco Barengrub, Center from The Detroit Falcons (Drafted TPE – 299) (Season 59 Draftee) @gaby

Another Center to fill in the ranks of our older generation in Fitted and Fiddler. It will be quite interesting to see the friendly rivalry between Bob Duncan and Marco Barengrub in the prospect pool for the Tampa Bay Barracuda. While Bob is more offensively gifted, Marco is quite gifted defensively, sporting 12s in Checking, Positioning, Stickchecking and Defensive Read, to go with a 13 In Faceoffs. Marco is looking to level some players, as well as go stack assists for the Detroit Falcons. It is about to be a two man show in the Minors, watching Marco Barengrub and Bob Duncan faceoff night in and night out, at least in my eyes, for most time spent in the Gym. It’s looking like the Tampa Bay Barracuda are going to have some great players in the future, as long as they stay on their projected path.

With the Forty First Overall Selection of the Season 59 SHL Draft, The Tampa Bay Barracuda Select – Podan Podanovich, Goalie from The Detroit Falcons (Drafted TPE – 269) (Season 59 Draftee) @podzilla111

While the Tampa Bay Barracuda were able to fill needs at both Center and Defensemen with their earlier picks, they were able to fill another hole in their goalie situation. If wanted, the would be able to call up Podan Podanovic right away to already be better than Tobias Lindeman, as a backup goalie. Podzilla is spotting a very balanced build, sporting 12s in everything but poke check (11) puck handling (10) and Skating (9), and in my mind, when does a goalie need to puck handle, realistically, as well as skate? Goalies have one plan in mind, and that is sit in the goal and block shots. They don’t need to be great skaters. All in all, I will assume that it lies on Podan if he wants to come up and play with the big boys or not, or if he wants to stay down and help attempt bring a title to Detroit.

Tampa Bay only drafted four players this draft, but this can’t be complete without some draft day trades. The First Trade that the Tampa Bay Barracuda made was with the Calgary Dragons.

Tampa Bay Barracuda Send –
Season 59 Hamilton Second Round Pick (Pick #36)

Calgary Dragons Send –
Season 63 Calgary Dragons Second Round Pick

This trade, for all purposes, at least in my mind, was a push. Tampa Bay does not really have any more slots to fill and are really looking to add draft capital in the future. I am not 100% sure how Calgary is looking right now, so maybe adding this pick, and being able to select Janis Lux, who I am informed is a great person, might be able to be a great part of their future core. We do not know, and will not know for quite some time if that Second Round pick that Calgary sent back will be anything great, or anything bad, so I can’t really complain about it.

The Second Trade that the Tampa Bay Barracuda made hit a bit closer to home. It was a trade made with the Edmonton Blizzard.

The Tampa Bay Barracuda Send –
Season 59 Los Angeles Panthers First Round Selection (Pick #10)
KnockedOut ByOvechkin

The Edmonton Blizzard Send –
Season 59 Edmonton Blizzard First Round Selection (Pick #13)
Season 62/63 Edmonton Blizzard First Round Selection (Whichever Draft is a Reddit Draft)

This Trade hits a bit closer to home, because of KnockedOut ByOvechkin was another Season 56 Player like myself. KnockedOut ByOvechkin is going to help the Edmonton Blizzard a lot, especially since he is most likely to be called up into their aging core and can be an instant performer for a still stacked team. Look for KnockedOut ByOvechkin to be in talks already for a potential rookie of the year season. It’s going to be a rough pill to swallow for The Tampa Bay Barracuda to swallow, losing a player that can be in the top 10 of the Season 56 Draft Class, but the Barracuda were able to select Ethan Bouchard with the pick, which can be a great help for the Defense in years to come. This trade, in my eyes, is also a push like the one with the Calgary Dragons, because those future picks can go either which way.

Tampa Bay has been able to fill all their “needs” this draft, to already address for the future. With the additions of all four of these guys, you must think to yourself, is Tampa Bay making a push into the 60s to be one of the teams to beat, and quite honestly it looks that way. Tampa Bay will continue to strive for greatness and continue to make moves to try and get out of this playoff slump they have been in the last few seasons. Let’s just see what goes on in these next few weeks, with Free Agency happening and whatever other last-minute trades that could impact the start of the season.

Until then, Let’s Go Barracuda.
