S59 SMJHL PT #2 - Tactical meeting
#31

The Anaheim Outlaws drafted Daniel Merica Jr with one tactic in mind: goal scoring. With an almost 100% offensive build, it’s no secret what tactic they are going to employ with Daniel Merica. Merica is currently slotted in on the 4th line with some power play action, with the promise to move up once he becomes a bit less of a liability on the defensive end.

As for the team in general, the Outlaws are a defensive minded team, we would rather win 2-1 instead of 8-7,- and this is evident in how they’ve played so far, bludgeoning teams on the boards, rumor has it the team is considering a new name, the Anaheim Widowmakers, because of how violent they attack their opponents and the rate they send them to the hospital.

Back to Daniel Merica Jr, he’s pretty useless this season, struggling to find his offense, but the coaches are confident he will progress if he commits to playing some defense.

Well as you have all probably heard by now Duncan The Walrus is going to be known for his defensive ability over all else. Sure he is going to get some points here and there but, in all actuality he is going to look like a second goalie out there and that is exactly how the Maine Timbers plan on using him. I am sure everyone is wondering how exactly the Timbers plan on using the gigantic Walrus in game. So let me try to explain it to you. Have you heard the term park the bus? An old defensive tactic in soccer that requires the defense to just play back and make it impossible for the offense to score a goal. Well yeah that is pretty much it, Duncan's size and speed means he does everything that 2 defenders would normally do just by himself. This means that Maine is going to be able to utilize more offensive weapons on Duncan's line. I highly expect a lot of teams to star recruiting Walrus's after Duncan shows what he can do! Being in team meetings and practicing, Zhen Roza has been adapting the SMJHL lifestyle and trying to learn as much as he can from the veteran Vincent Mietitore. In practices, you can see him trying to work on his movements and the goalie coaches drilling everything and anything they can into his head. His eyes are either on the puck or Mietitore and what he does to save the puck. "I've doing drills that I have never seen in my life with prior teams. But I watch Vinny and he has such crisp movements that I'm in awe. In the end, I just want to soak everything in before they let me out". Zhen Roza has been chilling as Vincent Metitore has been on fire so far with a save percentage of .944. "Obviously you want to play but when a guy is as hot as Vinny you kind of just let keep rolling".

One of the strongest parts of my game is that I can fit in pretty much anywhere at anytime. Yes my player is more offense minded and likes to stick his nose right in front of the goalkeeper and create chaos in front of the net, but he has the athletic ability on the ice to help out just about anywhere. Overall I want to be on a line that pressures the opposing team, I want to be surrounded by some fast skaters and I want to have some defensive snipers that will throw something on net that I can get a piece on and create some goals. The more solid the defensive line is behind me then the more freedom I have as a skater to get forward and that will hopefully lead to more goals for the team. I want to be right in the middle of the action for my team and I want to set up goals for my big guys at the back launching the puck at the net.

Fraçois Gangé's role for the Quebec City Citadelles is to be the best 4th line centre in the league. It is not all too hard of a task, after all to be the best 4th line centre in the league mostly all you have to do is have functioning lungs and the ability to outskate a 4 year old, so in all intents and purposes I may already be the best 4th line centre in the league. My job is mostly to make sure that we don't lose too much while I'm in so the actual hockey players can win it all for me. When we win the cup again this season I will be the one patting the back of the guy holding the player who is holding the cup. All in all I think I will be a great 4th line centre, and that my potential to be as such is limitless. Be ready to see me win 0 first stars 0 second stars and 1(!!!!) third star.

Quote:Written option: What kind of tactics is your line going to deploy? How does your player fit into these tactics? Can be 5-on-5 tactics, special teams, defensive tactics, offensive tactics, surprise us. Must include 150 words.

I am going to write about Monsieur Pingy Pingu Lunga Gumba Esq's line on the Detroit Falcons. Monsieur Pingy Pingu is still a rookie, and because he is just starting out in the smjhl his role on the Detroit Falcons is more of a support one. Monsieur Pingy will be starting off as a perimeter shooter, to get his shooting ability improved and so he doesn't have to take the puck up to the net just yet. Pingy is a good skater so even if he gets paired with weaker wingers he should be able to help out the defense if the shift is defensive-heavy. Once things get going and Monsieur Pingy Pingu starts to show off his skills, he will be put on PP1 and start leading the SMJHL in goals. Pingy will be starting off at the bottom lines, but as Drake says, He will be a powerful centre in no time at all. Pingy out.

"Bring back Pingy Pingu Lunga Gumba esq. And I mean bring him all the way back. I want every thread on this forum that involves even a modicum of salt to get razed to the ground by our most notorious shitposting penguin. I want every thunderdome to drown in ABAGABA spam and a signature that doesn't end. I want the userbase of this fine league to cower in terror, slinking about the forums and making as little noise as possible for fear of attracting the Shitpost Slenderman. When some poor immigrant from the NFL sim blunders into the forum and makes an angry post about how his player slipped to the early second round despite having done ALL the rookie tasks(!), let the veteran survivalists stare in horror and pity while the newbie rages. They will know it is only a matter of time before @Pingy Pingu descends upon his post like a ravening wolf and obliterates his tread, reducing it to a radioactive waste-dump of unintelligible spam. They will not interfere, for Pingy is our immune system. Because he can take it. Our Dark Knight of Shitposting"

After settling in with his new Detroit teammates, Zak Wilson learned that he was going to be on a combination of the 3rd and 4th line for the season. So, he figured out that he would have around 16 minutes and 2 seconds of ice time in the games, so he got to work with coaches to correctly utilize this crucial time on the ice. After meeting with the coaches, we decided on a very pass heavy offensive approach to the game. This has been very effective for Detroit so far in the season, as Wilson has racked up 7 Assists and 8 points through 14 games, not too terrible for a rookie defenseman. On the defensive side of the ball, Detroit has decided to go with a very physical style of play, mainly focusing on hitting the other team, and wearing down their stamina very early in the game. Wilson has racked up 13 hits and 5 blocks, so this seems to be working for the surging Falcons team.

Wet Jeans is currently on Nevada's second line with Rob Wright and fellow rookie Jimmy Larkin-Conway. His listed archetype is "garbage collector" but I see Wet Jeans as way more than that. He is the prototypical example of an all around balanced young hockey player in the SMJHL. He can shoot, he can pass, and he can play defense. Due to the fact that he is so well rounded, he doesn't really have one specific strength that will make him an all star player at the moment; he still has a lot of trining to do.

So the fact that he got paired up with a nice scorer in Larkin Conway and a good playmaker in Rob Wright helps his chances of having a decent rookie season. It has been a tough start to the season for Nevada so far but there are still plenty of games left and this young line is going to be solid in the future.

The St. Louis Scarecrows picked up seven great rookies in the S59 draft, probably the seven best players of the class some unnamed sources are saying. As such, we have lots of options to build towards making the Scarecrows one of the most flexible teams in the league. Jeffrey MacCabe stands as a vital cog in the composition of the team, he provides a physical presence on the ice every shift he's in. Standing at a whopping six feet and eleven inches, two hundred and sixty five pounds the centre is not afraid to throw his body around and stand up for his teammates. A strong faceoff man, he also acts as a defensive anchor for his line. With strong defensive play, it is a possibility that he lands himself in a permanent role on the penalty kill. Honing his offensive passing and vision, it's only a matter of time that the points start to build up.

The season opened with LaTrell McDonald on the 3rd line as the LW, LaTrell hoped to play to his strengths as a goal scorer and a week into the season he has done just that, potting 7 goals in the team’s first 13 games with a couple multi goal games sprinkled in. The chemistry on LaTrell’s line is certainly there and getting stronger with every shift. The focus for the rest of the way seems to be to get him the puck and he’ll put it in the back of the net as he is boasting an impressive 24.1% shooting percentage which is good for 6th in the SMJHL. The line also has had a great start to the season in terms of preventing the other team from scoring as LaTrell leads the team with a +10 on the year followed by his line mates Alimony Tony and David S. Pumpkins each with a +9. They look to keep this strategy rolling throughout the rest of the season. (168)

The Anchorage Armada hae been using Mikhail Novikov as a power play specialist, playing on the second unit while also playing on the forth line minutes as he devlops and gets used to the North American ice. Even though he is playing on the 4th line, the SMJHL is an extremely skilled league so Novikov still gets an opportunity to devlop his playmaking. He is currently sitting with 3 special teams assist, showing that the Armada has faith in him developing as a player that can become extremely important for them down the line.

Novikov has been put on a line with Alf Magnusson and Benjamin Jansson, a good line combination in order to best play in the SMJHL. With a playmaker, a sniper and someone to go deep and grind out pucks, it's not hard to say that Anchorage's 4th line might be one of the most skilled in the league.

The Kelowna Knights - with their current roster of seasoned players - are a powerhouse team looking to win now. Because of that, Satoru Gojō usually finds himself during even-strength minutes on the 4th offensive line for the team alongside fellow Japanese star Kou Saotome and the Italian winger Anna Pontecorvo. This does not mean Kelowna have little use for the players on this line - in fact, Kelowna's management team diversify ice-time a lot depending on opponent to improve the team's chances of winning depending on key matchups against the opposition. The 4th line of the Knights is used primarily as an offensive force to pressure the lower lines of other teams into making mistakes that can lead to great counterattacking opportunities. While they aren't generally asked to fulfil massive defensive duties during their time on-the-ice in any situation, the trio still find success in their defensive efforts largely due to the high tempo that they have been tasked to play with, alongside their strong forechecking style of pressure when they lose the puck. Of further interest is their breakout strategy in cases where they win the puck back in their own zone; given the experience gap of the wingers over their rookie centre, the 4th line usually brings the puck out along the boards, with the aim of taking pressure away from Gojō while assuring giveaways are reduce across the board. These tactics appear to be working so far, with Saotome leading the league in goals and Gojō 2 assists away from the league lead with 9.

Rolling into the s59 SMJHL season I look forward to finding a grove and a game plan with my linemates. Knowing that it is my rookie year and since I personally will be down the depth chart I know personally I want to aim more towards a defensive role and have our line improve on our defensive game. I know that for myself personally, I want to use my big body presence to clear out the net front while also being a key shot blocker for is. When our line does get the chance to strike on offense I believe out best bet will be to exploit the defense with the young explosive speed of our wingers while I use my size to drive the net. I feel overall that we have the ability to help our team win games by helping to shut down the other teams offensive units while also being able to put a few goals in ourselves through out the season.

I'm not a very smart man. I like to watch tv and eat totinos pizza rolls. Sometimes I scratch my belly, sometimes I lose my wallet. When it comes to all them fancy line changes I don't know anything. I have the utmost faith in my boy Flex aka Flygon aka coGM of Quebec Owls. I am confident that whatever issues we may faith, he'll be able to shape us up. Currently we're really struggling on the defensive end. We also are a very slow to start team. Oftentimes you'll see us have 5 SOG compared to the opponent's 15 SOG at the end of the first period. It's kindof a trend actually. Fortunately, we're on a 3 game winning streak so that's good! In terms of tactics, I dunno how well your PT works for a backup goalie lmfao. I kinda just cheer on my team on the bench then drunkenly stumble my way into every 3rd game. Not exactly tactical genius to employ me.
