Good afternoon Star Gang, and welcome to the first edition of Star-Light for season fifty-nine of the Simulation Hockey League. Last season the Toronto North Stars saw their dreams of winning the cup come up just short of playing in the finals. That heartbreak led into a wonderful draft that was immediately ruined by off season drama that saw the league put its foot in its mouth and dole out punishments with all the grace of a drunken sailor. Still, the North Stars persevere and face two opponents who wish to start the season off with a bang!
The Hamilton Steelhawks, fierce competitors of the Great Lakes blood bath and current champions, are the first game of the season. They will host our beloved boys in blue before our shining Stars host the Tampa Bay Barracuda. The First game of the season proved to be a goalie duel as eighty shots were fired between the two teams, and only one goal--scored by Mika Kandinsky and assisted by Ursin Zimmermann--scored. What a fantastic way for the North Stars to start the season. Every point against our Great Lakes rivals is important, so it is unfortunate we had to win this one in overtime, but two points is two points. The North Stars continued their winnings ways with two to four victory over the Barracuda, whose goaltender stood on their head to give their team a shot as they faced fifty-one shots in that game. Respect to a competitor, you love to see it. Luffy Richard ended the day a plus-one, but without much else to show for it besides a few shots, and a takeaway. The young defenseman worked hard in the off season to tighten up his game, and it does seam that his defensive game and physical fitness has improved--a trend we hope to see continue as the season progresses. This was a short and sweet Star-Light, but I hope you enjoyed: until next time, Shine on! (336 words)
