Mikhail Novikov is a right-handed centerman born in Moscow, Russia. He is 6’0 and 202 pounds. He is one of the bigger guys on the ice and is known for his offensive gameplay including his accurate passing.  Novikov is known for his high-caliber play-making skills and he has had no problem coming over from Russia and transitioning into the SMJHL. He was drafted to the Anchorage Armadas 20th overall in the S59 SMJHL draft. We are going to take a look into Novikovs strengths, weaknesses, pre-seasons games, and his first 10 regular-season games.

Novikov's Strengths
Stamina - One of his greatest strengths is his stamina, he can stay on the ice for long periods of time and able to remain consistent throughout the game. This will allow him to produce more offensive chances for his team and something that is appealing to a coach.
Faceoffs - This is no surprise considering the position that Novikov plays. He was one of the top prospects entering the league with the highest faceoff percentage. You can find him working on his face-offs every single day, he is hoping to someday be one of the best in the SMJHL and eventually the SHL.
Offensive Read - Another one of his strengths is his ability to read a play. He can get in the right position and be one step ahead of the play which is very dangerous for the opposing teams. This is very useful with his accurate and strong passing.

Novikov's Weaknesses
Fighting - One of Novikov's weaknesses is his fighting, he is one of the bigger players on the ice but you will never see this guy drop the mitts. He has never been a physical player, as he has always been working on his offensive game.
Hitting - As a playmaker, you will rarely see Novikov leading the team in hits, he is never the first or second person to enter the corner or finish a check because he is usually trying to get open or find an open player. Again this is something that Novikov can grow into as he continues to develop in the league.
Shooting Accuracy - Surprisingly Novikovs shooting accuracy is one of his weaknesses. He can get shots on the net but not always on target. This is something he will need to work on if he wants to be one of the best centers in the SMJHL.

Preseason Stats
The Anchorage Armandas finished the preseason with 5 wins and 2 losses finishing in 4th place in the SMJHL. Novikov tied for most points on his team posting 2 goals and 3 assists. He averaged about 16:34 minutes on the ice and made himself well known around the league for rookies. I expect we will see this guy's name on the score sheet for seasons to come.

Regular Season Stats
So far in the S59 regular season, the Anchorage Armadas are 10 games into the season posting 7 wins, 3 losses, and currently 3rd place in the entire league. Novikov has started a little slower posting 3  assists and averaging about 11:19. This player has tremendous potential and if he continues to train and gets his offensive game stronger he will be one of the top rookies.
