WJC Announcement
#1

Hello SHL Community,

WJC GM job postings will go live later this afternoon. I’d like to thank Wulf, Dwayne, and Roastpuff for their hard work as we evaluated changes for this season’s tournament.

We’ve made a few adjustments to the rulebook for this tournament. The changes are italicized within the rulebook which can be found HERE.

WJC HO has created a new Player Eligibility Spreadsheet for this tournament. This new sheet reduces a lot of the clutter and the maintenance associated with the sheet's upkeep. This new sheet will be provided to the GMs upon their hiring to maximize their time to analyze and create their rosters with up-to-date information on player activity status. This will reduce roster eligibility confusion.

In addition to the sheet changes, WJC has announced that the Team Canada and Team USA split-squad formats have been abolished to enable them to assemble competitive, active rosters. To fill the void left by the departure of those teams, we will be creating the following teams:

Team Young Guns: Composed of WJC eligible unselected players from the two most recent draft classes. Their roster submission will be due two days after other WJC rosters are due. This team is an attempt to further engage the newer users and give them a taste of international play when they otherwise would be sitting idle.

Team North America: Composed of WJC eligible unselected players from Canada and USA.  Their roster submission will be due two days after other WJC rosters are due. This team is a hybrid of the previous USA/CAN split-squad goal and will allow us to leverage those Federations’ larger player pool.

We are excited about these changes, and can’t wait to get the tournament started.

Kind regards,

WJC HO

How will the creation of these two new teams impact the teams that have had to borrow players from other nations, most of whom were younger players who hadn't made the cut for their original team?

This was considered when forming these two new teams. The issue was that once each team had finalized their rosters there were always active players left out without a team, so they could not participate in the WJC which honestly sucks.

The idea here is for each original WJC team to pick/final their rosters, and once that has be done there will naturally be left over active players. Team NA will take the Canada/USA remaining actives. Team Young Guns will take S61/S60 remaining players to field their rosters.

Rest assured the goal is for each team to round out their roster with active players in the fairest way possible, without having players sitting on the sidelines looking in.

Thanks! That brings another question : which of the two new teams gets NA players from the S60 and S61 classes? Is there a kind of draft, or is it like first come first serve? Or maybe the player has a say in it?

Since this is a new concept we will be trialing it this season and see how it works, just as how we ran a trial with Canada/USA split squads and realized it wasn't the best solution to the problem we faced.

Ideally, Young Guns will have access to all the S61 creates by the cut off deadline for the WJC, however this will have to be discussed and determined once the activity of each eligible player is verified prior to the hiring of GMs. Once we have a better picture of what each nations active player numbers look like, it will be more clear.

This WJC is essentially the start of something great, and we are going to be testing different proposed plans to improve both GM and user experience this time around, so throughout the process feedback is appreciated.

So I know I somewhat avoided your questions there so to answer it, ideally Team NA would take the place of the USA/CANADA split squad. They would avoid drafting S60s/S61, (again this will be discussed depending on roster numbers and size.)

Once "Interim Rosters" have been made final, "Each player belonging to your nation" the floor then will open up to picking up any extra active players that remain teamless. This process has also improved and been made easier for user experience.

Again we will be testing this all out this WJC and tweaking it for future tournaments as this is just the first of many.

Essentially that was the idea, just that a team world already exists, so Young Guns it is!
