Star-Light: S59 Simulation Day 20
#1

Good day, Star Gang! Are you ready to rumble? Are you ready to compete for third place in the worst division in this league? Are you ready to give the rest of this scrub league a show not seen since the gladiatorial games where men got to slaughter each other for the enjoyment of others? Because that is what we are here for! That is right, on this--the twentieth day of simulating hockey of the fifty-ninth season--the North Stars shall be battling to overcome the Buffalo Stampede who sit two points above them in the Great Blood Bath Division. And if you look at the league standings, you will see our beloved boys in blue are three points ahead of the Texas Renegades and Calgary Dragons who are tops in the West--the glorious west that is not wild, but tame because they don't have the Great Lakes beating down on them for most of the season--although kudos to the Monarchs who beat us in the season series this year without much trouble. Like...ouch.

Anyways, let us get down to the details of today's sim! We have three games on the slate for today's sim: Calgary comes into Toronto so two great Canadian cities can destroy each other until only the strongest remain! Then Toronto takes their hopes and dreams of gaining third place by visiting the Buffalo Stampede. A victory here is a statement that the North Stars need to make. The final stop will be in Edmonton who sit in third in the West. A solid team, the North Stars will have to keep their foot on the gas.

The Calgary Dragons fought a tough first period before the North Stars got rolling and never paused, defeating one of the top teams in the West six to two. Shots were forty-four to thirty-six in favor of the North Stars, and for once the North Stars had the lead in hits seventeen to fifteen. The dragons also took four minor penalties, while the North Stars Managed to stay out of the box, so good job on being good boys. Luffy Richard had his eighth assist of the season on Delver Fudgeson's sixth goal of the season. My roommate also had two blocked shots to help his goaltender out. What a giving guy, that Luffy Richard.

The big middle game is a big letdown like every middle child that was bullied by their older brother but had to take care of their younger sibling. This one hurts folks: the North Stars fall to the Buffalo Stampede four to one. Shots were in favor of the Stampede thirty-nine to twenty-six, and the karma from last game has brought us into balance as we put the Stampede on the powerplay four times (though all goals were even strength). Hits were dominated by the Stampede as they ran over the North Stars twenty-five to nine. Luffy Richard was an even plus-minus, much to the surprise of this reporter, and he had a missed shot as well as a takeaway but was otherwise preoccupied dodging Buffalos. The North Stars needed this victory and will be kicking themselves all the way to Edmonton.

This will be the North Stars first game against Scoochie, their former goaltender who the North Stars were forced to trade because Head Office lost the marble they all shared (allegedly) and they make sure to be kind guests by handing the Scooch a two to one loss for his first star efforts. Toronto outshot the Blizzard forty-five to thirty-seven but were outhit fourteen to twenty-three. Luffy Richard scored his seventh goal of the season and finished a plus-one. Good job, roommate, two points in one sim!

So four out of six points, but an important game dropped to Buffalo, and only fifteen games remaining for us. The Stampede are two points ahead of the North Stars and two games in hand, so the margin of error is getting thin. This season might come down to the wire, but someone each season must suffer the curse of the Great Lakes. Let us cheer on our boys and give them all the energy we can muster so we can give our boys a fighting chance!

Until next time,

Shine On!
