Texas Winger Josef Kubinec made a brief announcement Saturday evening after the game against Minnesota.
“I’m going to keep this brief. I’ve never been big on ceremony or any of that. I said a while back that I wouldn’t stick around long after my performance started dropping. Based on some events at the start of my career, I knew longevity wasn’t in the cards for me. When I signed my last contract, I made it clear with management that Season 60 would be my last.”
“With the expansion draft on the horizon, I wanted to make my intentions clear to everyone. I doubt I will be protected with so much young talent on the team, nor should I be. Texas still has a bright future and it’s time for me to step aside. This isn’t to deter expansion GMs from taking me, just know that I’m only playing for one more full season and then it’s over.”
“My plan won’t change. If Texas manages to win the Cup this season and next, I’ll still be done. If I score 100 goals next season, it will still be my last. I just wanted to make my intentions known up front. Texas has been a fantastic organization and it has been a pleasure to watch this team change over the past ten seasons. These next games could very well be my last as a Renegade and I hope we go out with a bang.”

Yea I’m closing in on Top 5 all time for Texas. Doubt I’ll get there. S61 is certainly my last. My activity has waned on Kubinec. Not fighting regression much anymore.
But this is fair. It wasn’t to avoid the expansion draft though it probably looks that way. I probably would have played another season with a new team anyway to see how the new scale worked out.
And at least I didn’t post it in the retirement thread!
