(GRADED) Deep Dive #1 - Maine is gearing up
#1

For my first deep dive, and considering that my knowledge is very much nonexistent about strengths and weaknesses of each team, i have decided to do this about my own team, the Maine Timber. And looking at their stats, results and roster this season, it is very apparent that they are in rebuilding mode, gearing up for something good in the next couple of seasons. But rebuilding is something that the Timber are not strangers to. If we look back into the past few seasons, since season 52 the best regular season result they had was 3rd place in Season 57, with a 37 / 24 / 5 record, behind the Anchorage Armada and the Quebec City Citadelles. And even at that point, they were thrown out of the playoffs in the first round by 12th placed Newfoundland Berserkers.
But looking at the end result, season 55 was clearly the best one they had. After a 6th place finish in the regular season, far away from the top 3, they managed to beat the odds and reach the finals, where they unfortunately lost against the Berserkers.
Looking at all these stats it pretty much tells me that the Timbers are a team that normally finishes near the middle or bottom of the table in the regular season and then tries to create havoc on the playoffs, being the underdog that manages to beat a few perennial playoff teams.
And this is something i think it is well known, it is not a secret at all, so you will not be hearing team members saying they want a ring or anything. Everyone is dead set on growing their players, so that we can think about being contenders in a couple of seasons. And why? A quick look at their roster page tells us why: 11 of their players are from season 61, 6 from season 60, 4 from season 59 and 3 players from S58. This just shows how young the Maine Timber roster is, so if everyone keeps updating as they are now, the team will, barring any strange setback, be a contender soon(ish). Even though they will lose their current best players, the next youth prospects will definitely step up to help the team fortify their record. We might see them finishing between 10th and 12th place, but who knows, during the playoffs they might make a splash.
Looking at only the season 61 players, with the amount of playing time they can have every game, a few are already making some noise in the league. Ida mae Mann has 8 points in 14 games, Jay Cue has 5 points in only 8 games, just to name a couple that have been more active during the games, with goals and assists, which shows how well they are doing with not a lot of TPE applied yet.
All in all, the future is bright in Maine, so do not be surprised in a few seasons when you see them at the top of the standings. But getting the #1 seed is just a part of the process, because in the end what really matters is the Four Star Cup.
