Tonight the New Orleans Specters will take on their old cup finals rivals in the Buffalo Stampede. These two teams have had some epic Challenge Cup finals, with Buffalo winning both in Game 7, one in OT. Nowadays, Buffalo sees themselves on the top of the SHL world still, while New Orleans has fallen to the basement as they’re in the thick of their rebuild.

But before the game, New Orleans will once again add a player into the inaugural class of the brand new Haunted Hall of Fame!

The 5th entrant of the “6 for S60” class is a bit different than the others. You see, this player only played a grand total of 5 seasons for the Specters, from S46-S50. In those seasons, they would score 107 goals, and added 155 assists for 262 points. But that short amount of time played for us was more than enough time for a big impact on the team.

You see, Oisin Fletcher was coming off a Challenge Cup victory the season before New Orleans began operations in the SHL. The former MVP bought into what they saw the Specters were building and wanted to be a part of it. Fletcher signing here did as much for us off the ice and it did on it. It showed the free agents of the SHL that New Orleans was the place to be. Fletcher’s mere presence on the roster brought in many great players, most notably Piotr Czerkawski.

Fletcher helped create a fantastic locker room atmosphere in the early days of the team as well, and really helped develop that “family” feeling the team had as we chased the Challenge Cup from the get go. Fletcher was named the first ever Captain of the New Orleans Specters, and held that post until they decided to retire and pursue other interests.

A team first, self-less player, Fletcher even switched to play defense in the final season of his career in order to help the team as best as possible. The example set by our Captain really set the tone for the team in the first few years, and if not for that attitude, I’m not sure where we would’ve ended up.

So please join us as we induct our first ever Captain, and all around great person Oisin Fletcher into the Haunted Hall of Fame!
