Oskar Von Walther was born on the first of November, two thousand and three. He is the only son of Andreas and Tanja Von Walther (Née König.). His father Andreas was an automotive engineer while his mother Tanja was a professional tennis coach having been on the German Women's national team for a number of years. Oskar first learned to skate at four years old and began to play organized junior hockey shortly after his sixth birthday. Von Walther first gained international attention when he skipped the Jugend-Bundesliga to join the Deutsche Nachwuchsliga at sixteen years old. He put up seventeen goals and nine assists for twenty-six points in his first thirty-five game season playing for Düsseldorfer EG, taking home the DEL Rookie of the Year award. He won DEL player of the year the next season after he put up forty-five points with twenty-six goals and nineteen assists. At only seventeen years old, He is the youngest player to win DEL player of the year in league history.
In terms of international play, He helped lead the German U 18 team to a bronze medal at the 2020 World Junior Championship with three goals and no assist in four games.
From a playstyle perspective, he's an offense heavy goal scorer with a nose for the net who likes to plant himself in front of the crease. He's adequate defensively though he'll have to develop a much tighter defensive game as he climbs his way to the SHL. He's a strong physical skater that's hard to knock off the puck due to his impressive balance. Von Walther's greatest weakness is his poor passing ability which he'll definitely have to improve at some point to become more of a complete offensive threat.
