Review of S54 Draft Class + power rankings!
#1

Few seasons ago (I think two seasons ago) I made a review of S54 Draft Class. Things have changed now and some of these players now are climbing up to hit 2000 TPE mark. A lot of stuff have changed - teams, some players have even retired. Only six seasons in, but I wanted to take a look back again. I would do other Draft Classes too, but let's be honest... I'm here so rarely that I don't even know 90% of other Draft Classes, haha.

You can search up first preview of this Draft Class I made few seasons ago if you want to, but I will keep pretty similar design as last time. Will add some interesting sheets and leaderboards for me and some other users who love to see the race between players in different sheets. This review will have power rankings for players in this Draft Class too, so there's some interesting race between them. I won't include retired players in these rankings, because it's kinda useless, I think!

Before we start, all I can say is that there are few upsets and few shocking changes. Besides that, let's finally jump in to it!

1st round 1st pick - Texas Renegades select Mikkel Asmus Sondergaard Renegades ( @Rabidsponge21 )
TPE: 1608
In previous Draft Class review he had 1283 TPE which made him being in fourth position between this Draft Class in TPE race. He is a defender from Denmark and it was pretty obvious back in S54 that he will be drafted with first overall pick. He was a leader for a long time in SMJHL TPE wise and I'm pretty sure that he didn't lose plenty of TPE. He was drafted by Texas Renegades and this is his fifth season playing for them. Loyal player for sure and I can only say that this pick was worth it for Renegades, am I right? I am pretty sure that they don't regret this pick. They're champions after all aswell. Couldn't be better, to be honest! He was a pretty reasonable choice back then and I think he lived up to his expectations. I'm really surprised about the fact that he had really good S58 and S59, but had (sorry to say it), but bad S60. Interesting to see player progressing everywhere and then suddenly falling in statistics. He got 26 points this season and was last points wise in his team (with Joseph Fantobens). Much worse plus/minus too. Maybe that's because of some changes in team which I am not informed about, but I hope to see him back stronger next season. Sondergaard might get traded though, because he officially mentioned in media that he will test waters of free agency this off-season. Small ouchie for Renegades! Do what's best for you, Mikkel!

Sondergaard is still playing a big role for this team. He had a downfall this season in points, but I'm pretty sure he will be back stronger. And I think that his priority is team's success and not only individual achievements, so it's all good. He is still progressing and that's the most important thing.

1st round 2nd pick - Toronto North Stars select Ryosuke Sato Stars ( @Dextaria )
TPE: 1669
In the previous Draft Class review, Ryosuke had 1341 TPE and was second in leaderboard between this Draft Class in TPE. Now he is still dominating and still playing for Toronto North Stars. He started to play in SHL one season after Sondergaard which was selected by first overall pick in this draft, but he is still trying to prove that he is the best player in this Draft Class. This player is a defender who comes from Japan. Played for Vancouver Whalers in SMJHL and already few seasons are GM for this team. Good pick by Toronto and we can see that this pick has paid off for sure. Ryosuke is still struggling with getting to good Play-Offs run. Yes, he had great Play-Offs in S58, but he has made Play-Offs only one time with North Stars since then and it's this season. And they will have first round against Hamilton Steelhawks. Ouch! This will be one interesting series for sure. S60 was Ryosuke's breakout season individually though and we can clearly see it in his statistics.

If first three seasons Ryosuke was playing somewhat decent hockey points wise, then S60 he finally performed well. Most points in one season this far and now is fighting for trophy again. The best thing is that he will keep progressing aswell. Incredible amount of TPE too. Might fight for being the first player of this Draft Class who hits 2000 TPE mark.

1st round 3rd pick - New England Wolfpack select Matthew Sawful Wolfpack
TPE: 651 (player has retired)
We talked about this previous time, but I'll talk about it again to piss off some people. First bust from this Draft Class and I already called it back then. I got crucified back then though, because he played for Anchorage Armada. When I questioned why they picked so high player who is first generation and completely new user, all I got told that he will be the next big player. Anchorage will help him to be a user who does a lot of stuff in forum too. However, he is a bust and retired with 651 TPE few seasons ago. Never touched SHL ice. However, no bad energy from my side anymore. Just reminding that I called it. This pick may have hurt Wolfpack for a long time. Maybe they would've been at the top af this moment if this pick wouldn't had turned out this badly. Ouch!

1st round 4th pick - Tampa Bay Barracuda select Dwight Knight Barracuda ( @hockeyiscool )
TPE: 1689
Okay! I'm really interested to see what's going on there, because Barracuda was one of the teams I wanted to end up back in S54. Now times have changed and I am good with the place where I'm at, but still interested to see how he has improved, because he was leader TPE wise between S54 Draft Class in my previous review. He had 1358 TPE back then. Left wing forward who doesn't have specific birthplace. he has came a long way. He played for Carolina Kraken in SMJHL. Later got drafted by Tampa Bay Barracuda which was multiple seasons fighting for not being the last position in the entire league. Now they're back stronger than ever ad Dwight Knight is helping them a lot - as a player and as their GM. I think that we will have to look at this player only after few seasons, because he had four (I guess) decent seasons and now he had a big glow up - 56 points, finally a positive plus/minus and he is definitely doing his thing. Will improve a lot! Already leader in TPE in this whole Draft Class. Impressive!

This player is a GM for Barracuda, so he will probably play his entire career for this team. So, I'm really interested to see what will happen with his career - will he be one of the legends who end up with no Championship or will he surprise one season and end up with a title? That's the question in my opinion. Only one Play-Offs appearance this far though, but that's already better than 0-50 season Barracuda had couple of seasons ago, right?

1st round 5th pick - Buffalo Stampede select Emilia Bergman Stampede ( @Renomitsu )
TPE: 1619
Woooo! Buffalo gang, where you at? Happy to see my teammate doing that well. Last time she had 1254 TPE and were in seventh place TPE wise in this Draft Class. Still doing well - on and off ice. Defender from Sweden, played for Anaheim Outlaws in SMJHL and definitely lived up to expectations everybody had about her. I'm pretty sure that she might end up being one of the most successful players of this Draft Class. Doing well - just had a breakout season. Still progressing. Happy to see that. Let's with that trophy now!

1st round 6th pick - Calgary Dragons select Mats Marner Dragons ( @leafsftw1967 )
TPE: 1600
Last time we checked this player he had 1235 TPE and and he was a pretty reasonable choice by Dragons back then. How it all have changed? This player have made some trip around the league and now plays for his third team... Damn! To be fair - he still plays insane. He already had two 50 point seasons and is doing well. Just hit 1600 TPE mark aswell. This is something unbelievable and I think that no one really expected this before S54 Draft. Of course, Marner was good, but I don't think that anyone thought he will turn out so great that fast. Traded from Dragons to Pride and after contract ended, he signed a contract in S60 off-season with Chicago Syndicate. Hope he will find team which he can call a home faster.

Never missed Play-Offs and clearly wants to play for a winning team. Previous Play-Offs appearances weren't that good, but this one seems to be at least a bit different. Will this strategy pay off? He has a lot of stuff in his backpack. As I said - hopefully he will find a team which he can hall home for a long term. Seems like he has a different role in Syndicate's roster and it's hard to say will he enjoy it since he will have less points on this stacked roster. Best of the luck though!

1st round 7th pick - Chicago Syndicate select Vitek Vitecek syndicate
TPE: 689 (player is an inactive free agent)
One more bust. This player had a potential and everyone thought he will be a good player, but, unfortunately, he never touched SHL ice. He is an inactive player who is free agent with less than 700 TPE. Might be already auto-retired. Don't know. Not much to say about it. Dominated in SMJHL when played for Carolina Kraken, but that's pretty much it. Syndicate can fail sometimes too with their pick - they're just regular humans just as everyone.

1st round 8th pick - Chicago Syndicate select Rotticus Scott syndicate ( @RotticusScott )
TPE: 1631
Chicago Syndicate had back-to-back picks in S54 Draft and they made sure they don't miss twice in a row. However, this player never played for Syndicate and got traded to Hamilton Steelhawks where he added to his resume two Challenge Cups. Have to mention that he has a Four Star Cup too. He plays for one of the best teams in SHL and is doing insanely good! Had two 60 points seasons in a row - one point till 70 points season. Insane! He has found his place and don't think he will change his team anytime soon. W for Steelhawks!

ALL TOTAL | 308 GP | 91 G | 159 A | 250 P | +132 | 47 PIMS | 472 H
He was a leader in some stats in previous review and still is doing well. Previous time he had 1307 TPE and were leading in some statistics, but now is dominating this Draft Class this far. Levels! Steelhawks know how to use him properly and I think he will be one of them players who spend his whole career with one team. At least, I think he will play with them till the moment when they start to bad if that moment will come.

1st round 9th pick - Edmonton Blizzard select Daniel Laforest Blizzard ( @Snoopdogg )
TPE: 1446
Laforest had 1281 TPE in our previous review. However, he was pretty hyped name before S54 Draft and we all knew he will get selected somewhere in the middle of 1st round. And Blizzard was that team who picked him. Hard to see if he is doing incredibly good. However, he's definitely is not doing bad! There are some worries that he is gone in this league because he has been inactive recently. Of course, there's still a hope that he will come back, but it isn't that promising. Daniel Laforest is a center position forward from Canada who played for Kelowna Knights in SMJHL.

ALL TOTAL | 362 GP | 74 G | 165 A | 239 P | +48 | 130 PIMS | 633 H
In previous review I made it clear that Blizzard definitely is not regretting picking him. I still think they don't, but his future with this franchise is pretty questionable. He is inactive now and clearly far away from S54 Draft Classes TOP prospects TPE wise. He isn't doing bad - he can still play as a good role player being inactive, but his future is unknown. Blizzard might keep him, might trade him. He might come back, he might not come back. Hard to predict anything, because he's been inactive (haven't done any updates) for two full months now. Damn!

1st round 10th pick - New Orleans Specters select Bork Lazer Specters ( @Frick_Nasty )
TPE: 1596
Last time when we checked Bork Lazer, he had 1252 TPE. This player played for Anchorage Armada in SMJHL and he is a defender from USA. Steelhawks was definitely that one team who won S54 Draft, because they stole this player from Specters via trade. He got 2 Challenge Cups with Steelhawks, but after that he was unprotected in Expansion Draft where Philadelphia Forge selected him. This is, technically, his third team already. He is a decent role player who

Not playing extra good and not playing bad either. I'll be honest - we have players who have much better statistics, but it's not that important. Bork Lazer is a team player who has already 2 Challenge Cups. He is getting close to 1600 TPE and he is keeping up with S54 Draft Class. He hasn't peaked yet - his prime will be soon, so be ready for it!

1st round 11th pick - Baltimore Platoon select Pojo Biscuit Platoon ( @.bojo )
TPE: 1457
Pojo was obvious choice back then, because of experience he had before in this league. This American defender played for Anchorage Armada in SMJHL. Later got drafted by Platoon in SHL and after that got traded to Aurora. In previous review he had 1152 TPE. Pretty consistent player, because all four seasons he have played, he had 19 or 20 points. To be honest, it's not really good for 11th pick. Of course, it's harder for defenders to get points, but still.

Winnipeg Aurora has really old roster. It's Pojo's fourth season in SHL and he is already 7th oldest player on their team. He is second best defender TPE wise on this team, but he only gets around 20 points in a season. Ouch! I said it in previous review and I'll say it again - hopefully he will get his stats up, because even if you are a team player, it's still pretty low to get only 20 points for 11th overall pick.

1st round 12th pick - Baltimore Platoon select Patrick Shepherd Platoon ( @Cobbenstein )
TPE: 1293
Platoon had back to back picks in S54 Draft and made sure that they don't trade away Patrick Shepherd. However, they had to get rid of him when Philadelphia Forge came in this league, because they selected him in Expansion Draft. We could say that it was his career's turning point, because he just had his best season yet - 51 points. Back in previous review he was one of few players in this review who didn't even had 1000 TPE. He had only 981 TPE, but now he has showed that he can be a good role player for his team. Will he be a leader one day? Hard to say, but probably not. He is pretty far away from this Draft Class in TPE race, but he can be a franchise player, because he is still doing good.

Late first round pick and it was pretty big lottery with picking him - it's either good or bad. But as we see - this time it's in the middle. Statistics could be better and amount of TPE much more than he has. However, he still has a time to prove himself.

1st round 13th pick - Minnesota Chiefs select Jack Klompus Chiefs ( @Toast )
TPE: 1607
Jack Klompus had 1256 TPE back in previous review and he was pretty unlucky player, because he had 0 Play-Offs appearances in his first 3 SHL seasons. How tables have turned? To be honest - still nothing, but now he plays for a different team. I know how he feels - my previous player had pretty similar relationship with Play-Offs. Fifth season and still no Play-Offs. Damn! That should be exhausting. However, he just had a glow up season with 57 points and I think he will break his curse next season for sure.

ALL TOTAL | 334 GP | 52 G | 104 A | 156 P | -147 | 99 PIMS | 280 H
Interesting player. I think there's always that one unlucky player who has an insane plus/minus and never made Play-Offs. It looks like Klompus might be that player from this Draft Class. Best of the luck to him! Still a great player with a lot of stuff to show people! He has a large amount of TPE and he will definitely catch up them leaders in this Draft Class. Definitely a small steal from this draft!

1st round 14th pick - Texas Renegades select Taitso Jutila Renegades
TPE: 366 (player has retired)
Nothing much to say here. Taitso Jutila were already retired back in my previous review. If Renegades did well with their first pick, this one definitely was a bust. Of course, Renegades are now Champions of S59 and they are doing pretty solid, but this pick might have changed something. However - this player is out of the image already for some time. Not much to say here.

1st round 15th pick - Los Angeles Panthers select Linus Grimstad Panthers
TPE: 626 (player has retired)
In previous review this player was inactive free agent with 626 TPE. He had very bright future back in SMJHL, but he turned out as a bust. He was late first round pick, so no one expected anything big, but I guess being retired in couple of seasons isn't what someone expected either. Panthers failed with this pick for sure. However, this player played one full season in S57, but I won't include him in this Draft Class power rankings, because there are no need for that. He is inactive free agent and in my eyes - he is retired. Small chances that he will come back or some team will bring him back in the league.

1st round 16th pick - Hamilton Steelhawks select Simon Takshak Steelhawks ( @GeckoeyGecko )
TPE: 907
Good old Gecko and his player Simon Takshak. He was pretty hyped up name in the draft, but at the same time no one knew what will happen. He had a chance to be 1st overall pick and last overall pick at the same time. This Indonesian forward played for Kelowna Knights in SMJHL and now is playing for his third team in SHL. He wasn't consistent with training and that changed a lot with his career. He has gained only around 50 TPE in last two seasons and now is kinda inactive. Sad to see that. However, he still plays a big role for expansion team Montreal Patriotes which selected him in Expansion Drat. Hope he will come back one day.

ALL TOTAL | 279 GP | 52 G | 50 A | 102 P | -106 | 75 PIMS | 425 H
Pretty reasonable pick back then, but now it's sad to see him inactive. I don't know... Just feels weird to see people from my Draft Class retiring or going inactive. Could've been one of the best players in the whole league by now already if he lived up to his potential.

S55 DRAFT - 6th round 14th pick (94th overall) - Buffalo Stampede select Aumy Jr. Stampede ( @st4rface )
TPE: 1572
Yes, I will add my player in this list once again, because, techincally, my player is from this Draft Class. Back in my previous review I had 1246 TPE. I lost some TPE because of my SMJHL suspension back then. I lost some TPE because of how weird worked SHL rules aswell. Plus, I had a break from internet and lost some few TPE too. However, my player is still doing decent and I'm happy that this is already my fourth season playing for Buffalo Stampede. Still grateul that they gave me a chance by drafting me and even protected me before Expansion Draft. Ready to win a Challenge Cup with them and spend my whole career here if they won't get bored or annoyed of me, haha. Won't say anything specific, because it's my player and I wouldn't be objective, probably. However, I wanted to add him to see how he looks between other players in this Draft Class.

POWER RANKINGS
1. Rotticus Scott - Steelhawks - (21 points)
(+2 spots by last review, +7 spots from draft time)
Rotticus Scott is pretty obvious leader in this race. Second place have almost twice as more points in this power rankings as him. All eyes on this player, because he has proved this far that he is the best player in this whole Draft Class this far.
2. Daniel Laforest - Blizzard - (38 points)
(+3 spots by last review, +7 spots from draft time)
Daniel Laforest have been consistent his whole career and now he is at the top of this Draft Class. Definitely deserved and happy to see him do well!
3. Emilia Bergman - Stampede - (41 points)
(+4 spots by last review, +2 spots from draft time)
Things are getting a bit closer now. If first place in this power rankings were leading huge then now it's pretty close. Emilia Bergman has the same amount points as Aumy Jr., but she have more TPE which means she is higher in this TOP.
4. Aumy Jr. - Stampede - (41 points)
(+5 spots by last review, +90 spots from draft time, lol)
I'm happy to see my player getting higher in power rankings. I went from one of the most scandalous players who was undrafted in first draft and then drafted by 6th round pick in the next one to a pretty good role player. Happy to see that!
5. Mikkel Asmus Sondergaard - Renegades - (45 points)
(-1 spots by last review, -4 spots from draft time)
Sondergaard is a champion, because Renegades won last season, but I don't really think he will still play for this team next season. They just don't know how to properly use him. However, it's pretty disappointing to see again this player drop in power rankings. Best of the luck in the future.
6. Dwight Knight - Barracuda - (49 points)
(-5 spots by last review, -2 spots from draft time)
As we see, even if Dwight Knight plays phenomenal hockey, there's still better players in this Draft Class. This Draft Class is good and as we see, Knight has fell down a bit. Not the first player in this Draft Class, but still a bit disappointing, right?
7. Mats Marner - syndicate - (51 points)
(+3 spots by last review, +7 spots from draft time)
Mats Marner plays solid hockey and it shows up right here. Getting better each season and still growing!
8. Jack Klompus - Rage - (63 points)
(-2 spots by last review, +5 spots from draft time)
Still lives up to his expectations, but could've played better if we look at how it looks in general.
9. Bork Lazer - Forge - (64 points)
(-1 spots by last review, +1 spots from draft time)
Bork Lazer is one of these few players who is pretty much at the same position now, in previous review and draft day too.
10. Ryosuke Sato - Stars - (69 points)
(-8 spots by last review, -8 spots from draft time)
Ryosuke Sato is the definition of a player which is just unlucky. He is second in TPE race, but just 10th place in power rankings and it's mostly because he doesn't get a lot of points. I'm pretty sure that he will have his breakout season soon and then things will change - either you like it or not. Keep it going!
11. Simon Takshak - Patriotes - (78 points)
(+2 spots by last review, +4 spots from draft time)
Takshak is pretty consistent - getting up by two spots each review, haha. Get back and be active and things might change here aswell!
12. Pojo Biscuit - Aurora - (81 points)
(-1 spots by last review, -1 spots from draft time)
Wow. I don't know exactly why, but I am kinda shocked about the fact that Pojo is that low in these power rankings.
13. Patrick Shepherd - Forge - (87 points)
(-1 spots by last review, -1 spots from draft time)
Patrick Shepherd being that low is surprising me too and not in a good way.

Thanks to everyone who made it this far. Wasn't easy and this media took multiple days. However, hope you enjoyed it. Wasn't easy, but since I like this type of media and and I needed some SHL cash, I had to do it, haha. And since I've never really cared, I can remind you once again to keep streaming my music, thanks.

I am very disappointed with our selection of @hockeyiscool mostly because he is from Ohio and that is absolutely deplorable to begin with

Interesting comparison for sure - people should do that more often and look into older draft classes (but I don't think you can count all those numbers/lists as words, right?).

I can easily say that writing down all these words, searching for all this information and counting all these statistics takes more time than GFX, but who cares.
