(GRADED) Deep Dive #2 - Looking at the Anaheim Outlaws' draft class
#1
(This post was last modified: 08-27-2021, 06:14 AM by Opera_Phantom.)

All information and TPE totals are correct as of about an hour before this gets posted.

Round 1, Pick 4 (4oa)
Sconnie McHits, LW, TPE: 229

Sconnie McHits is already showing signs that the fourth overall pick was invested wisely on him. With good development since the draft, he looks to be a quick, agile winger that is as comfortable setting up chances as he is converting them.

Round 2, Pick 1 (15oa)
Borje Samuelsson, RD, TPE: 224

Another player who has developed significantly since the draft, Samuelsson is about as offensive minded a defenseman as you are likely to find. He looks to be a playmaker from deep, with great passing and the ability to make reads on the offense.

Round 2, Pick 4 (18oa)
Gus Ceroni, RW, TPE: 155

Though he isn't developing as quickly as the two previous picks (yet, there is still plenty of time), Ceroni is pretty much your typical sniper. With considerable speed and decent accuracy to his shots, he could be a menace on the break.

Round 2, Pick 6 (20oa)
Connor O'Byrne, C, TPE: 233

Connor O'Byrne has been the Outlaws player who has developed most since the draft. He looks like a bit of a steal at 20th overall at this early stage. A physical, offensive minded center, he should be able to use his puckhandling and vision to provide a spark to Anaheim's offense.

Round 3, Pick 2 (30oa)
Eddie Creller, RW, TPE: 224

Seen as a safe pick going into the SMJHL draft, Creller is an intelligent wing who has a good grasp in all phases of the game. A natural creator, he has been putting in some work on the defensive side of his game and represents really good value for Anaheim in the third round.

Round 3, Pick 11 (39oa)
Anzelms Krastiņš, G, TPE: 229

Anzelms Krastiņš is a giant Latvian goaltender whose strengths are his positioning and reflexes. Though goalies are always going to slip in the draft, the development that he has showing since being drafted to Anaheim should give them a lot of hope.

Round 3, Pick 13 (41oa)
Stephan Gill, C, TPE: 198

Stephan Gill is an offensive center who should be adept at keeping the puck moving to good spots. Though his ability at faceoffs was an obvious weakness going into the SMJHL draft, he has made noticeable improvements in that area since joining Anaheim.

Round 4, Pick 1 (43oa)
Klondike Klinkhammer, LD, TPE: 161

Klinkhammer projects as a solid rotational two-way defenceman at Junior level, with potential to be much more. He is an aggressive checker with a solid shot, who will probably find himself in some fights.

Round 4, Pick 7 (49oa)
Stéphane Bababooéy, C, TPE: 172

Stéphane Bababooéy is an offensive minded center who is not averse to putting in a big hit. He has been working on the mental side of his game and refining his defense since being drafted.

Round 5, Pick 10 (66oa)
Bill Sanderson, C, TPE: 155

Sanderson has all the physical tools to be useful in the J, but his defense is a cause for concern at this stage and something that Anaheim will want to work with him to improve.

Round 5, Pick 11 (67oa)
Roger Cadorette, LD, TPE: 158

Roger Cadorette is a defenseman with a very balanced skill set, but looks unlikely to improve further.

Round 6, Pick 6 (76oa)
Tuuka Pack, LD, TPE: 187

Though he doesn't currently have the best physical skill set, Pack is great at screening and shows the ability to get open when in possession. He looks to be improving his game significantly, which makes him a fantastic pick in the sixth round.

Round 7, Pick 6 (90oa)
I.P. Nightly, RD, TPE: 155

Nightly is a hard hitting true defenseman with the ability to read the ice. Unfortunately, he appears to lack the tools to improve.

Round 8, Pick 6 (104oa)
Renal Dalpe, C, TPE: 155

Renal Dalpe fell to the eighth round because of questions about his commitment to improving his game, and those concerns have proved correct so far.

Round 9, Pick 6 (118oa)
John Magnumz, RW, TPE: 155

Magnumz was dropped by the Outlaws to make room for the signing of Dexter Bouchard. The sniper is currently a free agent.

Round 10, Pick 6 (132oa)
Pavski Rooney, LD, TPE: 155

The Mr. Irrelevant of the S61 SMJHL Draft, Rooney is a solid defenseman who can distribute the puck cleanly. He is still on the roster, though he may well be cut in future to make room for a waiver create with higher potential.

In conclusion, the Anaheim Outlaws needed rookies to step in and fill gaps in pretty much all of their lines. Ten of their draftees look like becoming productive SMJHL players, which can be considered a success.
