Merica Embraces New Role in St.Louis

The wild off season for Daniel Merica Jr has finally come to an end, as the offensive dynamo was traded to the St. Louis Scarecrows, one of many trades the Outlaws have made recently, overhauling their team with the change in ownership.

Merica will land in a good spot, a team in need of an offensive leader. ”Im excited to be in St. Louis, I’ve had good talks with Sparky and I’m going to be leading this offense on as we try to win the cup, the exact opportunity I was looking for. It’s also cool because my father won an MVP here.”

Unlike in Anaheim, where Merica wasn’t utilized to his full potential, and spent the majority of his time on the third line, he steps right into St.Louis as the de facto offensive leader. He will be relied upon to do what he does best, and that’s score. ”Although there’s definitely more pressure on me here, it also feels very freeing to be set loose and given the keys, to not have any restraints. Hopefully I’ll be able to perform up to my potential and help out the Scarecrows, I’m also excited to be playing with Beck, who’s also in Winnipeg with me, so getting a headstart on that chemistry.

The Scarecrows are currently off to a hot start, sitting at 4-2, with their losses coming against the juggernaut in Quebec City, which is also the team that all of Merica’s points have come against this season. ”QCC is a tough team to play against, a lot of depth and SHL talent, we just got outplayed by them, but the season is long and we will meet again, and hopefully I continue to have their goalies number.

Although the future is bright, Merica can’t help but wonder what could have been in Anaheim. ”Its disappointing, I think we had a really good team in Anaheim and we had a-lot of chemistry that we didn’t get to fulfill. I was really pushing for us to make a run at the Cup despite management changes, but interests weren’t aligned. I wish them the best going forward.”

Since he declared for the draft, Merica has been dealt heavy criticism and doubter after doubter, many GMs even mocked his selection by Anaheim, and it was even a struggle to find a suitor for him when they put him on the block. Now, he has an opportunity to shut them all up. ”I hear everything that’s been said, they are operating off of a false-pretense, they think they know me and have developed opinions that have no factual basis. I will continue to prove everyone wrong and make sure they know it, too. I don’t forgive or forget.”
