(GRADED) Deep Dive #1: First Week Recap

Week 1 has been completed and the Carolina Kraken is currently leading the league with 22 points in 14 games. The Colorado Raptors, Vancouver Whalers, and Newfoundland Berserkers are all tied for second with 20 points but both Colorado and Newfoundland have 13 games played to Vancouver's 15 games played. With Anaheim in last with 3 points in 12 games.

1. Carolina Kraken | 11-3-0 | 22 Points | +14 Goal Differential |

The Kraken start the season off with a 2-1 win over Vancouver in the season opener and are able to keep it up winning 6 in a row before their first loss to Newfoundland. Cormac Ponaire leads the team in points with 14 for a point a game pace.

2. Colorado Raptors | 9-2-2 | 20 Points | +34 Goal Differential |

Colorado starts with a 3-2 win over Great Falls Grizzlies. Eric Tokke and Rinky McDangle lead the team with 16 points each in 13 games. Colorado currently leads all teams in goal differential with a +34.

3. Newfoundland Berserkers | 10-3-0 | 20 Points | +14 Goal Differential |

Newfoundland starts out hot winning 4-3 over the Detroit Falcons and carrying on to win 3 more before being handed their first loss. Evil AllBran and Robert Black are tied with 14 points each.

4. Vancouver Whalers | 9-4-2 | 20 Points | +26 Goal Differential |

Vancouver leads the league in TPE but falls in the opening game of the season 1-2 to Carolina but rebound quickly with an 8-0 win over Anaheim the next day. Lev Lebedev leads the team in points with 14 and also leads the league in shots with 65.

5. Quebec City Citadelles | 9-3-1 | 19 Points | +20 Goal Differential |

Quebec opens with a loss to Kelowna but quickly bounces back outscoring their opponents 15-4 in the next two games. Greyson Cooper is tied for first in the league for points with 18 and leads the league in goals with 10.

6. Anchorage Armada | 6-5-3 | 15 Points | -6 Goal Differential |

Anchorage wins their first game before going on a 5 game losing skid but rebounds with 5 wins in a row. Anchorage seems to love close games with 8 of their 14 games being within 1 goal. Cole Carter leads the team with 10 points.

7. Detroit Falcons | 7-6-0 | 14 Points | +3 Goal Differential |

Detroit opens the season with two losses before they get a needed win over Kelowna. Ty Murphy is tied for first in the league in points with 18 but leads the league in assists with 14. Teammate Yan Dolff sits in third for points with 17 and second in the league for goals with 7.

8. St. Louis Scarecrows | 7-6-0 | 14 Points | -9 Goal Differential |

St. Louis starts the season winning 5 of the first seven before they hit a rough patch and lose four in a row. Defenseman Matej Winters leads the team with 12 points.

9. Maine Timber | 6-6-1 | 13 Points | +10 Goal Differential |

Maine starts the season with back-to-back losses but rebounds in their next 4 games where they outscored opponents 19-3 posting two shutouts. Jay Cue and Miles O'Brian lead the team in points with 12 apiece. Goalie Bloody Oath posts the second-best goals-against average with 1.99 and league-leading 0.940 save percentage.

10. Regina Elk | 6-8-0 | 12 Points | -8 Goal Differential |

Regina the first of two expansion teams is able to win their first game in the SMJHL with a 4-2 win on home ice against the Maine Timber. Barry B. Benson scores the team's first goal but Robert E. O. Speedwagon and rookie Jaeger Jones lead the team in points with 11.

11. Kelowna Knights | 5-7-1 | 11 Points | -7 Goal Differential |

Kelowna opens the season with a win but is only able to get one more win in their next 6 games. Petr Svoboda, Duncan Mackenzie, and Sebastian Weiss are all tied with 13 points after 13 games.

12. Great Falls Grizzlies | 4-10-0 | 8 Points | -23 Goal Differential |

The Great Falls Grizzlies are the second expansion team but unlike Regina are not able to win their first regular-season game against Colorado who they lose to in a close 2-3 game where Grogu Mandosson gets the teams first goal. Grogu Mandosson also leads the team in points with 9

13. Nevada Battleborn | 3-7-2 | 8 Points | -7 Goal Differential |

Nevada starts off with 2 losses but comes back with 2 straight wins before things start looking downwards with a 6 game losing streak. Jimmy Larkin-Conway leads the team with 13 points.

14. Anaheim Outlaws | 1-10-1 | 3 Points | -40 Goal Differential |

Anaheim's start of the season is rough losing their first 10 games before they are able to get a 3-2 win over the Quebec City Citadelles. Julian Kazarine leads the team in points with 6. Anaheim has the worst goal differential with -40, with the second-worst team only has a -23 goal differential.
