Deep dive Anaheim reconstruction
INTRODUCTION : Rivalries are a huge part of what makes sports fun. They are at their highest when two teams are competing hard and when each given game can be won by either of the teams. Unfortunately, right now, the Colorado and Anaheim rivalry is non-existent. One team is at the top of the standing and the other at the bottom. Why? At the end of last season, the Outlaws started a reconstruction. The new GM, Talls, took over from Ace and he brought with him a new vision. CLEANING HOUSE : To execute his new vision, Talls started by cleaning the house. He kept two players and made multiple trades. One trade was for a player and all the others were for multiple draft picks. ROSTER PLAYERS STAYING : One of the players staying is Jack Micro. He is a 425 TPE right-winger. He is the only non-rookie that was drafted by Anaheim. He was the 54th overall pick in the S58 entry draft. Unfortunately, the user WildfireMicro has gone inactive. He is one of the two capped players. The other player that played for Anaheim in the S60 season that is still playing is Charlie Bombay. Charlie is a 219 TPE emergency backup goalie. The user has been inactive since July. TRADES : The only player that was brought via trade before the draft is Senji Seteki. He is Talls’ player. Seteki is a 425 TPE goalie that has been draft by the San Francisco Pride in the SHL. With their aging backup goalie, they might call up Seteki next year. He is the second and last capped player of the Outlaws. He is 10th in TPE for his draft class. S61 DRAFT : With their numerous trades, Anaheim had a lot of draft picks coming in the S61 entry draft Number analysis : The team had 14 drafts picks and here’s the distribution.
They were the only team to draft past the eighth round. So they had 4 consecutive picks. Past the third round, only Tuuka Pack did not bust. In his first draft, Talls had a 50% success rate with his draft selections. Seven of the fourteen drafted players are still active. If we only consider the first four rounds, his success rate jumps up to 62,5%. GMs are not expecting picks past the fourth round to pan out. Outright busts : The team had three outright busts that did not even sign their contract. Those players are pick 66th Bill Sanderson, pick 67th Roger Cadorette, and pick 118th John Magnumz. S61 Draft players on the roster : Now we will look at the S61 drafted players on the roster. Busts : Here’s a list of players on the roster that are clear busts by position : Forwards : Gus Ceroni: The highest bust of Anaheim draft. He is a forward that was picked in the second round 18th overall. He’s been inactive since the 28th of august Renal Dalpe: He is an 8th round pick forward and he never updated Stéphane Bababooéy: He is a 4th round pick forward. His last visit is on the 26th of august. Defenseman : I.P. Nightly: He is a 10th round pick defenseman and he never updated. Pavski Rooney: He is a 7th round pick defenseman and he never updated. Klondike Klinkhammer : He is a 4th round pick defenseman. He updated once but has been inactive since the 25th of august Active rookies : On the bright side here’s the active rookie that can eventually max earn. They are the future of the Anaheim Outlaws. Forwards: Eddie Creller: One of the two recreate drafts by the Outlaws. He is ranked 15th of all the S62 rookies. He is a third-round pick, but he is currently the best Anaheim rookie. He is currently the best goal scorer on the team. Sconnie McHits: The fourth overall pick has a nice future with the team. The user is active. It was a good first-round pick. He is rank 21st of all S62 rookies Connor O'Byrne: A second-round pick that is 26th in TPE for all the S62 rookies. A solid pick that has a nice future. He currently has the most assists on the team. Stephan Gill: He was the 38th round pick and he is 38th in TPE. Talls picked up at the right spot. Tuuka Pack: Lowest draft pick of all the active outlaw’s rookies. It’s a nice surprise because this player was picked in the sixth round. This is a hard-working player that can achieve big things if he keeps it up. Defenseman: Borje Samuelsson: The second recreate drafted by the Outlaws and the only drafted defenseman that is still active. He is ranked 28th in TPE. Goalie: Anzelms Krastins: This goalie is essential in Talls’ reconstruction. The team needs a good number one goalie if Seteki gets called up next season. He is third in TPE for all the S62 rookie goalies. FREE AGENTS : Old blood : Those players were signed by Talls as a stopgap. They are inactive and have higher TPE than rookies. Forward : Julian Kazarine: A 272 TPE forward. He can help the young player develop. He may be there next season depending on the draft Defenseman : Doug Glatt: A 270 TPE defenseman that is useful in his role. He won’t develop further but he helps the team right now. Future : Those players can be the future of the team. They are S62 rookies that can develop into max earners. Forward : Dexter Bouchard: This player is 55th in TPE and the user is still active. He will continue to climb in the next weeks Jeremy Hall: The last player signed by the Outlaws. He is climbing fast and he can be a force to be reckoned with in the next season. Defenseman : Trevor Malone: The highest rank of those free agents signing. He is 49th in TPE and climbing. Long term he can help solidify the outlaw blueline. FUTURE The future is bright for Anaheim, but to make this reconstruction a success, Talls will have to fill some gaps. He currently has 3 low TPE inactive forwards and 3 low inactive defensemen. The Outlaws might need a backup goalie if Seteki gets called up. So to make this team a future contender Talls need seven players. Furthermore, two players have 270 TPE and are inactive. Ideally, they will need to be replaced in the future. S62 DRAFT In the next draft, Anaheim has 13 draft picks. Four of those picks are in the first three rounds. If Talls keeps his success rate of 50% he can get 6 or 7 good active players in the next draft. That would be enough to fill the gap in the Outlaws roster. It will all depend on the deepness of the draft. CONCLUSION In conclusion, the Anaheim Outlaws are starting their reconstruction, and with a good draft and good free agent signings, they can be good next year and good in two years. Let’s hope Talls can resurrect the Outlaws-Raptors rivalry.
