(This post was last modified: 09-29-2021, 04:35 AM by Mutedfaith.)

The playoffs are about to start, and that brings us to the second DFA bounty:

You've made it. You're on the list to be drafted into the SMJHL. Some of you have already temporarily joined a team for the remainder of this season to stay in shape and possibly attract more attention from scouts.

Written Task: Write a summary of your scouting profile, highlighting why you you're expected to do well in the upcoming draft (250 word min.)
Graphic Task: Show us the cover photo for your scouting file. Must include your render, name, position and nationality.

Reward: $500,000 for doing one of the above

Only current SMJHL Draftable Free Agents (S62 SMJHL Draftees, SHL class of S63) are eligible for this bounty.

There is no need to claim this anywhere. After grading the money should pop up in your account 'automatically'.

Deadline: Sunday, October 3rd @ 11:59pm EST

Let us take a look into Ivan Lacksamus's prospects as an upcoming SMJHL rookie. In most situations scouts would look at the player's abilities, school history, and possibly even lineage to determine who may be the best fit for their team. However, Ivan is not your normal every day rookie. At 160 TPE, his skills on paper are on par (at best) with the other players in the same rookie pool. His background playing in local recreation leagues and against randoms in high school doesn't really do much other than to say that he's marginally better than the other scrubs he played with. And his lineage is not stellar.

Lacksamus's uncle, Ivan Maximus, once played in the SHL though he never did live up to his potential. After starting strong in the SMJHL, a good draft into SHL, an SMJHL cup, and some good progress in his early years he flamed out quite quickly. He stayed active in the big leagues for a few seasons and then deteriorated into binging on stolen cheese and failing to show up to practices. He was then traded around to anyone that needed a warm body, but wasn't what a normal scout would call a stellar career.

Lacksamus is hoping to leave that stigma behind and become a solid earner. While he may not be the fastest, strongest, or most accurate on the team his goal is to be a day in and day out workhorse that can be relied upon to bring success to the team.

Oh yeah, he's also looking for that 10x10 contract. Before you even say "WhAt AbOuT tHe RuLeS?!" - Lacksamus doesn't play by the rules. Make it happen coach!

Chris McZehrl Jr. born in Leipzig was playing in Germany until now and also grew up in Germany. The natural born German and also natural Center will try to step in to the SMJHL. Chris played for the Juniors Team of the Eisbären Berlin. He comes to North America with 4 Seasons in the U18 in the package. In his first Season he had 4 Goals and 18 Assists in 40 Games. In his second Season he was a bit better with 13 Goals and 25 Assists in 40 Games. With his third season he was a 1st Line on his team and played an important role. He brought up 18 Goals and 32 Assists in 40 Games. In his last season for the Eisbären Berlin in the U18 he was the Captain of his team and was the keyfactor. He brought up 20 Goals and 31 Assists in 40 Games. Now he is looking for the SMJHL with his dream to play one day in the SHL like his father Chris McZehrl senior. Chris is having a very well known Family in McZehrls and all he want is that he can jump in the very big footprints. For the SMJHL Chris train very hard and want to help his team he will land. With that he is having a very good balanced skill package as Two Way Center with a good ability with his faceoffs. With that he can bring many puck possession to his team. Keep your eyes on him because if he is having the same potential like the rest of his hockey family he will be a very good player.

Mateo Lavoie is from a small town in Norway named Littlehammer, but is from the reclusive and renown (in Norway) Lavoie family. Never coming out during the day, the Lavoie mansion is always shrouded in a cloud of mystery. Mateo was an unknown name when he tried out for the junior league in Norway, impressing the coach with his determination and two way play. Mateo never felt that he needed to be the star, instead choosing to focus on making his teammates look better through his play. His coach recognized this and gave him the second line right defenseman role. Lavoie enjoyed this role, and for a while was content to play with his team. Something odd began to happen, as his team would only take night games and seemed to get paler as a team.
It was not until he received a call from fellow countryman and longtime friend of the Lavoie family Aksel Fiske that Mateo considered jumping over to the SHL. With 166 TPE, Mateo is right on par with the rest of the rookie class when it comes to his skills. Mateo’s pass first, two way playing ability makes him a dream for whatever team is willing to take a chance on this odd raw prospect. Lavoie’s quiet leadership is an asset for whatever team picks him up, and his selfless play endears him to co-workers and fans alike.
Based on his experience in the juniors, his first season with Quebec and the playoff run, Lavioe can be expected to be an asset in whatever team drafts him. As he is a rookie, he is not expected to be taken high, but he is expected to make an immediate impact on the team that selects him. He is looking forward to playing defense opposite his longtime girlfriend Ulyana Mironova, who is herself a left defensewoman.

Bilbo Baggins Pre-draft Profile

Bilbo comes from a relatively unknown region called “The Shire” and first showed up on scout’s radar mere months ago in more well-known minor leagues – quite an anomaly from the average path of many prospects.
Despite not having much data from his time in The Shire, Bilbo has reported that he felt like the competition over there was stifling his ability to grow as a player due to the underdeveloped investment of hockey in the region. He recently made the jump to the SMJHL as a DFA playing for the Anaheim Outlaws where he has had flashes of brilliance while getting adjusted to the new league, a solid start for this upcoming rookie.

He has also been picked up by the British Isles WJC team (which apparently “The Shire” is a part of) where we look forward to his impact among his peers. Should be a very exciting player to watch where we can get additional information on this exciting rookie.

Bilbo is looking to develop into a top-pairing, left handed OFD, where his ability to make opportunities in the opponent’s end is starting to shine through. His lateral skating ability and edgework allows him to make space for him to either shoot from the point (what a slapper this has from the point despite his 5’1” size) or to pass to set up his teammates. His patience with the puck in the offensive zone seems to be quite beyond his years, but his tendency to pinch to keep up the offensive pressure can lead to some defensive shortcomings.  Quite offensively driven, he could develop into a solid quarterback for a power play unit.

In his short time with the Outlaws , Bilbo has publicly stated that his defensive game needs work in order to become a more well-rounded player for the SMJHL. Bilbo doesn’t appear to be a liability 5v5, but often struggles in the “dirty areas” in his own end. With limited experience in the PK, Bilbo is not expected to be relied upon as a “shut-down” man in key defensive moments in games. This could change if Bilbo really commits to becoming a more well-rounded defensive player.

Additionally, Bilbo’s skating speed is below average (due to his wee little legs, and short strides). He does make up for this lack of ability with excellent edgework to make his way around opponents, but it is very noticeable in his North-South game. This drawback in speed coupled with his small physical stature, Bilbo does struggle when caught by opponents against the boards and in corners.

Insider Information
There are concerns that Bilbo may have lied on his resume about his height and weight coming into the league. Listed at 5’1 and 151 pounds the eye test does not seem to match when compared to other players on the ice – he appears to be …. quite a bit smaller.  However this does lead to exciting plays as we did witness Bilbo slide on his belly between a defender’s legs with the puck to set up a one-timer from the slot. Not something you witness often. Or ever.

Bilbo is excited to be on the Outlaws , but rumors have floated around that he has also corresponded with the Kraken, Armada, Falcons. In such a short time of being on the radar of SMJHL GM’s he could go anywhere.

Draft Prediction:
Overall, Bilbo would be a welcome addition on a team looking to improve their PP, and offensive production from the point. It would be beneficial to have a defensive minded partner on the blue line. The amount of development Bilbo has shown over a short time leads to a high projected ceiling for the near future.  Could be a top pairing defenseman after a year or two of seasoning, but is projected to comfortably contribute in the J the next season.

Projected to be a mid to high first round pick for the upcoming draft. Might be a welcome surprise for the top 5 if development continues at such a rapid pace. Bit of a gamble as he comes from a not so well known region previously.

We are looking forward to watching this player come draft day!

San-sam Emerson is projected to develop into an offensive minded defender. When he was developing as youth player, he flip flopped between playing forward and defense depending on the needs of the teams he was on. Finally, after his father’s illustrious career as an SHL defender, San-sam settled on the back end.
The new Emerson plays a hybrid type of game. He is definitely hungry to be a goal scorer. In the lead up to joining the Detroit Falcons as a DFA, Emerson focused primarily on how he was reading the offensive end of the ice. He already has as accurate of a shot that a defender can have and he is working on his shooting range every practice with a special weighted stick of his own design. Scouts have come to the consensus that he is very comfortable in the offensive end of the rink and already shows very good poise with the puck. If there is one widely known negative of Emerson’s offensive game it is that he is a bit of a puck hog. He seems to get blinded by going for the shot and as a result is a bit of a poor passer. Sources in Detroit have said that Emerson is actively working on this with coaching staff but he will most likely always be a shoot first kind of player.
In the defensive end of the rink Emerson is capable at the SMJHL level for the moment. By no means is Emerson a prima donna but he has been chewed out a few times for shying away from blocking shots. Once again, Emerson is doing his best to at least be passable in this part of his game.
Ultimately, his mantra is the best defense is a good offense and will be of the most use to a team who can pair him with a stay at home defender that allows him to make use of his offensive capabilities. Emerson jumped into the SMJHL as an under ager and what able to pot a few points with little time for chemistry to develop with his linemates. Emerson is projected to be one of the top names in the upcoming drafts.
