General Acronyms
SHL
- Simulation Hockey League
- Stands for both the site, aka the forums, where everything takes place, as well as the Simulation Hockey League that players from the Simulation Major Juniors Hockey League ((SMJHL) See below) graduate into. Teams compete for the Challenge Cup in multiple best of seven series.

SMJHL
- Simulation Major Junior Hockey League
- The junior league where all players begin their careers, otherwise known as the J, where teams compete for the Four Star Cup in multiple series of seven games.

IIHF
- International Ice Hockey Federation
- A competitive competition of nations facing to earn medals of bronze, silver, & gold. Players play on teams made up of national identity instead of draft results. What the Simulation Hockey League (SHL) is to international competitions.

WJC
- World Junior Championship
- The lower level of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF), where predominantly Juniors League players compete for medals of bronze, silver, & gold,

TPE
- Total Points Earned
- The currency Total Points Earned (TPE) is the currency used to improve your player. Gained by completing different tasks like Activity Checks ((AC) See below), Point Tasks ((PT) See below), and other various opportunities typically listed in the Player Progression subforums of the forums. You apply this by completing a proper update in your Update Page (Found *HERE*)

PT
- Point Task
- A task completed typically under the “Player Progression” subforum of the website. When completed properly, these will give some amount of Total Points Earned (TPE) that can be used to improve your player. Most require some sort of either writing 150 words on a specific set of topics or making a special graphic on those topics.

mPT
- mini Point Task
- A special form of Point Task (PT) that usually requires less work than a typical PT, normally with far less words than normal.

AC
- Activity Check
- A weekly Point Task (PT) that is completable for 2 Total Points Earned (TPE), and the amount completed recently is often the measure of activity status for a user on the site.

FA
- Free Agent
- A player who is currently not under contract with any Simulation Hockey League (SHL) or Simulation Major Junior Hockey League (SMJHL) player. Often have special rules that apply to them depending on their level of SHL vs SMJHL, and can usually be contacted by General Managers (GM or GMs) to accept a contract with a team.

AFA
- Active Free Agent
- A special denomination of Free Agents (FAs) that are explicitly active, which often result in more active & personal decision making in the team they will sign with.

DFA
- Draftable Free Agent
- A special kind of player found within the Simulation Major Junior Hockey League (SMJHL). This specifically refers to players created *after* the SMJHL Trade Deadline (TDL) but *before* the end of the SMJHL Playoffs. These players may sign with a team and play on their roster as long as they are not listed as a Unrostered Draftable Free Agent ((UDFA) Seen below)

UDFA
- Unrostered Draftable Free Agent
- A special kind of player akin to Draftable Free Agents, UDFA are players who have created their players after all teams are full with Draftable Free Agents (DFA). These players can be signed to J teams, but may not be on their roster.

IFA
- Inactive Free Agent
- A player who has gone inactive per the rulebook definition, and is signable to special IFA Contracts by teams looking to fill their rosters. These players fall under different rules for restrictions on dropping them, typically more lenient ones than an active player

RFA
- Restricted Free Agent
- A player whose SHL entry-level SHL contract has expired and has not signed a new deal by the opening of free agency or has been drafted to an SHL team but has not yet signed a contract with them. The rights to the player are owned by a specific team. Only this team may attempt to sign them, however teams may trade these rights.

UFA
- Unrestricted Free Agent
- A UFA is a player whose contract with a team has expired at the start of Free Agency, and has not signed a new contract with any team. UFAs have the freedom to negotiate a new contract with any SHL team once Free Agency has opened. Extremely similar to FA.

BUG
- Backup Goalie
- A goalie designated as the Backup Goalie for a team is a goalie who will start less games than the main goalie, and must be designated by the team’s General Manager (GM) before the start of the season.

EBUG
- Emergency Backup Goalie
- An EBUG is a goalie, typically found in the Simulation Major Junior Hockey League (SMJHL), who can be signed to much smaller than normal contracts and exists for emergency purposes only. These situations include both of a SMJHL team’s goalies being called up to the Simulation Hockey League (SHL) on a certain day, leaving the SMJHL team potentially without a goalie.

GM
- General Manager
- A GM is the head of a team, the person in charge of all their decisions. They are the ones responsible for determining who the team drafts, what contracts players are signed to, where do players slot into the lineup for games, any trades, and just about anything relating to the standard running of a team. GMs may hire a Co-GM to assist with these tasks.

CW
- Championship Week
- CW is a special form of Point Task (PT) that occurs every season right before the Challenge Cup Finals & Four Star Cup Finals. As of time of writing, this specific task is worth up to 8 Total Points Earned (TPE). This TPE is earned from many prompts about the teams involved in the finals to write about, create graphics for, and record podcasts regarding.

ASW
- All Star Week
- ASW is a special form of Point Task akin to CW, that at time of writing occurs after CW and lets you earn up to 8 TPE

TDL
- Trade DeadLine
- The TDL is a specific date set some time into the season, typically around the 50 games mark out of 66, where teams and their rosters are considered “locked in”. Teams may no longer trade for or away players, nor may Simulation Hockey League (SHL) teams send down Simulation Major Junior Hockey League (SMJHL) players after the SMJHL TDL. However, SMJHL players may be called up to their SHL team at any time.

TD
- ThunderDome
- TD can refer to many things all relating to the Thunderdome. In the shortest form, a TD is a public condemnation of a certain thing. A TD can be about anything from another user not doing their job, a team employing underhanded tactics, complaining about someone not upholding a bet, or anything at all a user wishes to complain about, even maybe a friendly joke between teammates. The phrase “TD” can refer to the specific location where thunderdomes can be found, a specific thunderdome like “X’s TD”, or “TD’ing” someone so as to write a thunderdome about them.

HTD
- HomeTown Discount
- A HTD are discounted Simulation Hockey League (SHL) contracts players may opt into, allowing them to be signed for cheaper  terms than normal. There are many stipulations about how HTDs work, all found in the SHL Rulebook.

NTC
- No Trade Clause
- A NTC is a specific clause applicable to contracts that prevents the team from trading that player without the player’s consent. Teams may still approach a player about potentially being traded, at which case a player can agree or disagree to waive their NTC. Similar to a NMC, and often used interchangeably.

NMC
- No Movement Clause
- A NMC is a specific clause applicable to contracts that prevents a team from moving a player with the NMC. Teams may approach a player to ask the player to agree to waive the NMC should the team wish to move them, but a player can deny the request freely. While a NMC is supposed to be more restrictive than a No Trade Clause (NTC), as a NMC is intended to protect a player from being traded, as well as sent up/down by a team or exposed to expansion, typically it is used interchangeably with NTC.

MNTC
- Modified No Trade Clause
- A MNTC is a NTC with certain stipulations. This can be something like “10 team NTC”, where a player can say 10 specific teams they cannot be traded to freely but all other teams are eligible for the player to be traded to without discussion.Typically the purposes of MNTCs are explained in the contract signing page, even if the specifics (like the specific teams that they cannot be traded to) are not.

MNMC
- Modified No Movement Clause
- A MNMC is a NMC with certain stipulations. This can be something like “10 team NMC”, where a player can say 10 specific teams they cannot be traded to freely but all other teams are eligible for the player to be traded to without discussion. Typically the purposes of MNMCs are explained in the contract signing page, even if the specifics (like the specific teams that they cannot be traded to) are not.

- Season “##”
- Always found at the start of a player page’s title, this denotes the Season a player would first be eligible to be drafted by an Simulation Hockey League (SHL) team. For example, a S50 player is one who was drafted into or joined the Simulation Major Junior Hockey League (SMJHL) in S49, but was first eligible to be drafted into the SHL starting with S50. This helps keep track of when a player is eligible to be drafted into the SMJHL or SHL, when their regression would start, and other recordkeeping things.

PH
- Placeholder
- Not a joke, ph literally means “placeholder”. Used either seriously by users as a placeholder when completing various tasks or submitting media, or said jokingly and ironically by other users as a tongue in cheek poke at the first group of users.

J
- Juniors
- Another way to refer to the Simulation Major Junior Hockey League (SMJHL).

HO
- Head Office
- The Head Office is a group of users in charge of promoting the overall wellness of the League in various forms. This includes things such as running the entry drafts, resolving disputes between teams, making rulings or adjusting the rulebook as necessary, and other such duties. The term HO typically refers to one of four various Head Offices, Simulation Hockey League (SHL) HO, Simulation Major Junior Hockey League (SMJHL) HO, International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) HO, or World Junior Championship (WJC) HO. Each operates individually but they often collaborate when needed.

LR
- Locker Room
- A LR is a centralized location for teams, typically found on Discord and/or the site forums. LRs vary individually between who’s involved, what they discuss, where they discuss it, and many various nuances. However, all typically are focused on the team and the people related to that.
