S61 SMJHL Championship Week

(This post was last modified: 10-12-2021, 11:21 PM by Sburbine.)

Task #3: In order to really show our appreciation for the long time fans, we would have an alumni night where we give away Steve Harrington bobble heads to commemorate the S55 cup win. The incredible Harrington flow would make for a perfect bobble head, an instant collectors item that fans with want to get their hands on it. To a few luck fans, we'll even give away tiny little sailors hats to put on top of the majestic flow, fans will be reselling these things for decades. We'll also start giving away Beeg Yosh bobble heads to celebrate the same championship before the Nintendo corporation comes for us and in a few years we'll also be giving out merchandise of everyone's favorite reptile, Pasta The Turtle.

2 TPE (125 words)

Task #5: I would definitely join Ham, Jeff and the rest of the team at the animal shelter adoption drive. Every team has a calendar with their cute pets and since Jay O'Neil has finally made a home here in St. John so he's decided to adopt a furry little friend for himself. Any adoption is helpful and players adopting pets set a good example to everyone else to adopt too. Jay had cats growing up so he looked at all of those little guys and gals first and he saw so many he loved that he couldn't decide on just one or two. There was an adorable calico named Spots, a grey cat named Fox, and a black cat named Night. He asked his team mates and Jeff said Spots, and Tommy said Night so to make a decision he flipped a coin he flipped a coin and insanely enough it landed on it's edge! So in order to celebrate the near miracle Jay decided to adopt all three and make one big happy, furry family. As Jeff already said we were able to find homes for 186 animals and I got three of them.

3 TPE (194 words)

Task #6: The first pick of the dream team would be the player in second place in points at the end of the regular season, Robert Black. He was a dynamic playmaker for the Zerks who ended up leading the league in assists and helping bring up his team all season. Second I would pick the points leader on the Whalers, Lev Lebedev who had a fairly even 34 goals and 41 assists during the regular season, he would do very well getting fed by the assist king Robert Black. for my last forward I would take Robot Sunfish as someone else who can score a lot of goals and would do well with Black as his center. The three of them together would be an unstoppable first line. For the top defense line I would pick NeverBrokeAgain YoungBoy from the Whalers with his insane 66 points during the regular season and his line mate would be Sabarro Torretta from the Zerks, the highest scoring defenseman on the team. I hate to say it but for goalie I'd put in Olof Karsikko from the Whalers, he had a similar regular season than the Zerk's Evgeni Petrov but he came up so clutch in the playoffs.

3 TPE (203 words)

Task #8: My goal for Jay O'Neil has been a shutdown defenseman from the when I first created him and his first season in the SMJHL definitely shows that. With his one goal in the regular season and 2 goals in the playoffs, he certainly hasn't been looked at for big shot volumes or high scoring. He added a decent 20 assists to that so the passing was there for him not far from his specialty. The stat where Jay really shined was with his +/-, ending the season with a +41. I know a lot of people hate on +/- for being kind of a bad stat but it still shows how much Jay's team was scoring and more importantly how little the other team was scoring. He also ended up with a pretty low 17 takeaways, a decent 54 blocks and a respectable 89 hits. These stats equated to a 57 overall game rating, 51 offensive game rating, and a 61 defensive game rating. Not bad for his first season but there is certainly room to grow next year.

3 TPE (177 words)

Task#11:  Jay O'Neil is mad about getting swept in the final, he worked so hard to get there and not even winning a game really bothered him. To channel that hate, this offseason, Jay is getting big and he's getting stronger. No more will he give away the puck for nothing, instead he's going to forecheck you away as he passes it to the forward skating by. He's going to train the whole offseason to try an be a better player next year, from defensive fundamentals such checking and shotblocking to even training his offensive abilities such as puckhandling and passing, he needs to be able to win any way he can. Jay wants to show the league that they should be scared when they're on the ice with him and the best way he can do that is get better. He needs to make sure the other jerseys stay out of his defensive zone by getting in their face and hitting them away from the play, and maybe next year he can score a whole two goals, that'll show the haters.

Task #1 - 3 TPE [159 words]

If I had to play for another SMJHL team I would definitely choose the Newfoundland Berserkers. They have obviously proven that they have the chops to be perennial cup contenders, and the chance to play with some of their players would be an incredible privilege. Robert Black broke the assist record this season with 56 and added 25 goals for 81 points - just two shy of the scoring lead, trailing my team mate Greyson Cooper. Maxwell King and Evil Allbran round out their top line with some serious talent, and a cast of promising rookies make this team something special. They may not have taken it home to The Rock this year but perhaps they’re one Brady Bertrand away from moving the needle. I also lived in Newfoundland for three years and miss it dearly- though my liver is in a much better condition my heart fondly recalls foggy streets and hazy eyes, and a 3am last call.

Task #5 - 3 TPE [156 words]

Hockey players often get a bad wrap for being brain dead dummies, so what better way to prove the world wrong than to donate your time, money and passion *to* brain dead dummies. Brady Bertrand holds the Organization for People Who Lack Common Sense (OfPWLCS for short) near and dear to his heart, and will stop at nothing to not only raise awareness of the lack of common sense, but to implement common sense school programs for children, teens and continued education adults. “As an athlete with a large audience, I just felt Like I had to do *something* about this issue plaguing our society - I will donate $500,000 a year to the OfPWLCS for the rest of my career, and will invite one child who needs common sense the most to spend the day with the Citadelles and view our game from my own private box for every home game at the Videotron Center.”

Task #6 - 3 TPE [274 words]

LW | Lev Lebedev, Vancouver Whalers - What’s more to say about Lev? Other than his name sounds the same with a mouth full of marbles. This guy is the whole package - the mans got **16 points in 14 games** this playoffs. He’s got stud written all over him. Try saying that with marbles in your mouth, idiot.

C | Makrus “The Tater” Jager, Vancouver Whalers - While he only potted 9 points this post season there is no way in hell I would ever leave someone who goes by “The Tater” off my list.

RW | Robert Black, Newfoundland Berserkers - Black is a natural center, but we’re going to put him on the wing for this all star team. Black is the sauce to our Taters. This man smashed the SMJHL assist record. Thems some saucy taters.

RD | NeverBrokeAgain YoungBoy, Vancouver Whalers - I have no idea what this name is about, but the kid has got some chops. 11 points in 14 games this post season as a defenceman? Yup. I’ll take it. He even managed to stay +9 while clapping all them bombs.

LD | Sven Svechnikov, Vancouver Whalers - There’s only one thing I love more than alliteration - and that’s stud D-men who go for nine points and a +4 in the post season.

G | Evgeni Petrov, Newfoundland Berserkers - Can’t let Vancouver have all the fun, now, can we? Petrov literally didn’t have a backup. This dude is a one man army, and what he might lack in a goaltending tandem he more than makes up for in gusto and pizazz. Que jazz hands.

Task #3 - 2 TPE [112 words]

Every year there comes a time when the management team of the Quebec City Citadelles reflects upon our loyal fans and asks ourselves how we can give back to them, for as cheap as heavenly possible. Evok had the cursor over the “ORDER NOW” button on the ACME foam finger website until Flex pepped up from the back “Hey, don’t we have a dumpster full of team hats from all them hatty’s that Cap’n Coop scored?” Fuckin’ eh, Flex. Let that weird kid Skylar from the concession booth, who smells like weed and patchouli toss you a used hat as you walk in - just to show you how much we care.

Task #7 - 3 TPE [173 words]

I think the better question to ask would be: How would round one have gone if the divisions weren’t so lopsided? The three teams that finished dead last in regular season (Detroit, Regina and Anaheim) somehow made it into the playoffs while the eighth seed Maine and eleventh seed Nevada didn’t get a chance to go head to head. Every series in the first round was won by the higher seeded team with St. Louis and Great Falls being the only one that could’ve gone either way. Maine could have been a serious wild card and had a chance to give every single winning first-round team a run for their money. And, if they did move on to the second round, would also have stood a good chance against multiple second round teams like Anchorage, Kelowna and Great Falls. Alas, we will never know, but should probably re-align the divisions so that Nevada isn’t in the same group as Newfoundland who, geographically, couldn’t get much further apart while remaining on the same continent.

Task #9 - 2 TPE [121 words]

Round three- Newfoundland Berserkers vs. Quebec City Citadelles. This is most definitely a biased opinion considering it was my team and we were trailing from behind for the majority of the series. The locker room was still really positive and hopeful and as per tradition my player decided to wake up and perform well in most of the games that we lost. The last game that we lost, that would have evened the series at three a piece had we won, came down to one goal that was scored within the last couple minutes. It was a real heart breaker. But in the words of Aksel Fiske “Maybe the real four star cup is the friends we made along the way”

Task #12 - 3 TPE
Write a pre-draft scout report on your player from the perspective of a journalist covering the prospects of the S61 draft class. What do possible SHL suitors have to be excited (or perhaps wary?) about when it comes to potentially drafting your player?

Theo Berglund - 66 GP 6 Goals 17 Assists 23 points -22
Next up lets have a look at this big 6 ft. 3 prospect hailing from Stockholm, Sweden. Theo Berglund is a right handed defenseman, who has shown both a prowess for defense and offense. Theo is slated to be a balanced defender, not sacrificing the teams defensive structure too much to jump up into the play. It may not look like this at first look, due to his -22 +/-. but I've watched a lot of his games over the last year and he always was in the right place at the right time.

Theo has also been developing into a bit of a powerplay specialist on the Regina Elk. Theo has flashed his offensive awareness by scoring a few goals during this time, and he also looked quick, accurate and smooth with his passing. His speed has also been improving slowly over the season, and he now can be counted as one of the faster players on his Regina roster.

Task #5 - 3 TPE
Professional hockey players are among the luckiest members of a community, but not everyone is given the same opportunities. As such, many players are expected to give back to the community by volunteering their time and energy off the ice with various charitable organizations. Either write about a charity or event that your player helped out with, or create a flyer or invitation for your event, including team logo, a photo of your player render, and the charity/charities being supported by the event.

Theo Berglund grew up in a small town, and hence knows the value in having a strong tight-knit community. Due to this, Theo enjoys volunteering as a coach for various minor league hockey leagues in his community. When Theo was a young boy he was trained by an ex-NHLer in his home town, and he never would have made it to the NHL if it wasn't for this kind soul. Therefore, he now volunteers his weekends (when not in season) towards passing it along to the next generation; this is Theo's way of honoring his mentors intentions.

Theo has personally helped guide his teams to multiple championships, but most importantly, has guided them towards having a fun time. Pizza parties, laser tag, and laughs in the locker room are the true championships for Theo and the teams. His coaching has been invaluable to these teams, and he has helped grow the game with the younger generation in a positive way.

Task #11 - 3 TPE
It's officially the offseason. Whether you just won the cup or didn't even make it past the first round of the playoffs, it's time to take a break and look toward the SHL draft. In 150+ words, tell us how you're spending your time this offseason.

Theo Berglund, other then volunteering at the local rinks as previously mentioned, has also picked up a fun new game during the off season; additionally, he has gotten a few of the other elks into playing this game with him. This new game is Spikeball, a popular game found at beaches around the country. The game is played by bouncing a lightly inflated ball off of a trampoline in a tennis style back and forth. The other team (teams of 2) then try's to stop the ball from hitting the ground by bouncing it off the trampoline again (you have three touches to do this).
This game has been great for getting Theo ready for next season. The game helps to improve his hand eye coordination, speed, reflex's, and really just everything to do with hockey. Additionally, it has helped Theo improve his ability to quickly snag the puck out of the air and throw it onto the ice. A lot more pucks have been being stopped at the blue line due to his new found skill.

Task #10 - 3 TPE
So your team just got eliminated these playoffs, and have to look forward to next season where hopefully things go differently. What does your team have to be excited about for next season, where they'll have another go at the coveted 4-star cup?

The elk ended up going out in the first round of the playoffs, but this isn't the end. There's a lot for the Regina Elk to be looking forward to for next season, as they look to build upon their first season success, where we weren't even projected in making the playoffs. The Regina Elk have a high draft pick, and a whole new round of new blood to be coming into the team. We have a new coach, new gm, and a whole new system which we will be implementing for the next season.
By far the the biggest bright spot for the Elk has to be their rookies, who will now be a season smarter, stronger and better. Almost all of them are developing well, and should be improving on their starting seasons. Additionally, Rebecca should be playing a lot more games for the next season, and when she's on her game we have a shot every game in shutting down the opposition.

Task #13 - 4 TPE

Answer up to 4 of these prompts, each one being worth 1 TPE for 50+ words each.

A. Which player from either team has the best name in this series (just the name itself, nothing to do with the player themselves).

SD Core is probably my favorite name that I've seen so far, not that i have seen a lot of them. I like this name because its simple, easy to remember, and just really gets right to the point quickly. Additionally, the player is one of the top point getters in the league, which lends some power to the SD Core brand.

B. The Newfoundland Berserkers have lost the opening two games of this series. How can they turn it around?
If i were the berserkers i would try going back to the drawing board and thinking up some new tactics going into next game. Their tactics are probably be poorly matched up against their opponent currently, and I think it would help them to turn this series around.  At this point trying anything different could be the catalyst they need.

C. You're in another timeline where Quebec and Colorado are the two cup finalists. What went right for them in this timeline's playoffs compared to ours where they lost in the semi finals?
Hockey is has such a degree of randomness to it, obviously not all of it but its a portion for sure. I don't think anything too different would have had to change for them to have advanced in the playoffs series. One shot going in, a change of momentum, a penalty called at the right time, or a kill being excecated successfully can all have been the tiny butterfly effect needed for them to advance.

D. We've been talking about the playoffs, but it's performance throughout the season that helped get our finalists into the playoffs. Who was the key player to success for either team (or both) during the regular season and why?
Berserkers - Robert Black What a great season for Robert Black, as he finished with 56 assists (first in the league) and was a large part of driving offense on this team. There was only one player who finished top 10 in points for the berserkers this season, and a large portion of his goals came off the stick of Robert black.

Task #1 - 3 TPE
If you weren't playing for your current team, which team would you most like to be playing for in the playoffs.  Explain why you chose that team and how you think you'd slot into their roster.  Would your player make a big impact on the team?  Would you improve their chances of winning a cup?
Requirements:  150+ words.

Creller would be tying his skates up for Quebec City. Greyson Cooper put's on a great performance on the top line, but the 3rd line could really use some dazzle. Creller is the one for that job with his grit in front of the net. He owned a shooting average better than his entire team, including Cooper with only 14 minutes of ice time, with no special teams. Slide him on the powerplay to clean up from the point and the third line for even strength, and the cup for sure goes to Quebec City. Vancouver was a pretty tough team but we would have at least beat Newfoundland and put up a better showing. Get swept was bad luck, but even a Quebec Vancouver series with Creller on the third line would have been a 7 game nailbiter. Worst case I'd like to just sit on the 4th line with 6 minutes a game and be happy I was on Evok's team.

Requirements: 150+ words.

Next season was looking to be a big one for the Outlaws but with a couple hits in activity, it is looking to be an improvement of humbled proportions. While their core is developing nicely, it's numbers reduced from 7 to 5. They are still going to put some good numbers up, but they need a solid draft to keep developing to be ready for an S63 push through playoffs. S64 should be a good one. We should at least be ready to make a second round appearance but the regular season should see a 15-20 point increase to their top producers. Unfortunately one of the actives who dropped off was their developing goaltender, a massive hit to any rebuild losing their starter. The SMJHL is a cruel world, it's hard for some teams to stay on track. I am excited to see our top line come together as we play the season with our 350 TPE builds

Requirements: 150+ words.

Creller is spending his offseason playing Rocket League. It's a slow offseason when you are out early and the rest of playoffs aren't exciting to you. The draft is approaching and Eddie has had a few conversations with GM's but there have been no indications of where he might end up on draft day. He has a list of a few teams that he would like to play for but he wants to win a cup in the SMJHL first before he worries about where he is playing in 3 seasons. Yes he will get drafted, but there are a few seasons until he actually joins the team that determines if he makes the roster, or gets moved for other pieces. That's the way it is in the SHL, sometimes the best move is to bring in pieces that are ready to push for a cup instead of a player you can't use right away

Task #13 - 1-4 TPE
Answer up to 4 of these prompts, each one being worth 1 TPE for 50+ words each.
A. Which player from either team has the best name in this series (just the name itself, nothing to do with the player themselves).
B. The NEwfoundland Berserkers have lost the opening two games of this series. How can they turn it around?
C. You're in another timeline where Quebec and Colorado are the two cup finalists. What went right for them in this timeline's playoffs compared to ours where they lost in the semi finals?
D. We've been talking about the playoffs, but it's performance throughout the season that helped get our finalists into the playoffs. Who was the key player to success for either team (or both) during the regular season and why?

A) Tommy Tightpants. It was close between Tommy and Pasta the Turtle but imagining someone skating around the ice in Lulu's is plain hilarious. He would distract the other team with his glutes before giving the cheeks a quick flex as he toe drags around them. Blocking shots would probably hurt, but he can use the Turtle as a shield.

B) Spoiler: They didn't. Newfoundland probably should have focused on scoring more goals than the opposition. 100% of games are won when one team scores more than the other. You can't argue with advanced statistics like that. If Newfoundland were able to at least prevent Vancouver from scoring as much, they would have a better chance at scoring more than them.

C) As I said in prompt 1, Creller joined the Citadelles. In this universe it was Creller being the difference maker as the Citadelles trounced the Berserkers. While facing Colorado the Citadelles fire on all cylinders with the force of 1000 earthworms. It is still a 7 game series but Quebec just couldn't get a tee time until after the date for Game 7, so they figured they may as well just play hockey

D) Ragnar Ragnarsson deserves credit. with under 12 minutes on ice a game, putting up 38 points is quite the feat. Without Ragnarsson putting in work deep in the lineup the regular season might have been a different story for the Whalers. Not by much, but they would have lost a couple more games

Quote:Big Man did very well in this first season of his in the Simulation Minor Junior Hockey League (S M J H L). Big Man would say that expectations were very low coming in to this season, but the results were grander than expected. I like the locker room I am in and the teammates that I have and the general managers I have and the alumni in the locker room and the performance of my player and the performance of my team. I will say it was a bit strange to miss the playoffs despite having a record to be second in ever single other division. That is okay though, Big Man does hold a grudge and next season he will be as swift and powerful as a wrecking ball. There will be no prisoners left behind when the Big Man is on the ice. The rest of the SMJHL should start hiding before Velky finds them.
158 words

Task 1 14/16
Quote:If I weren't playing for my current team, I would say confidently that I would be on the Whalers. This is clearly because they were the champions and Velky is a born champion. You see being a champion is in your genes, you're born with it, it's definitely not maibeliene (or however you spell that hair product). Velky would easily slide into the roster as every roster can use a 288 tpe defenseman. I play better than replacement level and that's all you need not to be a detriment to the team. Because I am above replacement level I would say that I help their chances at winning the cup (because they already won the cup) and since the level of performance they had was already good enough that would mean that my level which does not harm their current performance would actually elevate it into essentially another cup win. Velky is a whaler because he is a champion, and whalers are champions because they have velky (in this scenario).
170 words

Task 14 16/16
Quote:The three keys to the whalers winning the 4 star cup are this. They scored more goals than newfoundland, they won more games than newfoundland, and they allowed less goals than newfoundland. Although it may not be super apparent, but scoring more goals than the other team is crucial in winning a game. This surprises many, especially winnepeg fans. Another crucial activity is saving shots, also known as denying goals, or allowing less goals than the other team. This is how you score more goals, by allowing fewer. Finally these previous keys lead to match wins, which is the most important thing in a series. With more match wins you win the series and the cup!

Mikko Rashford

+3 TPE Milestones

+3 TPE Task #1 (160 Words)

If I was not playing for the Newfoundland Berserkers, I would most likely be playing for the Colorado Raptors.   They were another team that showed serious interest in me as a player in the S61 SMJHL Draft where there seemed to be a good fit.  As an offensive defenseman, I could have taken over power play duties of the Raptors team and could have been a difference maker come playoffs as I led all Defenders in goals and points during the playoffs.  This impact in the playoffs would have been felt as the team seemed to be very close to beating Vancouver Whalers in their playoff matchup and often held leads only to lose them in very close 1 goal games.  Getting past Vancouver would have been a huge help as the Whalers went on to win the Cup, as well, Newfoundland would have also been without Rashford which could have helped them win the Finals.  Ultimately a timeline untravelled.

+3 TPE Task #6 (197 Words)

My Dream Team would be a very Berserker heavy roster, but since I need to include both teams, I'll add in a Whaler too.
Left Wing - Lev Lebedev - Simply put, Lev knows how to put the puck in the net.  34 Goals on the season and a beautiful plus minus ratios.  You can rely on Lev to produce offensively each and every game, no matter regular season or the playoffs.
Centre - Robert Black - There is no one in the league who puts up more points in less game time than Robert Black.  Only 2 points off the lead league while playing an entire 2 minutes less than the leader, Black is a game changer and is a must have on ANY Dream Team.
Right Wing - Evil AllBran - Another offensively gifted player, my dream team would not be complete without the Down Under Dangler.  Every team needs a bit of Australia.
Left Defense - Mikko Rashford - Duh?
Right Defense - Saborro Toretta - All Time Leader in points by a D, yes please!
Goalie - Evgeni Petrov - arguably the best goalie in the league, gave the Zerks every chance they could to win in the Finals.  I've got full trust in Reno!

+3 TPE Task #8 (163 Words)

I believe that my first season far exceeded my expectations.  In the regular season, I was able to put up respectable third pair D stats while also leading the Berserkers Powerplay as our Quarterback Defender.  In the playoffs though I absolutely exceeded expectations.  I was able to finish among the leaders in the playoffs without playing in the first round of playoffs.  Tied for first in goals while top 5 in points, I couldn't have asked for better personal stats.  On a team with 8 rookies, we were not expected to compete for a 4 Star Cup, but low and behold we made it to the finals only to be beat out by a very well deserving team.  Going into the offseason I am looking to complete my 350 TPE build which should help me round out my game to be better at both ends of the ice.  This should allow me to better perform for my team right from the get go.

+3 TPE Task #12 (167 Words)

Mikko Rashford is a free-flowing, easy watching, offensive guru ready to lead your teams future offensive.  Gifted with good hands, a knack for finding the open player, and a desire to score each game, Rashford has what it takes to beat the oppositions goalie every time they take the ice.  No slouch in their own end, Rashford has a knack for knocking pucks loose in battles and quickly getting the puck up the ice.  Rashford also brings a strong attention to detail, a great work ethic off the ice, and strong leadership skills that bode well into future roles of importance within an organization.  Look for Rashford to be the game-changing defender that all teams will have near the top of their draft board.  Should potential GMs be concerned with the rookie? well only time can tell.  There are no guarantees in life other than death and taxes.  Could Rashford be the cornerstone of your franchise now and into the future? only one way to find out.

+1 TPE Task #13 C (95 Words)

In this new timeline, Colorado was able to continue to score early in games and hold onto their leads.  They have a great chance to upset the Whalers but simply could not finish each game.  In this new timeline, Quebec was finally able to get past Petrov in overtime, though the original timeline had the series close, a few early game wins in the series could have heavily shaped the outcome in their favor.  My prediction, Quebec beating Colorado in 6 games as both offensively gifted teams took turns battering the oppositions goalie each night.

Task #1

If Dirty Boots was not currently playing for the Detroit Falcons, He would be playing for the Newfoundland Berserkers. The biggest reason for this would be because Boots is from Newfoundland and would want to help bring a Four Star Cup back to his home. What better way to win an SMJHL championship than at home while playing for the home team! The Newfoundland Berserkers are already a standout team and have already established themselves as champions by winning the Four Star Cup in season 60. In order for Dirty Boots to be helpful to the Newfoundland Berserkers,  I believe he would need to slot in a third pairing and use his defensive skills to shut down the Vancouver Whalers offence while looking for a breakout pass for team mates to score a breakaway goal. I believe that with the with the Newfie playing on the home team, this would increase the Berserkers chance of winning. Boots’ defensive and offensive abilities alone would make a great reliable addition on the third pair but he would also help in getting the fans going knowing there’s a true Newfie on the ice as well as in the stands.

Task #3

The Detroit Falcons have a special treat for their fans during fan appreciation night this season. This season fans can expect to receive a special Bobble Butt figure of their favorite goal tender Hugh Jass! That’s right! A Hugh Jass Bobble Butt figure! Hugh Jass has been absolutely HUGE in every game this season keeping the Falcons in it until the very end. What better way to commemorate his greatness than with your very own Bobble Butt Figurine! Come early enough and get the exclusive net display case to keep your Hugh Jass in! This Bobble Butt figure will be available for one night only so be sure to make it to the game!

Task #4

Hello Sports Fans! In today’s Column we are looking at the matchup in net between two amazing goalies in the Simulation Major Junior Hockey League and how they square up against each other! That’s right we’re looking at Olof Karsikko of the Vancouver Whalers and Nor Dekes of the Quebec City Citadels. Karsikko and Dekes are only a win apart heading into the playoffs and each have big expectations from their teams. Dekes has faced more shots during the season and could arguably be number one in terms of stats but Karsikko sits at the top with his extra win. If it comes down directly to the goalie to win games I’m putting money on Dekes to take it home. They’re clearly able to get the job done without their defense in front of them. But if Quebec is going to leave their goalie out to dry all playoffs than maybe they won’t be the favorite to take the cup this year. We’ll see if it’s the reliable defense getting the job done or if these goalies truly are superstars.

Task #5

The Detroit Falcons are incredibly thankful to their fan base and proud to be part of Detroit! As a way to give back to the community, the Detroit Falcons partnered with the Simulation Major Junior Hockey League are proud to be supporting and raising money for the LGBTQ+ community of Detroit! The Falcons will be organizing a twenty four hour gaming marathon designed to raise awareness, share stories and interact with the community. The SMJHL has approved the Falcons to allow a twenty four hour stream starting at 8AM EST during the event. During the stream, all of your Detroit Falcons will be participating in playing games with fans, speaking with members and representatives of the LGBTQ+ community as well as hearing from fans either through a live chat on the stream as well as taking calls to hear their stories if they are willing to share! The stream will be moderated in order to create a safe environment for everyone. The Falcons also intend on having prizes every hour to give away to fans as well as possible goal achievements. Be sure to tune in and play along with your Detroit Falcons as we celebrate the LGBTQ+ community!

Task #6

A dream team would be easily acquired if the Newfoundland Berserkers and the Vancouver Whalers are the teams to pick from!
The superstar forward line would consist of:
Robert Black, Center, 81 points.
Lev Lebedev, Left Winger, 75 points
Robot Sunfish, Right Winger, 61 Points

Robert Black, superstar center of the Berserkers, could support the Vancouver Whalers wingers Lebedev and Sunfish. Expect Black to put on a playmaking show while Lebedev and Sunfish tuck the puck to the back of the net. It would be unfair to the rest of the league to have these forwards lined up together.

The superstar defense lineup would be:
NeverBrokeAgain YoungBoy, Right Defenseman, 60 points
Sabarro Torreta, Left Defenseman, 51 points

YoungBoy’s offensive skills on the blue line would easily compliment the crazy offense from the forwards, meanwhile Torreta, who can easily hold his own in offense as well, would be crushing opposing players throwing hits on anyone they see.

Finally, the goalie to keep the pucks out would be:
Olof Karsikko
Olof held his own this season with 42 wins and an amazing 0.913% save percentage. With Karsikko in net, the superstar forwards and defenseman would have the confidence needed to give it all they’ve got.

Task #7

During the SMJHL playoffs, I believe that if the matchups had been slightly different, the results would have changed. The Quebec City Citadels could have been matched up against anybody and won. They were a very strong team coming into the playoffs and proved that by being a tough match for the Newfoundland Berserkers in the Semi Finals. Had the Detroit Falcons faced another team like the St. Louis Scarecrow, not only would it have been a great rivalry matchup but the Falcons would have put up a tough fight and may have even taken them to seven games and won the series. I also believe that Regina and Anaheim would have made for a great matchup as well. Regina failed to win a game against Kelowna so if they were two weaker teams they may have had different results. Anchorage and Kelowna both won their series so it would have been interesting to see who of the two could have come out on top of that series. That leaves us with Great Falls versus Quebec City. Both teams won their series and I believe they would have made for a very competitive matchup. With these matchups in mind, I believe it would have gone like this:

Detroit vs St. Louis - Detroit wins
Regina vs Anaheim - Regina Wins
Anchorage vs Regina - Kelowna Wins
Great Falls vs Quebec City - Quebec City Wins

Task #8

My very first season in the Simulation Major Junior Hockey League has been completed and overall I believe that I performed very well for a true rookie here! I came into the league hoping to log decent minutes and to get as many assists as possible and to overall contribute to the team without being too much of a liability. I feel like I’ve achieved nearly all of that!

At the start of the season I was falling behind defensively but as I grew every week I was able to become more reliable in my end. Once I started becoming more reliable, I started getting more points as well. I was able to reach thirty six points in my first season, 26 assists and 10 goals. The 26 assists was enough to make me 3rd in assists on the team which was a great accomplishment! I was also third on the team in shots blocked with 114, only 3 points behind the two leaders tied at 117. With only seven power play points I’d really like to improve there, especially if I aim to quarterback the first power play group.

Task #9

My favorite series of the playoffs this season was the Detroit Falcons versus the Quebec City Citadels. It may be because I’m on the Detroit team but I truly believe it was a great series that had even more great potential.

The Falcons came into the playoffs with very low expectations and they ended up squaring off against one of the top teams in the league. Game one ended with a Quebec City win. Game two ended with another Quebec City win. Game three ended in, surprise, another Quebec City win. Game four was for sure to be the sweep but Detroit came to life. They beat Quebec City in game four. They stood their ground and beat them again in game five! It was starting to look like a huge upset. Game six was incredibly close. Hugh Jass was amazing in net but unfortunately it wasn’t quite enough before Quebec eventually found the back of the net to end it. For a team that struggled through the season they definitely made things exciting!

Task #10

The Detroit Falcons were eliminated from the first round of the Simulation Major Junior Hockey League. Despite the loss there are no frowny faces in Detroit. They didn’t go down without a fight and that definitely says something about the future of the team.

There were many rookies on the team this year that made a statement. A new defenseman in Dirty Boots who is able to contribute to the offense as well as keep things shut down defensively. A very bright Right winger in Akashi SixNine Jr who tallied 40 points in the season showing they can also contribute to the team offensively. Detroit also has a machine in Vasily Arkhangelsky. Vasily absolutely crushed his opponents with 175 points which is enough for second in the SMJHL. A major accomplishment from a rookie looking to throw fists and body! Detroit also has more reliable center depth with Rodrigo Rivic. Rivic had a fantastic start to his career with twenty six points. Another huge piece and possibly the biggest asset would be Hugh Jass. Jass has kept this team in games they didn’t deserve to be in. Jass had the highest shots against in the league but was still able to put up a fantastic save percentage! If the Falcons can become more stable defensively there’s no doubt that with Jass in net they can become champions.

Detroit has the first overall pick in the upcoming draft and will be adding more to their already bright future. With their solid existing core there’s no doubt that the Detroit Falcons will be on the rise and will be a contending team very soon.

Task #11

Although the Detroit Falcons didn’t make it past the first round this season, Boots is still finding ways to develop and look forward to the SHL draft. Boots is getting more accustomed to the league and how things are done. This would include getting familiar with all the possible destinations to get drafted to in the SHL and what their needs are. In some cases Boots is also looking at the history of the teams and who would be a good fit for his style and level of play. Once Boots has done the research and has taken a healthy break from skates and stick work, Boots will be hitting up the gym on a regular basis to get stronger and faster as well as looking at idols and role models that he’d like to model his game after. Boots will be hitting up his local arena and getting some off season coaching done to work on skills that will make them a more reliable defenseman as well as hand eye coordination to make the quarterback passes that really count. One of Boots’ goals is to quarterback a power play group. In order to help accomplish that goal, Boots will be watching video of himself in order to fix mistakes made during play as well as watching video of successful power plays and how he can fit that success into his own game.

Your team is giving back to their supporters by holding a fan appreciation day for one of their games, where the team will hand out a special commemorative item to show thanks for their continued support of the franchise. You have been tasked to design the product to be given out to the attendees (can be a rally towel, foam finger, bobble head, etc.)
Requirements:
- WRITTEN: Write a 100 word blurb about the item, including details on during which game was / will be given out.

The Citadelles handed out owl plushies at their 5th game of the year, against the Detroit Falcons. The plushies were especially beloved by the children that attended, but who doesn't love a free plushie? The owls were snowy owls with the Citadelles' logo emblazoned on their chests, and whose wings flapped when you squeezed them. There were many wings flapping that night, after the QCC goal scored in the 1st period, the two goals scored in the 2nd, and even a few sportmanship flaps for the Detroit goal scored in the 3rd. It's great to win a home game, but it's even better to do it surrounded by owls. [109 words]

The St. Louis Scarecrows always eat a team breakfast before any game. Rookie Viktor Anderson has thrown a wrench in those plans. Still on Latvian time, the winger slept in and missed team breakfast each of the team's 4 losses. No matter if they were on the road or at home, he was impossible to wake. On the other hand, Great Falls Grizzlies does team dinners the night before games. For each of their losses, goalie Brick Wall had ordered something he hadn't liked. The night before their 7th game in the series, GFG players had begged Brick Wall to play it safe and order a favorite. [107 words]

You just played out your very first season in the SMJHL to start a new chapter in your career. Overall, how would you say you performed in your rookie season? Did you meet expectations you set for yourself individually? What do you need to improve on for next season?
Requirements: 150+ words.

I'm incredibly happy with my first season in the SMJHL. Coming from Norway, I think people didn't expect a lot of me as an ice hockey player, so I had to prove yourself every step of the way. Playing U18 in Canada was a great way to prepare, especially after being picked up by Quebec. It's great to be on a team with talented veterans and coaches and GMs who know what they're doing and are willing to work with players to reach their potential. For next season, I hope to work on my shot accuracy and possession - I had too many shots that went right into pads, and too many giveaways. I'm better at passing than shooting, and happy to keep it that way, but it would be fun to give Captain Cooper a run for his money - even though he fully deserved the records he's made this season. Write a pre-draft scout report on your player from the perspective of a journalist covering the prospects of the S61 draft class. What do possible SHL suitors have to be excited (or perhaps wary?) about when it comes to potentially drafting your player?
Requirements: 150+ words.

Fiske is a rare talent to come out of Norway. In his rookie season, he did a great job of finding open ice and getting the puck to his teammates' stick. Quite the quick skater, the winger excelled on the offense, able to identify open lanes on the ice and occasionally take advantage of a scoring opportunity. Fiske has had a few opportunities to show his worth in faceoffs, and with some improvement could ensure his team the puck. What the Norwegian is lacking is his defense - he's simply not a two-way forward. He's given up the puck more often than he's been able to take it, and he needs to be able to read his opponents better. That being said, the kid is still young and has improved so much just in the past season. He's great at taking criticism and using it to improve his game, and when his teammates are looking for someone who's open he's always ready. [162 words]

A. Which player from either team has the best name in this series (just the name itself, nothing to do with the player themselves).

A. I like fish names, especially on a team called the Whalers, so it's gonna be Strawberry Sailfish. Robot Sunfish is a good name, but Starberry Sailfish is more evocative and really cute. Sounds like it came right out of Strawberry Shortcake. Whoever the render is, I'll always picture a strawberry cake with fins. [53 words]
C. This is my kind of timeline. I think the QCC were missing their regular season superstars - big scorers like Kappa Kappa and Alfred Yankovic just didn't do as well during the playoffs. For the Raptors, you really have the same issue. Top scorer Rinky McDangle earned only 5 points in 9 games. The stars struggled and so the teams did as well. [63 words]
D. For the Whalers, it's obviously Lev Lebedev. The winger placed 3rd overall in points, 3rd overall in goals, and 5th overall in assist during the regular season. The Zerks have Robert Black, who didn't score a ton of goals (11th overall) but was 2nd overall in points and led the league in assists. [53 words]

Task 1 (3 TPE)

It would be a tough choice to decide which other team would be the best fit for Jones, if he was not in Regina. What would he be looking for? More play time? Easier path to success? All valid reasons to go to certain teams. At the end of the day I think Jones would have ended up at his father’s alma mater in the Kelowna Knights. Kelowna was a team that fought for a 7th overall finish this past season. They are a team that had very good depth but I believe Jones would bring some sandpaper to their 3rd line as they let him develop. Based on his end of season stats he would have led Kelowna in hits and 5th in points. The problem? He would have led the team in Pims (by a mle) and would have lost 3 minutes of average time on ice, when compared with Kelowna’s current line three center. They would certainly have cut into some of his totals but come playoff time he would have shined for this team.

Task 3 (2 TPE) -

The official Regina Elk Antlers will be sold all season long at The Buck Stop Store! Be sure to get yours customized with your favorite player!

Task 8 (3 TPE) -

What a first season it was for Jones in Regina. Overall a success, but still many things to work on. Regina was a team that was going to struggle defensively and that will be the focus of improvement for Jones as he heads into year two. Along with that, he needs to learn to pick his moments for fights after going 0-7 and be more disciplined as he led the team in penalty minutes by a very large margin. It wasn't all negative though. He came in the league known for his offensive and physical play and he delivered with 152 hits and he was 4th on the team with 39 points. If Jones can improve on the weaknesses from last season he can surely take full advantage of wat should be line one icetime this coming season, but also lead Regina as they look to improve on year one and make it deeper into the playoffs.

Task 11 (3 TPE) -

It's been a busy offseason for Jones, after his debut year with the newly minted Regina Elk. After a disappointing four game sweep at the hands of the Kelowna Knights, Elk players all went their separate ways for the offseason, determined to return better for next year. Jones was invited to the World Junior Championships as part of Team DACH’s roster. Jones fit in well in his first trip to the tournament. He provided 2 goals and unfortunately DACH was eliminated by Finland in round one of the elimination rounds.Jones has spent the rest of his offseason with his newborn son. He was called back early to help the team navigate some rough waters as a change in leadership has made the team need to start fresh going into their second season. As the Elk move forward into the new year Jones looks to help lead his team to a more successful season and hopefully a deeper trip in the playoffs.

Task 13 (3 TPE) -

A) That honor has to go to Markus “The Tater” Jager. Not only because he is Jones’ fellow German brother, but because not many players get a true nickname added to their player in this league and it's always fun to watch a player develop a nickname over their career and just have fun with it.

B) Newfoundland has fought hard to get here and I'm sure they would rather be anywhere but here right now after going 2 games down to start the series. They need to regroup as they head home and make sure they take full advantage of the home fans. They have had trouble slowing Vancouver's top scorers and until they can contain them, each game will be a shootout to the finish.

D) Honestly after their performance in the season i still think this was Vancouver’s cup to lose. They decimated the pack this regular season and boats four 60+ scorers with two of them being over a point per game. Newfoundland was no slouch either. Third in the league with a consensus MVP candidate in Robert Black, who finished with 81 points! Both teams earned their way to this final.

If you weren't playing for your current team, which team would you most like to be playing for in the playoffs. Explain why you chose that team and how you think you'd slot into their roster. Would your player make a big impact on the team? Would you improve their chances of winning a cup?
Requirements: 150+ words.

Regina. I would be playing for Regina. I thought I would be playing for Regina as it was, actually. I am on a streak with my player going first overall in the SMJHL Entry Draft. The thing is, Regina is the team that won the lottery for that pick and had every opportunity to take me. They opted against it, and sure they can justify it as they made the playoffs and the Maine Timber where I actually went did not. However, Maine was arguably screwed out of it and was inarguably a better team than Regina in every conceivable way. That is thanks to me, and thanks to my impact on the team. I have given them a winner's mentality, and now it will just be about getting them to continue to challenge.

I'm just saying, a top line center such as myself is a difference maker for a team, and Regina absolutely could have used that and opted against it. That's on them for choosing that, but it may have cost them from being one of the best and most motivated teams out the gate.

WRITTEN: 150+ words

I'm going to make a pretty obvious choice from the outset here and pick up Robert Black from Newfoundland. Why am I doing that? Hmm, let's see. Maybe because he's one of my top prospects as the general manager of Manhattan and I know he's going to be an absolute superstar in this league? Or maybe because he's been one of the best scorers in the SMJHL in the past few seasons and possibly is one of the best scorers to ever grace the SMJHL? It could be any of those, but ultimately it's that you need talent and there is nobody with more talent than Robert Black.

After him, I'm picking up Evil AllBran also from Newfoundland. The guy is literally Evil, and if I know anything about this league, it is Evil. He'll fit perfectly. To round out their line and to make up for the evil, I'm grabbing Robot Sunfish, who is just a fantastic person even though he may not be the greatest earner.

On defense I'm making another obvious grab in both spots and making it Landon Fischermann and Pasta the Turtle. These are two of the best and most fascinating players in the SMJHL. They have so much skill that it would be impossible to beat them as a duo.

Now with three from Newfoundland and two from Vancouver, let's ease into it with an even grouping by taking up Olof Karsikko from Vancouver to man the net as one of the best young goaltenders in the league today.

So your team just got eliminated these playoffs, and have to look forward to next season where hopefully things go differently. What does your team have to be excited about for next season, where they'll have another go at the coveted 4-star cup?
Requirements: 150+ words.

Me. It's all about me, haven't you figured this out by now? I mean, obviously not, but still.

Maine has been out of the playoffs for a while, considering we were one of two teams to not make it at all. This is unfortunate, it's sad, and it really bummed us out. And that's okay. Maine was a team in some turmoil early in the season with an absolute insane person in the locker room driving division throughout the team and then ultimately bringing us together at just the right time. The Timber are perfectly set up for next season as they only graduate one regular from the roster in Bloody Oath, and he already was splitting time at best with Rusty Remao. Meanwhile the team continues to develop, seeing players like Jay Cue and Archangelo Scaradog Jr. hitting the next level cap and seing players like Krunk, Aittokallio and Muz likely to hit the 350 cap as they enter their second seasons in the league. This team has a lot to look forward to.

Requirements: 150+ words.

There is a pedigree here that would make anybody salivate. If I wasn't automatically picked to Manhattan as it was, I would be the most sought after prospect possibly in the history of this league. And that's for good reason, there is nobody as good as an Aittokallio. Nobody.

Jesper was the cog that made the motor for Maine move forward, and he sure did. This team went from being a laughingstock of the league to being a respectable team that just had unfortunate events happen to it and is mostly hated. I forgot to mention that I am extremely hated by the jealous people of the SMJHL and the jealous GMs who can't handle how much better I am. This is fine, and expected.

Jesper is a great facilitator, with the ability to work the puck around from behind the net and with incredible vision and planning to make things happen in limited space. He worked amazingly well with Big Newff and Archangelo Scaradog Jr. and showed to have a great feel for the game. That is sure to develop more in the SHL and he should be an all-star caliber player in no time.

Oh this is obvious, Pasta the Turtle is the greatest name possibly in the entire SMJHL at this point. There are contenders from other teams, but nobody in the Finals is as great as Pasta and especially so when you know the background of how the name came to be. Not wanting to expose him, I will just say it's an adorable and incredible player name.

LW - Lev Lebedev - This is a player who finished 3rd in the regular season in goals with 34, and 3rd in playoff points. An offensive star like this must be included in any dream team.
C - Robert Black - An easy pick at centre is Robert Black. At 81 points this year he was second only to Québec’s Greyson Cooper. With 56 assists, he would be perfect in setting up Lebedev on the wing.
RW - Robot Sunfish - We’ll go with another goal scorer, giving Black another option to pass to. Good amount of goals, points, and also great defensive stats this season, Sunfish provides a well rounded presence on the right side.
LD - Mikko Rashford - On left defense, Rashford provides some more offense to the lineup. After a solid rookie season, Rashford went on to lead all defensemen in points in these playoffs with 15 in only 14 games.
RD - Pasta the Turtle - Because we have enough offense in the rest of the lineup, I’m opting for more of a defensive defenseman on the right side. Lots of blocks and hits from this player will keep the team well rounded.
G - Olof Karsikko - Probably the best of the four goaltenders in the finals, Karsikko provides some stability in goal.

I would say I’m generally pretty satisfied with how my first season went. My goal was to work on my playmaking and defensive skills, and while I’d like to be a more consistent threat offensively, I was pretty good in my own end, at least. I finished third on my team in blocked shots with 108 despite limited ice time. I did not give the puck away a lot, and my plus/minus rating was not terrible for a team that finished third last. Offensively I think I was hoping for a bit more, but the team as a whole did not score a lot either. I think as long as I get all the TPE I can get, I can continue to build on my performance this season by working on some of my offensive skills. Some of Regina’s top players are also aging out this season, meaning I have the chance to fight for more ice time and hopefully get the chance to make a bigger impact for the team going forward.

Task #10 - 3 TPE
So your team just got eliminated these playoffs, and have to look forward to next season where hopefully things go differently. What does your team have to be excited about for next season, where they'll have another go at the coveted 4-star cup?
Requirements: 150+ words.

Being one of the two new expansion teams heading into the season, I don’t think the Regina Elk had very high expectations. That being said, finishing where we did was not all bad, even if the record does not look great. Sadly, some of our top players will be moving on to their big clubs next season, leaving some big gaps to fill on our top lines. Next season will probably be a tough one for the team, but there is still plenty to look forward to. The young players on this team seem very committed, and having been very diligent in earning their TPE. Add to that a 3rd overall draft pick in the upcoming draft, and some chances to find some talent in the later rounds, I think the Elk’s future will be very bright. Also, the team will also be under new management this time around. The past management team did a great job at setting us up for the future, and the new GM should provide a fresh outlook for the coming season.

A. For me the best name in the finals this year was definitely Evil Allbran. Especially because I believe that all All-Bran is evil to begin with, so imagining an evil version of that is really funny to me. I even included this player in my food themed all star team from one of the previous progression tasks. (57 words)
B. Well, as I’m writing this after the finals have finished, there is of course nothing they can do to turn it around. But realistically I’m not sure there was much they could have done either, as Vancouver just seemed like too dominant of a team this year. I would have probably wanted a bit more production from some of Newfoundland’s top forwards, as they did not score as many goals as I think they would have been expected to. Especially since the team was led by a rookie defenseman in point scoring these playoffs. (94 words)
C. For Québec, it’s tough because it seems like a lot of their players actually did quite well these playoffs. In an alternate timeline, maybe Greyson Cooper scores at the same pace as he did in the regular season, as this would have gotten him 12 goals as opposed to 6. Their goaltender Nor Dekes also had a slight drop in form in the playoffs, so that could also have affected their chances of progressing to the finals.
Colorado, in an alternate timeline, was playing a worse team than Vancouver. I mean Vancouver was just way too dominant of a team, and I think Colorado could have beaten anyone else in these playoffs. Their goaltender played quite well, so I would say that maybe their offense could have turned it on a bit more in the playoffs for them to make it to the finals. (144 words)
D. I usually like giving more credit to defensive performances than most people, but for both of these teams it was a forward who was key to their success in the regular season. For Vancouver, Lev Lebedev filled the opposition’s nets on a consistent basis, resulting with a spectacular 34 goals in 66 games. Meanwhile in Newfoundland, Robert Black led the league with 56 assists, proving to be an integral part of the Berserkers’ success this season. (76 words)

Task #6 - 3 TPE
LW - Maxwell King: With 241 shots on the season, get a guy on this line that is willing to shoot the puck.  With the other 2 linemates he won’t have to do much, just set up and shot my friend.

C – Robert Black: Finished the season 2nd in points and led the league with 56 assists and will be nominated for MVP.  Robby here will drive this line being the fulcrum between two elite players.

RW – Leo Lebedev: Had to include another likely MVP nominee, and Lebedev shoots right so we can move him to the right side providing Black with another lethal shooting option.

LD - Sven Svechnikov: This steady Swedish rear guard lead the league in +/-, has a good presence in the D-zone and has a elite ability to make the outlet passes.

RD - Jannik Nordstern: Another defenseman on the +/- leaderboard, this hard hitting defenseman from the Berserkers will combine with Svechnikov to make a rock solid top pairing.

G - Olof Karsikko: For my goalie, I’ll take the man from Vancouver.  He played almost all their games throughout their championship season, and lead the league in both wins and shutouts.  A no brainer here.

Task #8 - 3 TPE
My player had a first rookie season just as I had expected.  I was hoping to establish as a d-first, faceoff, and PK specialized type of center, and was not hoping or expecting to be a high-end rookie or top prospect.  Ending the season with a 53% in the dot and averaging 1:18 minutes on the penalty kill, is nothing spectacular but fine for a rookie season.  Only 16 points, I had fairly average feelings with my players statistical performance, but it was acceptable… until I got to Task 16 and wish I had 8 more blocked shots.  What I am happy with is the TPE growth, I choose to keep the major training until the end of the season.  The second half of the season saw my player string together a few weeks with significant TPE growth and this feels like my player has developed from rookie into a second year player setting him up for a strong sophomore season.

Task #11 - 3 TPE
Ole Gordie subscribes to the work hard play hard theory.  Soon as that last game ended and the Regina Elks were eliminated, he was on a plane to Cabo, all inclusive resort, it’ll be all margaritas and tequila shots on the beach for a few weeks. Really got unwind and use up that rookie contract money.  Once Gordie has had enough he’ll hang his head and drag his hungover body back home, where he’ll spend the rest of the summer on the lake with the boys. Driving double cheese burgers, drinking 15 miller lite’s and waving to other boaters as they pass each other. He’ll have too take a mini break to find some wifi and check to see where he got drafted as well as talk to his new GM or any media.  Once all that is over with it’ll be back in the gym just in time for training camp, that’s why we have training camps right, to get in shape?

If I wasn't a member of the Anaheim Outlaws, I would most like to have played for the Regina Elk in the playoffs. They were another team that I was interested in during the scouting and pre-draft process, and I really enjoy a lot of their users (TMo, Teyon, Blas, and OD especially). If I played for that team, I wouldn't have been expected to play on one of the top lines as a steadily growing but relatively low TPE player, so I think it would have been a smoother transition for me. I don't know that I would have made a huge difference for the team on the ice, although I would have been an improvement on some of their lower lines. Off the ice, I typically serve as a solid LR presence and help encourage others to match my earning, so I may have helped elevate the team and some of the lower TPE players in that manner.

Task #6 - 3 points
Here's my Challenge Cup Finals Dream Team! Interestingly, it happened to turn out that my entire offense would be from Vancouver, and my defense would be from Newfoundland. These picks are based on the users behind the players Smile

F: Giannis Kroustis - AirCrou is a great user across his leagues and holds many league jobs as well. We will get a chance to be teammates once I am called up to Providence in the PBE!

F: Markrus "The Tater" Jager - We signed tater on waivers in the DSFL and loved having him around the locker room. A great earner and great user Smile

F: Robot Sunfish - youggarius is one of my favorite sim league users, a super nice guy who knows his stuff and is always willing to help out! He is a member of the Colorado Yeti, who my player was drafted to in the ISFL.

D: Mikko Rashford - RashfordU has had an outstanding rookie campaign and puts out a ton of media. I've had the pleasure of talking with him quite a bit recently about the WJC and IIHF, and would love to team up with him in the future!

D: SD Core - SDCore has a ton of sim league experience and is another Colorado Yeti and I enjoy chatting with. He has tremendous insight, notably on the history of the leagues.

G: Evgeni Petrov - Reno is an awesome all-around user who always brings fun to the chat!

Task #8 - 3 Points
Coming into my rookie season, I had pretty high expectations for myself. As the 4th overall pick, I knew I would be relied on to play well right from the drop of the puck. Looking at the typical stats of goals and assists, I would say I did not meet my own expectations. My scoring and shooting accuracy was pretty poor, as I finished with just 6 goals. This is definitely the thing I'm working most on moving forwards, and I am actually moving into a sniper role for Anaheim next season. I did lead the team with 19 assists, but I will certainly be looking to add to both of those stat categories next season and beyond. In the less popular stats, I did end up leading my team in takeaways with 39, so I've shown myself to be valuable on both ends of the ice. While my rookie year wasn't up to par for my own expectations, I have no doubt I will deliver next season.

Task #13 - 4 Points
A: The best name from the Finals teams has to be Mikko Rashford. Even as a Chelsea fan, I have to give props to someone who alludes to a soccer player in their player name! Marcus Rashford has been seen as a young star in the Premier League, and using the name Rashford paints this picture of a budding star in the SMJHL as well.

B: Newfoundland lost the first two games of the series in tight affairs, losing by one goal in each game. The key to getting back on track would have been to return to their scoring form (they averaged 3.71 goals per game during the regular season), as we know that Vancouver can score nearly at will. The strat would have needed to be to simply outgun them, but unfortunately, that did not come to fruition.

C: For Colorado, their offense kept the offensive firepower and momentum from their 8-3 win. We've already discussed the firepower that Vancouver has, and Colorado needed to outgun them, but couldn't quite pull it off. For Quebec, it was the opposite, as they needed their defense to step up a bit more than they did. While their potent offense generally delivered, they lost a number of close games as their defense couldn't quite keep the Zerks out of the net enough.

D: For Newfoundland, despite impressive offensive numbers, it was their goaltending that was the key. They were able to split their goalie starts nearly evenly, and didn't drop off at all when playing their backup (their goalies posted a 2.08 and 2.44 GAA), which is super impressive, especially in the J. The nod goes to Evgeni Petrov if I can only choose one, as he started 8 more games. For Vancouver, it's gotta be the offense, and specifically their leading scorer, Lev Lebedev, who finished with 34 goals and 41 assists and helped lead his team to a championship.

Task #5
Ty Murphy had the privilege of helping and volunteering for Sister to Sister, an agency in Detroit that aims to assist women who are in domestically violent situations.  They do this through their four step program, the steps include engaging these women by getting them to a safe environment, empowering them by building a strong emotional foundation when they are ready, enhancing these women’s lives by helping them integrate back into society, and finally encouraging them and all other women to step forward and help end the cycle of domestic violence.  Ty not only donated money to this organization, but also spent every Saturday of the season working with the individuals who run the program.  The success he saw in these women’s lives was enough for him to continue to donate and to plan on donating throughout his entire career to this wonderful organization.  He recently helped in the construction of a new women’s shelter, in his most recent endeavor.

Task #7

Unfortunately, due to this part of Detroit’s history, I believe any other matchup would have probably yielded the same results.  I was happy we were able to put up the fight we did against Quebec City Citadels, but nonetheless I believe this team was probably always going to exit in the first round this season.  That being said, I was extremely impressed with the rookies on this team.  Hugh Jass, our rookie goaltender, kept us in games all season.  Sixnine and Von Walther led the league in rookie scoring this season, which is something my player never even came close to.  Dirty Boots has been updating like crazy even with this being his first ever player.  I think Detroit has a beautiful future ahead, especially with its current management team.  They are taking the Falcons in the correct direction.  I predict they will win a cup within the next 3 or 4 seasons, and probably many more to come.

Task #10

This Detroit Falcons have such a bright future, they have to wear shades.  They are one of the teams with multiple active rookies on the roster, in all different positions.  They have multiple active rookie defensemen, a goalie, and several forwards as well.  With the upcoming draft and free agency, I believe the falcons will look to protect the goldmine they find themselves sitting on, and look to add a few more defensemen to the roster.  Once we get the goaltending a little help, we will be unstoppable.  The rookie forwards also need to work a little on their team defense, but that all will come in time.  Our goaltending was phenomenal this year.  Our rookie goaltender had not only the most shots against this year, but also the most saves and one of the best save percentages in the league.  All the rookies had wonderful opportunities to get plenty of ice time, so look for them to come back next season very developed.

Task #11:

This offseason will be no different than any of the others.  Ty Murphy will hit his world renowned hockey fitness routine.  Every day is leg day.  Monday: chest and shoulders, Tuesday: legs all day, Wednesday: shoulders and chest, Thursday: legs all day, Friday: Chest all day.  Weekends are for extreme cardio on top of the cardio that is sprinkled in throughout the week, and there is on ice conditioning every day as well.  People like to obsess over strength, but when you’re playing the minutes Ty Murphy is playing it is hard to maintain that level of muscle.  Cardio has to be on point for this league, and it has never been more apparent than now.  Last season with the amount of players that had to be taken out of games early due to cramps, it almost seemed record breaking.  This offseason will bring Ty Murphy great fortune and success.  Many of his Falcon teammates will join him, further guaranteeing a Falcon Cup this season.

Task #13

D: Robert Black is the clear answer here for Newfoundland.  He led the team in points by a large margin, and was one of the best players in the league in dominating fashion.  If he is not called up this offseason, I am sure he will be back next year to dominate again.  And honestly, good for him.
