The Patriotes have been around for a few seasons now and it was clear from the beginning that they were going to take the long way to a championship. The recent SHL expansion team has gone about their business collecting assets to deepen their prospect pool with as much talent as possible. Their SHL lineup is nothing to be amazed at the moment. They do have some very promising pieces as they build their team from the grassroots up. Jarmo Kekalainen is just now coming into his own at the SHL level. This season will tell a lot about the young forward with tons of potential. Another youth addition just called up to the SHL, is Stan Din’Desque. Entering his first SHL season, he has been highly touted as the next big star in Montreal.

Last Season in the SMJHL, Stan Din’desque played all 66 games. He scored 23 goals and assisted on 44 others. He had a 67 point season ( 7th best in the J ) and finished a +15. It will be a huge ask to keep these numbers up in the SHL for his rookie season. As long as he can stay around the +/- of 0, I think the management team can be happy with that for this rookie on this rebuilding team.

Also Added to the Line-up this season is call-ups, Zak Wilson and Sabarro Torretta. Both these rookies will have a steep learning curve this season as they will be competing against the SHL and some of the elite teams in their division.

Zak Wilson had a great season in SMJHL, His Vancouver Whalers went right to the 4-star cup finals and won it all. The left defenseman had 11 goals and 18 assists. His 29 points aren’t the eye-catching stat. The wild + 39 is an amazing number for a blueliner.  Not the biggest offensive player on the backend, but a solid defensive defenseman is more what you should expect from him, and that is sorely needed in Montreal.

Sabarro Torretta is very different from his defensive counterpart Zak Wilson. Torretta had a solid offensive season in Newfoundland. 15 goals and 36 assists, His 51 points had him 31st in the league in points. Add that to the + 24 he was at the end of the season and Montreal has brought up 2 solid defensemen who will grow to be part of what looks to be a good defense core in the future. That said, the learning curve may be more than they can handle to start the season, and the growing pains may be more than they may want, but will be well worth it in the end.

The 3 additions to the Montreal Patriotes this season will not make them better this season, it is a clear as day "looking to the future move" Montreal has a total of 14 prospects in their system, and most look to be solid picks that will greatly benefit this team down the road. While the present may look bleak, in the next 4-5 seasons we will get to see the growth of what may be the next big SHL power team. Built from the ground up and not through the collection of star players through trades. Time will tell, but the path looks right.
