(GRADED)Deep Dive #2 - Detroit's Future

As the season comes to a close, some teams will start to look towards the playoffs in hopes of being declared champs and lifting the Four Star Cup. Unfortunately for some teams there season will be over as they watch from the bleachers and prepare for the upcoming entry draft. One team that will have high hopes for this draft is the team currently sitting in dead last the Detroit Falcons.

Through this season the Falcons have only been able to win 5 games of their 63 games played so far, with 3 of those wins coming over the Scarecrows. With three games remaining and based on who the Falcons will be playing in those games, it is safe to assume that the Falcons win total will remain at 5. If this is true and the Falcons remain at 5 wins this means that the Falcons will have a win percentage of 0.075 which is absurd to think about. Nothing has been going right for the Falcons as they post a score differential of -169, also the worst in the league. This will be the second season in a rough where the Falcons will finish dead last in the league. There are some bright spots on this team however. One of these bright spots is goaltender Evert Jansson boasting a 0.909 save percentage having faced 2401 shots. Current bright spots also include Akashi SixNine Jr., Vasil Arkhangelsky, and Monsieur Pingy Pingu Lunga Gumba, Esq. who have all been able to put up 30+ point seasons, with Wet Jeans right on the cusp.

But enough about the bright spots of Detroit and time to get into what the Falcons should prioritize and look for in this upcoming SMJHL draft, following the playoffs. This is no easy task to answer as the Falcons, well they need a lot after this year. The first thing the Falcons should prioritize is probably defense. I'm no GM but when teams are able to score 6+ goals in a game, something either has to be changed, adjusted or fixed. Along with defense the Falcons need a major boost offensively. In several of the Flacons games they were only able to put one goal in the back of the net which is not helpful when you're trying to outscore and beat your opponents. Like I said the Falcons need a lot in this coming offseason and the draft is a good place to start. The Falcons are a team in search of hope, a spark, anything to bring motivation back to the team and get them into better shape.

Like I said I'm no GM, but the Falcons need something if they are wanting to compete for the Four Star Cup and to prove that they are to be taken seriously in this league. The Falcons should take this time to look at what are their greatest needs and start by addressing them in hopes for improvement. Sure it might take a season or two but they got to start somewhere and they have to start now.
