The playoffs are about to start, and that brings us to the second DFA bounty:

You've made it. You're on the list to be drafted into the SMJHL. Some of you have already temporarily joined a team for the remainder of this season to stay in shape and possibly attract more attention from scouts.

Written Task: Write a summary of your scouting profile, highlighting why you you're expected to do well in the upcoming draft (250 word min.)
Graphic Task: Show us the cover photo for your scouting file. Must include your render, name, position and nationality.

Reward: $500,000 for doing one of the above

Only current SMJHL Draftable Free Agents (S63 SMJHL Draftees, SHL class of S64) are eligible for this bounty.

There is no need to claim this anywhere. After grading the money should pop up in your account 'automatically'.

Deadline: Sunday, December 12th @ 11:59pm EST

A silky smooth stride propels the defender towards the loose puck; they perform a lightning-quick turn as they corral the puck with their stick. A glance up the ice and the rearguard fires a laser from their defensive zone, through forecheckers legs and sticks, right onto the tape of a streaking winger flying through the neutral zone. The winger pushes the puck ahead, their jersey flapping as they pump their legs and that's when they ran into 223 pounds of Swiss muscle.

It was an accurate pass but it was easily read by Luca Hunziker, the young defender for the Zurich Thunder. Hunziker is quickly becoming known for punishing his opponents when they make mistakes. The 6'3" blueliner is an imposing force who spends all game making life a living hell for opposing teams. With a knack for understanding how plays develop, Luca is able to deliver some powerful checks that might rattle your teeth out. Goalies love to play behind the youngster as he does some of his best work in the crease, keeping dangerous plays from becoming goals.

While Luca is known for a throwback and punishing style of play, he does have some talent in the offensive zone. A heavy shot leads to a handful of rebounds every few games and a goal or two once in a while. Hunziker has some ability in transition but it is an area that the still-developing player has been working diligently on, "the game is changing and you need to have different ways to get the puck from your end to the offensive zone. I love doling out pain every chance I get but if I'm not moving the puck to where my team can score with it then I'm not helping much."

If you are looking for a pillar on defence then Luca Hunziker, a minute munching, crease clearing defender who appears to know what is needed to thrive in the modern game of hockey, should be at the top of your list.

Name: Dragomir Fedorov

Height:  6'4 (193 cm)

Weight:  250 Lbs ( 117 kg)

Player Description:

A unique mixture of Slavic brutality and European finesse.  Fedorov is a mountain of a man on skates. While he's far more of an offense-oriented defenseman his sheer size and strength make him an exceptional blueliner as well. Fedorov is also graced with a brutal slapshot that makes up a large part of his offensive game.  His combination of offensive skill and size makes him a serious threat on the ice. Fedorov's biggest weakness is his off-the-ice issues and his lack of skating ability. The good news is that he seems keen to improve his footwork and speed. The bad news is that Fedorov's blunt and cold Russian demeanor is unlikely to make him friends in the American sports media. Fedorov does not enjoy the pageantry and virtue of North American hockey, a fact that he has been very vocal about in the few English language interviews he has participated in. His two-game suspension from the IIHF world Juniors for insensitive and derogatory language is a red flag to any franchise interested in a brand ambassador.

There have been many analysts who have said that a man like Dragomir Fedorov has no place in the modern world of professional hockey. Fedorov's defenders would point out that the sport would suffer without some with the immense skill and physical talent that Fedorov possesses.  Fedorov's own mentality and personality fit this idea. Fedorov believes that success is ultimately what defines it. Your skill as a hockey player is defined by what you do on the ice, not what you say in press conferences or on social media. While this attitude puts him at odds with the current day Hockey establishment, it also drives his dedication to prove those detractors wrong.

We are getting a live scouting report of new goaltender Enes Gündoğan who was recently signed as a DFA by the Vancouver Whalers. While many DFAs would normally be at the end of the bench of on the 3rd lines or a backup or 3rd string in the case of a goalie, things have gone a bit differently for young Enes out of Austria. From day 1 right after his signing, the Whalers' management wanted to see what the young man had as a potential audition for a full-time role if the team drafted him. Citing a corral of inexperienced goaltenders, An audition he delivered as well!

In the 9 games played by Enes Gündoğan, the Whalers went 8-1 and Gündoğan finished his stort stint in the regular season with a goals against average of 1.89 and a save percentage of .904. He led his team's goaltender crew in game rating and also added 3 shutouts so 33% or a third of his starts were shutouts. His defense was a huge help allowing just short of 20 shots per game to come through against Enes but even when they did, he did a solid job against it. Enes Gündoğan went out and showed his abilities and has been named the team's starting goalie for the upcoming playoffs which is crazy considering he was literally just signed a week or so ago.

Enes Gündoğan brings a calming presence on the back end which helps the team be more aggressive and play lock down defense and make runs at goal. He has crazy reflexes and the ability to control rebounds and can be relied upon to stay in position, make a lot of saves and control 2nd chances. He is a big goalie at 6'6 and 227 pounds so he controls his area well and can intimidate forwards coming in at goal. The Turkish-Austrian national is looking to be a future starter at the IIHF level with Austria and at least be a potential starting or backup goalie at the SHL level. He does have the abilities which have already been on display and you can watch Enes and the Whalers soon in the SMJHL playoffs!
