Looking back I would have to give the GM to my man trella. MCP had setup a bunch of stuff for the Tampa Bay Barracuda but trella helped to shape that into where TBB is today. I remember when I joined the league, TBB were basically the laughing stock of the SHL. We were in hard tank mode and around that time we kept also having slipups happen. The future of TBB kept being in doubt. Trella, along with everyone else involved, really helped to reshape the team into something to be proud of. Additionally, outside of the GM job itself, he has just been a great person I had the joy of having him be a part of the TBB DnD game and it was a blast. Unfortunately I had to end it prematurely due to life but having him around was always fun. Best wishes to him as he moves forward with whatever he wishes.

a. What is worth more to you, a cup win in the FHM era or the STHS era?
b. Be honest, would we have seen the same final 4 as last year (Chicago, Texas, Hamilton, Buffalo) had BUF/HAM and TEX/CHI not run into each other in the second round?
c. Hamilton has a population of roughly 5 people. Where would you relocate the franchise?
d. Who is the best player to NOT make the final in the past 2 years?

A. A cup win in the FHM error would mean a lot more than a win in the STHS era for sure. Not only because my first season was the first season in FHM, but due to the differences in the simulators. Franchise Hockey Manager, though having optimal strategies and builds, allows for more nuance in players than STHS from everything I have read and heard.

B. If those teams had not met in the second round we would have definitely seen the same final 4. Those teams are not only the top of the league, but also have people who understand the simulation better than others and are better able use the tactics in the game to advance through the playoffs.

C. Hamilton, with their population of 5, will pack up the town and push it to wherever the team moves or risk losing everything to them. I would recommend the scenic environment of Death Valley. No way that can be any worse than Hamilton right? I mean, they have the world famous wrestler Undertaker.

D. The best player to not make the finals definitely has to be our main man Fitted The Great!!!! Why has that man been held outside of the finals for too long. I demand we allow him to choose a team to play for every season and let him show the world his greatness.

hahahahahaha remember this task from last season? The one where everyone was like "nah we're good, tampa and BAP will be in the finals soon and you'll see that the old guard will make way for the new young teams". Now that we have the exact same fucking teams in the final again, let me ask, is parity an issue in the SHL? How do we combat this?

I have thought a lot about the parity in the league, which definitely needs to be addressed. I have heard people discuss things like limiting features in Franchise Hockey Manager to make the learning curve shallower for everyone to learn. I feel that is not the best approach as you are removing ways of playing the game and approaching more unified builds and seeing coin flips in the simulations again. As we saw previously in the STHS years. Teams found the best combinations of attributes and just had everyone do the same things. Instead, I feel we need to do a better job at teaching not only GMs, but everyone in the league how Franchise Hockey Manager works. This would allow everyone, from the GMs to the Head Office to the players to better understand how they can contribute to the league and improve their own metrics. Additionally, we may need to look at having not only Cap limits based on money, but possibly TPE as well.

HO didn't feel like making a job posting for PT Director so they just put you in charge of picking the new one. So elect a new PT director, tag them, and explain why you think they'd be a great fit for the job. Or just someone you want to torture.

@fitted2106 would be the perfect PT director. He would have prompts that nobody would ever think of, nor have ever done before. The man, the myth, the legend would bring us into a new age. An age where everyone can just be themselves and answer the most crazy prompts and get rewarded for it. I am begging you, give the man the job. There is absolutely no way it would backfire. That is, unless he just never wrote prompts for everyone. In which case, free TPE for the league? Would that be such a bad thing. Wait, yes it would. It definitely would.

I think Infidel deserves a mention here for the work he's put in as the GM in Montreal in his short time there. They fumbled hard right out the gate under previous management with the expansion and were very much directionless until infidel stepped in. He set a plan in motion and started making moves to better the teams future very quickly. in just a short season he has cultivated an LR many would want to be a part of and he's well on the right path to making a strong shl roster. It will be very interesting to see if he can keep up this strong momentum as the seasons progress and their focus is less on drafting and acquiring SHL ready talent. these are different skills and he's proven great at one, time will tell with the other. I think he also has a great co gm in brick and together, they are not only a great group of people but a strong braintrust that should be able to leave a lasting legacy

d. Who is the best player to NOT make the final in the past 2 years?

a) definitely FHM era. While the cup wins in sths were definitely nice, don't get me wrong, they weren't all merited. there was a lot of randomness in sths and you could easily win a cup without really deserving it. in FHM, while it's maybe not random enough, at least you truly need to work for your cups. It will feel great when we finally break that slump.

b) I think it's very likely, with the odd hiccup that Baltimore and Buffalo would be a great series. While they would be tough to beat, I think it's possible with our team and that we could have easily been in the final 4 regardless of who we played in the previous rounds. that said, I think the west was pretty set to be Chicago and texas if they didn't have to play each other. moving forward though, LAP definitely poses a legitimate threat.

c)lets relocate to iqualuit where there is a population of only 3 people. the team would have more polar bear fans than human fans. actually that's a great idea, lets name them the iqualuit polar bears. it even follows a similar monicre as the Hamilton Steelhawks name and can easily use similar colours.

d) I think Ethan Duncan is probably the best player to not reach the final. He really exemplifies what an all around superstar can be in the league; there's really nothing he can't do. he leads the charge on offense and is the first player back on defense. and no matter what, he can put the team on his back on a whim and turn the tide of a game.

Honestly I think we can all safely say that the result we got was not the most anticipated result. Texas took down Hamilton and brought the cup out west. Despite their win, I don't think there was a clear winner heading into this series. tests showed that it was very tight one way or the other and that either team had a chance to bring int home. at first, it did look like hamilton was gonna win it all yet again as they took a commanding series lead. but texas came back with 2 wins in a row to solidify the championship and bring down the juggernaught.

Ok mister sir you need to calm down, the wording in the post is very immature! There is actually no parity issue at all in the Simulation Hockey League! I've gone back every season all the way back to season 1. I have counted all of the wins, all of the losses and compiled a master list. I seperated teams into seperate tiers based on situational success, I've put the good ones together and the bad ones together. When that confirmed my hypothesis I did it again putting bad with good and good with bad. Every single time the league was shown to have true parity! Every season since season 1 has amazingly had a prefect .500 league winning percentage! Half of every game each season was won, the other half lost. If this my good angry sit is not parity than we should call it parody. Do not disrespect the league!

I would say a win in the FHM era because that is the era I am apart of. I was briefly in the STHS era and there were no such things as sims and a very shoddy index. To me the most important things in a sim league are the presentation of the streams and the presentation of the index, and well, the STHS era had null of one and hardly the other.

Write your predictions for this year's IIHF tournament or WJC if you care about that more. Will there be surprises? Will any players make their country proud? Who's gonna suck? Be bold!

My prediction is a return to glory for the USA federation.  This is the first time without me behind the helm in over two years.  The energy was stale and our results were faltering.  Super excited for Geek to come in and bring new life into the team so the nation can be rewarded again for their long time commitment.  Combining this with the procrastinators special to say that USA crushed their group in the round robin stage, so it's looking like an easy prediction.  Somehow, he made Slip McScruff look like a true pro so far.  I'd love for him to get us out of the first round and carry that momentum through to the finals.

BEYOND

In the not so distant future (s64), 4 Texas Hamilton finals in a row have seen most of the SHLers quit out of spite. Only a select few remain. Head Office reeeeaaally likes having 20 teams so they have now allowed every user to have 5 players to fill the void of everyone who left. Name your other 4 players that aren't your current player, select their positions, and decide their focus and path in the league. Postulate where they end up after the draft and how the players pan out.

I'm not sure how I split my 5 players.  I can either stack them all together and represent a generation of talent spread around the league, or I can space them out so one team can keep drafting them and I'll always have someone at the top of their career.

If I go with the first approach, I will find some five characters to steal names from.  I can't pick it ahead of time, it will likely be from whatever I am reading or watching when I go to create them.  If it was right now, probably Rand, Egwene, Mat, Perrin, and Nynaeve.  I would make the full spread of skaters, so they can play together as a forward line and defensive pair in the IIHF, while they would be split across the league in normal SHL play.

If I go with the second approach, I would likely go with a familial name approach.  Slip McScruff the first, second, third... would all be related and I'd weave some crappy story about their lineage in PTs.  I would pick their roles based on what my team needed to come up.  I'd spread out the IIHF nationality to be the opposite as the other case.  Each McScruff somehow is a different nationality (wink wink) and they play against each other on international ice.

You log on to the SHL. Oh shit gotta do your Finals Predictions. Yay Hamilton Texas finals, love shl parity. Weird, the title says s61 finals predictions but its s62? But wait, all the PTs are labeled s61, we're on activity check #388, and no one is complaining about regression. You must have woken up back at the start of the S61 Finals! What do you do differently now that you know how the next season will play out. Change some of your casino bets? Predict some drama? Cheat at primetime?

I don't do anything differently.  I mean, sure, I pull a Back to the Future and use all the Sports Alamanac gimmicks to gobble up casino bets and prrimetimes.  Feed me money and TPE through perfect clairvoyance to prolong my fading life force.

However, this gift of knowledge is actually a big fat curse because I know the futility of grinding out in face of SHL parity.  Sure, I can make my skater slightly better, and I could even make my whole team also slightly better by sharing my gift curse.  But I know that this drop in the bucket is not enough to break the wheel and change the finals.  Instead, I keep the foresight tucked into my pocket and just vibe along with myy team.  I let the repeat finals and regression changes wash over me as I claim all my TPE right before the offseason.  Plus, I get to snort all this spice which is cool.

I pick AlashSCM who is basically just our beloved SlashACM but people are nice to him.  The PT prompts will remain creative and open ended so we can all come in and have fun each week.  There is something for everyone and you can see the effort he brings every week.  When someone gets ready to flame him, they stop, breathe, and remember that a hardworking individual is on the other side of the screen.

I know what you are thinking (remember, I have clairvoyance), a simulation league without malicious trolls is pure imagination.  That's fine though, because so is AlashSCM.

a) I think a cup in the FHM era has to be the bigger reward right now. The STHS era certainly had its randomness but with the parity issues as they are currently, makes winning an FHM cup more fulfilling for certain teams. Hopefully with some modifications we can be at a point where soon anyone could be taking home a challenge cup.

b) I think its a strong possibility. Those four teams have been running roughshod over the league for seasons now since the switch to FHM. Say what you want a bout parity but their GMs have also made some quality rosters and mastered the tactics needed to keep them competitive during that time.

c) If we are going based on population, then I would leave them in Hamilton. I always love having more Canadian teams so I would be hesitant to move them at all. If i had to move them my personal favorite will always be Ottawa. I would love to see a J franchise there sometime in the future, but i don't know if it has enough backing for a big league team in the SHL.

d) Unfortunately with me just getting back to the league in the last season and a bit I've been out of touch with who is on what teams and what teams have been in the finals (aside from the “BIG” four). I am sure there are lots of players that haven't made the finals that are more than deserving of a trip or two. I’d love it for a guy like Joseph Weston of Calgary to get a shot, been absolutely killer with the Dragons this past season and that team as a whole is set for a run shortly.

15. (+2 TPE) I’m very excited for this year's World Junior Championship! While maybe not the most bold take, since I am on the team, I think DACH will have a strong tournament and surprise this year. They have a roster full of decently earning players and some new transfer additions that will help them a ton in areas they lacked a bit in past seasons. The tournament will have its typical powerhouse teams but as my player gets one season closer to aging out, I am hoping that as DACH gets stronger we get a couple runs at a gold medal in the next 2 to 3 seasons.

20. (+3 TPE) Everyone should come join the Simulation Soccer League! As a new league starting to hit the final stretch of its first season now is the perfect time to join up. Using the FM22 system you get to see your player in full 3D sim games, which is something I hope to see in the SHL soon. You also get to join up at the start and be part of a great league as it aims to grow and be the main Soccer sim league. With a short season and 1 cup competition it starts out small making it easy to ease into as a background league, but there will be plenty to do as the league grows. The opportunities for team vs team rivalry cups, more cup competitions and a world cup are all there and its all very exciting to see how the league could grow as it pushes forward and gains more players. With expansion already happening to 6 teams in S2, Join now!

Its not hard to look past my current and past GMs that Rikard Hammarberg has played for in the SHL for the Hamilton Steelhawks. Yes, parity has been a hot topic to be discussed during the FHM era, but Hammarberg literally played in every single finals since he came up to the Steelhawks save for three seasons. During that time, the Steelhawks were able to win 3 cups. To keep a core producing and in the running to win the President’s trophy all these years is an astonishing feat. Retooling on the fly, mining diamonds in the draft, shrewd trades all factor into building the dynasty that is Hamilton. While there had been turnover in the GM positions, Hallsy has remained the constant, and has been a big part of why Hamilton is such a powerhouse. Yes, there have been some mishaps along the way, but he has been able to keep a great core together that can challenge for the cup every season.

As much we like to make fun of the fact that its Texas vs Hamilton again, this series was a lot more entertaining than last season’s. The fact that the series went seven games, instead of a sweep like last year, made it a lot more exciting. Compounded with that was the game where Texas was up four goals to two with forty five seconds left, looking to take a commanding three games to two lead in a very back and forth series. Hamilton was able to muster two goals in those last remaining seconds and win it in overtime with a goal from Guy O’Shea. That was very exciting. At least as a Steelhawk…

Parity is an issue in the sense that there are people that are absolute whizzes at figuring out the simulation engine. You can have equal teams in terms of TPE, but the teams that have the time and resources to put into figuring out the simulation engine will come up on top.

The current salary system is not conducive to “spreading” out high TPE players around. There have been changes to regression but I believe that it won’t affect parity much. Your Connor McDavids (2200+TPE) players are making the same salary cap as your second line complimentary players like Pierre Luc Dubois (1600TPE). There needs to be more tiers of salary caps based on TPEs. Right now, a team can literally have two lines of Connor McDavids and then a line of Ryan Nugent Hopkins for their third line in their line up. A decoupling of salary cap and salary earned may be needed so that teams will need to make harder decisions for the higher TPE earning players.

I always like to pick Sweden to do well, not just because I play for Sweden, but I always believe that Sweden is just on the cusp of being amazing. There is a great mix of players in all positions and no lack of superstars in the defensive positions. I know Hammarberg has never played very well during the IIHF tournament, but when every one fires on all cylinders, Sweden can take on any nation out there. Personally, I hope Hammarberg makes Sweden proud (finally). So… prediction is that Sweden will finally take the gold medal this year. I’d be proud of a silver, but international gold is the one trophy that Hammarberg is missing in his trophy case. (No more change for WJC gold, but at least the Treble would be nice)

I think the best GM right now in the whole league, SHL and SMJHL, is sve7en, who is the General Manager of the Carolina Kraken. I think being the GM of a SMJHL team is harder than a SHL GM. You have to weed through lots of new users to sim leagues and find one you think you will be active. Then you have to help them through all the processes that can seem complicated and convoluted. You have to help them with builds and what to write about for PTs. And it isn't just one person you have to do this with. There are multiple new users on your team that you need to assist. And all of this while you also have to build a competitive team while wondering when someone is going to get snatched from you. sve7en does this better than anyone I know. He really got me to care about the SMJHL, and cultivates an absolutely amazing locker room in Carolina. I wouldn't want to have any other GM in the SMJHL.

Task 6 +3 TPE

b. I think we would have seen the same final 4, and it's really a travesty. It is getting super boring. I hope that HO can figure out how to increase parity and have more variety in the simulation. It really sucks as a team just outside the big 4 to see them dominate absolutely everything. Hopefully we can figure something out soon.
c. I think I would move Hamilton to Denver, Colorado. I know that Colorado already has a SMJHL team, but still. I live in Denver, and it's hard to describe how much Colorado likes hockey. With the Broncos really struggling, I think it's safe to say that Colorado is a hockey state. And to not have a team in the SHL there is a travesty, in my opinion. I think it's one of the biggest hockey markets outside of Canada.
d. I think the best player in the past 2 seasons to not make the finals is Keith Lee. He's scored 100 points in the last 2 seasons while playing elite defense. It's really incredible watching him play, and I think it's a shame he hasn't had the opportunity to play in the finals. He's also on my team so I would like to play in the finals with him.

I think that I was outstanding as simulatioln hockey league GM thats right, ME I was outstanding cause in 6 seasons of GM I won 2 predisents trophies, had 3 finals appearances (both pre and post rebuild), and won a cup. I also drafted at least 1 2k player in each draft, and 2 or 3 1k + players each draft. This was mostly cause of good scouting spreadsheets largely done by toe. I also think I didn't get hosed on many trades, and for the most part they worked out for me. Every time I traded up in the draft I ended up making out like a bandit despite being question marked for doing so (reddit third rounder to move up 1 spot at the back of the first round, people thought it was dumb but I got slip mcsruff a lifelong ride or die jet who max earned rather than a 200 tpe bust who was picked afterwords)

3. (3 TPE)

my simulation hockey league draft record as gm on this site is going super strong for most part with lots of good players but someitmes not good players BUST which is not good and was bad for my team. one of the players that BUST was jerry larry who was second round pick for my team winnipeg jets of simulation hockey league western conference and busted and was a bad player who eventually retired and was a waste of 2nd pick, cause for us it was coinflip of jerry larry or infidel, and infidel was a long time shler who was very good which made the bust of jerry larry worse. If jerry larry panned out we would have had more forward depth and a better third line, cause we had some inactive plugs on the third line and just relied on the visser line to carry us for hte most part.

13. (3 TPE)

yes parity is issue in simulation hockey league cause in the simulation hockey league there have been very few teams that make finals ever since fhm switch this is cause the simon t randomness is gone and no longer a factor I think hockey is such a random sport htere has to be some element of that in a sim engine, like when la won cup as an 8 seed that would never ever ever happen in fhm cause they only reward the stacked teams no matter what. this can be combated by not making it take 1 or 2 fucking years irl to actually rebuild a team to contender status through the draft, yet make rfa rights expire like 6 months after being drafted. either lengthen rfa period or make it not take 2 years to have a player make a difference. FA is not an option for building team for most peo[le since fa want to win and go to the already stacked teams. these teams also get steady influx of young players since they will leave after rfa period and also want to win

15. (2 TPE)

i think in iihf also known as international ice hockey federation for our greater simulation hockey league universe that comrpises of all players in simulation hockey league and simulaiton major jinior hockey league that also have countries that they are form, my player aleksander kozlov of the tampa bary barracuda (a simulation hockey league team) will have great sucess with his iihf team russia nad make the playoff round thing and maybe get a medal cause russia is very good team the best and not going to lose again that would be crazy. i think usa will suck cause the us sucks and not good team compared to ours

21. (2 TPE)

i think the man for hte job is my man fitted cause he has lots of good ideas and this makes good money but also it seems like lots of work so idk if I would want fitted to go through that there are way easier jobs you can get for money on shl that is barley any work and paid the same or more as pt director lmao. it seems like big hassle for not much of a reward in the grand scheme of things, im not surprised you are stepping down slash cause the job just does not seem worth it @fitted
