There have been some good and some bad GMs in SHL history. (Mostly bad) Pick a GM you think was outstanding and explain why you think they were one of the better GMs in SHL history. Point to trades/signings/trophy wins/locker rooms to support your claim.

The GM that I believe that was outstanding would have to be the former Edmonton Blizzard Keygan. If it wasn't for him I would've never have gone to Edmonton back in the S46 entry draft and who knows how my time in the league would've played out back in 2019. Being on Edmonton with my previous player was amazing and I even got to capture a cup back in S49, but I was only in my 2nd season with the club back then so didn't play a major part in the championship run but it was still amazing to see us capture the cup.

@Keygan and @"TommySalami" were a great GM duo and answered any questions we had in the LR. I'm happy to see them take on league management with Keygan being in the SHL HO and Tommy being the SHL Co-Commissioner now. It's still impressive to see old man Tony Pepperoni performing at such a pace but I guess Tommy has FHM secrets that we won't know about it.

Thank you again Keygan for taking the chance on me back in S46 and for making me part of the Blizzard family.

a. What is worth more to you, a cup win in the FHM era or the STHS era?
b. Be honest, would we have seen the same final 4 as last year (Chicago, Texas, Hamilton, Buffalo) had BUF/HAM and TEX/CHI not run into each other in the second round?
c. Hamilton has a population of roughly 5 people. Where would you relocate the franchise?
d. Who is the best player to NOT make the final in the past 2 years?

a. I got to experience a cup win back in S49 so a cup win in the FHM era would mean more to me especially with how difficult it is to make the cup finals now (if you aren't on one of the powerhouse teams in the league). That is why a Challenge Cup means more to me than a cup victory from the STSH era.

(65 words)

b. It is likely we would have seen the same final 4 again because those teams have stacked rosters and great FHM knowledge. Of course it would be great to see different teams in the end of the playoffs, but it's hard to dethrone those powerhouse teams. Hopefully here in Montreal, we can be one of those teams to be feared in the near future!

(64 words)

c. If I were to re-locate Hamilton, I would like to keep them in the province of Ontario and move them to the nation's capital of Ottawa! I would keep the steelhawks name and logo since Ottawa isn't that far away from the city of Hamilton and those 5 people can hopefully make the trip from Hamilton to Ottawa to catch the games.

(62 words)

d. The best player to have not made the finals in the past 2 seasons would have to be Ryuuji Minamino from the Chicago  syndicate as he was the league scoring leader this season with a phenomenal 106 points with 60 goals and 46 assists. What makes this more impressive is that 2nd in goal scoring had only 39 goals which was Steve Harrington from the Buffalo  Stampede

You log on to the SHL. Oh shit gotta do your Finals Predictions. Yay Hamilton Texas finals, love shl parity. Weird, the title says s61 finals predictions but its s62? But wait, all the PTs are labeled s61, we're on activity check #388, and no one is complaining about regression. You must have woken up back at the start of the S61 Finals! What do you do differently now that you know how the next season will play out. Change some of your casino bets? Predict some drama? Cheat at primetime?

In an alternate timeline I'm somehow at the start of the S61 finals but I have the memories of my current self with all the knowledge about how S62 will play out. This time around I make changes to my casino bet by taking HAM under, TOR under and EDM under. Since we have the same finals again this season, people wouldn't be too surprised at that but I would edit my playoff predictions to have TEX in the finals instead of CHI like I did this time around.

League drama is something that happens every season and I avoid getting involved in the drama that happens in the league.

Since I also know the draft order for the S62 SHL draft I edit my mock draft last minute and enjoy all the sweet TPE to myself while my fellow draft class wonders how I knew so much info about the draft and why I didn't share it with them even though I said I would.

I will obviously have a little bit of bias when it comes to my experience with GM's.  In my limited tenure here on the website I have had the privilege to learn from and work alongside some absolutely amazing GM's of the SHL.  For this task though, I'm going to focus on a specific combo who were my guides when I first dipped my toes into GM'ing (offline, not in the SHL because people need a sandbox first right?  Right!?).   I'm talking about the Outlungus era Anaheim duo of @SpartanGibbles and @BDonini who were both crucial in getting Strom on the ice, but through whom I learned quite a bit in the days of STHS for tactics and testing...and then into the FHM transition being extremely encouraging in theories, answering questions about becoming a GM and above all, showing me what a good discord locker-room looks like.  Not only for engagement, but for resources and information.  What I learned from those two has been a basis on everything that I've done since from WJC, to Winnipeg Co-GM to now GM of the Grizzlies.

A) A cup win in the FHM era, to me is going to be worth more.  Despite all of the current arguments on parity and such with repeat teams in the championships I do feel that because of the depth of programming in FHM, you really do have to work much, much harder to get to the top.
B) As cookie cutter as these four teams are trying to be to each other (following Hamilton's lead of course) I believe it would have been the same final four.  There have been massive improvements in competing teams like Baltimore, Tampa Bay and Toronto but despite this the "Hamilton Build" for a team is still the dominant one in the league.
C) I'm not sure why I did, but I misread this as 5 million, not just...five.  If I could re-locate the franchise I would move them to St. Louis.  Yeah, it a homer pick for me.  Yes, there's already a J team there but gosh darn it they can sure have an SHL franchise there as well.  St. Louis is just a great sports town and if, in the SHL universe they could have a major league team there...why not move the steelhawks.
D) The best player to not make the final is going to be a goaltender.  It will either be Harry Carpet or Luca Del Vecchio.  These goalies are elite and top notch.  How efficiently they've been able to steal games for their teams has led to the terms of "Being Carpy'd" or "Being Bap'd" respectively.  They deserve to get into the finals and a chance at a cup in order to polish off a storied career.

Like many, I would enjoy having enough money in the back from contracts and doing work that at some point I would be able to max earn a player without really having to do, well....anything.  If it was on repeat and S61 finals were happening I would bust out the SHL's version of Gray's Sports Almanac and start setting myself up to get that sweet sweet 4x parlay to pad my bank account.  If Biff Tannen can cheat his way into millions then why couldn't I leverage the gift of foresight to do the same here?  Then again, its groundhog's day.  If I fell asleep at the end of the season, would it just restart again and I'd be in the terrible loop and never being able to exit?  At this point, we will never know.  All I know is I'm still writing, still earning...and the easy money hasn't showed up yet.  Oh well.

c. Hamilton has a population of roughly 5 people. Where would you relocate the franchise?
d. Who is the best player to NOT make the final in the past 2 years?

a. A cup in FHM is definitely better to get. STHS just took a nice stroke of luck and anyone could be a contender any given season, making building a solid team on paper completely irrelevant. FHM actually challenges teams' management to make elite rosters that can challenge at the top, and have results matching team quality. (56 words)
b. Possibly. Some teams did make genuine solid improvements to their rosters and could have made pushes this season. Baltimore and Tampa both had very solid squads and with a good bit of luck definitely had the ability to go the distance. I would say that yes, it's most likely we'd have the same top 4, but it's far from cut and dry. (62 words)
c. My answer would've been Montreal if we didn't already have a Montreal team, when I was in HAM management I actually did float the possibility of a potential relocation to Montreal. We already have a lot of the major cities in North America covered in the league, but maybe Washington or Pittsburgh? Both are solid hockey cities in places we don't really have covered already. (65 words)
d. I will go with Augustus Wang, arguably the best dman of the FHM era and an absolute stud when it comes to either putting up huge numbers on the blueline or racking up the count on shotgunned brewskies. Obviously the league has higher TPE players than Wang who could be chosen here, but in terms of player legacy Wang is up there. (62 words)

There are a lot of "could-have-been" draft picks in the SHL, but let's have some fun thinking about someone that busted hard. Write about their potential and where they were picked, and how that franchise could look *if* they had in fact panned out.

Hamilton had a few bad busts during the time I was around the team. Earliest I can remember was Sami (Sami Raanta) in S47 who was a promising first rounder that went IA within less than a season of being picked. Another one was uhh (Hariken Urawa) in S50, who was a great guy all of us wanted to draft to Hamilton at 9th overall in the draft, but not long after the draft he suddenly disappeared without a trace, even though we voice chatted with him and stuff, it was really weird and none of us have any clue what happened. I hope everything is ok with him in real life at the moment because he really seems like an awesome dude. Then there's Kimmy in S55 who busted cuz he's lazy and has no idea how to make a good SHL player as usual and we got duped into thinking he'd stay active. It happens and I forgive him but if he ever recreated I would absolutely stay clear of him no doubt. (175 words)

The one where everyone was like "nah we're good, tampa and BAP will be in the finals soon and you'll see that the old guard will make way for the new young teams". Now that we have the exact same fucking teams in the final again, let me ask, is parity an issue in the SHL? How do we combat this?

Parity I feel is going to improve a lot moving forward. For one, it was pretty obvious this season wasn't going to shift much from last season; changes take time to come into place and it's pretty foolish to get mad because nothing immediately changed in the league's landscape. The top teams were already on a downward trend, with other teams starting to be on the rise, and people need to realize how much these new regression changes are going to pound these teams too. Hamilton, Buffalo, Texas and Chicago are all going to feel the wrath of the regression harshening, and that's not even factoring in whatever parity strengthening measures HO are working on behind the scenes. As understandable as it is that people are growing restless with the status quo not wavering, changes have and will be made, so patience is key! I am looking forward to seeing how the divide get lessened over the next 3-5 seasons. (160 words)

d. Who is the best player to NOT make the final in the past 2 years?

a. A win in the FHM era is undoubtedly more valuable and more difficult to attain. I remember when I was drafted to Toronto we were projected to be absolutely terrible in S52 (I believe that was the last year of STHS) and the randomness of the simulation had us make the playoffs. That anecdote alone proves my point about FHM vs STHS.

b. I absolutely think that if Texas and Chicago had not met in the second round, we would have seen the same final four as years past. Though I do think Chicago is trending down and Baltimore is trending up. I think head to head, Chicago would have come away with a series win and a place in the final four.

c. I would move the Hamilton franchise to St. Louis. My reasoning is very simple. I live in St Louis IRL. While not one of the biggest cities in the United States, St. Louis still boasts one of the most fanatic sports fan bases in the country in my opinion. I'm sure if we had SHL and SMJHL attendance figures, the Scarecrows would be well supported!

d. Finally a chance to write about myself. I'm sure everyone in sim leagues understands what it is like to pour into a player for two years to finally see them reach the peak of their game. I have done that with Rhys Pritchard and built him into a great two way forward that has scoring touch. While he's not a top scorer in the league, his all around game earns him a nod here as the best player not in the finals the past two seasons.

Now that we have the exact same fucking teams in the final again, let me ask, is parity an issue in the SHL? How do we combat this?

The lack of parity is a massive issue in this league. I, for one, am leaving the team that I've played my whole career with because of it. I feel that I don't have a chance to win a cup if I stay in a locker room with my friends and that I can only compete for one if I go and play on one of the top 4-8 teams in the league. I think this issue is primarily caused by the learning curve for FHM. As a long time OOTP player I was convinced that moving from STHS to FHM was going to be awesome. But for the life of me, I can't get as into FHM as I can into OOTP. I think this is the main reason for the parity. Knowing the engine well is a massive prerequisite to succeeding in this league and too few people possess this skill. Those that do possess the skill are the ones we're seeing succeed repeatedly.

In your opinion, which team is on track to completely sell off all assets and begin a long rebuild? A few teams are already in the midst of this, but what teams are watching their window slowly close and need to get younger soon in order to start the climb back to the top?

The unfortunate answer is the Toronto North Stars. We have had some unplanned and unintentional turnover in leadership and are struggling through the repercussions of that. People get busy and real life and that's the unfortunate reality of what we are struggling through right now. Several of our top players (myself included) have expressed an interest in chasing a cup and have announced their intentions to test FA or have (or plan to) asked to be traded. It's upsetting, particularly because this was a close group that looked like they were built to compete for titles in this league just a few seasons ago. So to see it all go sideways so quickly is disappointing and I believe speaks to the state of the league with parity and the FHM learning curve. I still hope and wish for Toronto to win a cup during my time on the site, but those hopes, unfortunately, are beginning to dwindle.

+3TPE
Since the implementation of the FHM era of the SHL there is always teams trying to get a leg up and it has caused for the creation of some rules. Some of the most notable are the rules around so many players playing a certain role and ensuring that you have so many backup goalie games played. The rules are always changing in order to try and enhance the users experience on the site and with the sim. I think this is something the league has done extremely well with. They have actively looked at teams that were trying to beat the systems and addressed this in such a way that it would bring some more party to the league as a whole. I would never want to go back to the STHS era where if you did not follow one specific build then you were useless on the ice. Overall there could still be some rule changes or things set up in a way to put some sort of caps on player builds depending what style of player they choose. Example Point shooter has a max passing stat of 15? We only have one of these currently and its shooting range and shooting accuracy. Overall the league has done a very great job and I wouldn’t change anything about the rulebook for now.

Parity in the SHL is something that everyone has been discussing forever it feels. Yes in the last season we discussed that these new teams would start taking strides and be on their way to the finals in no time at all. But what we didn’t discuss is the fact that these parity changes were not going to be a offseason and BOOM done the league has parity now. There are still loads of good teams that are built to continue to be successful. The teams you mentioned BAP and TAMPA look at how they ended up this season. BAP was second in the league with points and top of the Eastern conference by a lot! I still believe there is good parity in the league and with the new regression rules I really believe it is only going to get better. Really what this season came down to was some sim luck and the fact that some teams have had more time and experience to figure out FHM and all the levels of testing you can do to ensure you have success.

+3TPE
There have been a lot of changes happen in the SHL and some teams have handled those changes better than others. We have seen a lot of GM movement this season now that we have made it to the finals. It appears there will be a big shuffle incoming this offseason. There are defiantly some teams that may become sellers and one that sticks out to me is Toronto North Stars. Nothing against them at all it just seems that the team itself has been in tough with Buffalo and Hamilton in their division and has hit a point that there isn’t much they can do to continue to compete. Now with a new GM hunt for the team it looks like they are going to have to start selling off assets in order to start a rebuild and maybe get ahead of the Steelhawks and Stampede as they are pushing to try and maintain their dominance in the league. This is of course just looking at a team that has struggled as of late they still do have a lot of pieces there and could put together a decent run yet.

I think the SHL is pretty good as it is, maybe some small stuff changes could improve user experience, but i am going to have to address the last HO change that got a lot of people mad. And by mad, i mean absolutely f*ck*ng pissed.

Regression. Tough subject for sure. But i fell that HO made the right decision. While i understand careers in the SHL are long and that is something users really enjoy, it really backs up the minors to majors channel. Take Jay Cue. Good earner, maybe top 15 in his class, almost 700 TPE, playing in the minors for 3 seasons i think, and he still can't get a spot in his SHL team. I know he plays in a position that has a lot of very good players, but still, this is exactly why we need regression to come sooner, so that spots are available for new users or recreates.

Write your predictions for this year's IIHF tournament or WJC if you care about that more. Will there be surprises? Will any players make their country proud? Who's gonna suck? Be bold!

There is no doubt in my mind, that this season the WJC is coming to Team World trophy cabinet. You might think this is a strange prediction, which i can understand, but at the same time they have Jay Cue, the Maine Timber centre. He had a very good season in the minors, so he is really trying to make a name for himself internationally with the global team, before transferring somewhere else (maybe). To be fair, international games really are not his cup of tea, so we need to wait and see what happens. So far he has 2 goals and 5 assists, but it is clear that he wants to do even better.

HO didn't feel like making a job posting for PT Director so they just put you in charge of picking the new one. So elect a new PT director, tag them, and explain why you think they'd be a great fit for the job. Or just someone you want to torture.

This is such an easy question, but difficult at the same time. I have 2 names that would be just perfect for the job. @siddhus and @Kyamprac. Why? First of all, because they already have a lot of experience in that job in another league. They are available, know their stuff, can rally their teams to do the job in a timely fashion. They seem to be smart people (i am probably wrong here though), so they really can create a lot of very good and engaging point tasks. And we all know how sensitive SHL users are to the PT topics apparently... 2 picks, maybe i could let them fight it for the job.

I was not around for the STHS era but it certainly did sound like a lot of teams were beginning to figure out a super broken meta to build a really crazy team, so the switch to FHM made sense, although now there is just as big of a meta in FHM as well apparently. Either way, winning a cup in general is commendable.
B. Honestly, probably. These teams are so stacked that they would've breezed through the rest of the competition with ease, barring some massive upset that just seems so unlikely given how good these teams are in comparison to the rest of the league. It's kind of unfortunate the brackets ended up leading to this I guess, but then again, changing up the bracket makes it more interesting,, although the finals matchup is still the same.
C. Honestly I think Hamilton is fine as a Simulation Hockey League franchise and doesn't need to be relocated. It might seem like it would fit in as a SMJHL city moreso than a SHL city, but Hamilton Ontario is pretty passionate about their sports teams, especially if you look at the Hamilton Tiger Cats in the Canadian Football league.
D. I think it's really unfortunate that Ryuuji Minamino didn't make the Four Star Cup finals in the past two seasons, especially after how historic of a season he had with 60 goals and 106 points. That Chicago team really was well deserving of making it to the finals but just got beat out by some juggernauts in the past two seasons.

There have been some good and some bad GMs in SHL history. (Mostly bad) Pick a GM you think was outstanding and explain why you think they were one of the better GMs in SHL history. Point to trades/signings/trophy wins/locker rooms to support your claim.

There have been a number of good GMs throughout my time as a member on this site but I am going to focus on the best GM I have played for who did the job by himself (Tez would have been my pick but he was carried by some great people around him). Jay McDonald was my teammate for 3 seasons and my GM for two. In those two seasons I was with him on the Comets, we won back to back cups and decimated the league. I won awards as did most of the team and we were honestly a powerhouse. Outside of that, JayMac also made another finals in season 2 (Losing to the Platoon) and another playoff appearance in his final season. A small sample size for sure, but when you are as dominant in the league as JayMac was in the GM role, it is hard not to sling praise upon him. (156)

There are a lot of "could-have-been" draft picks in the SHL, but let's have some fun thinking about someone that busted hard. Write about their potential and where they were picked, and how that franchise could look *if* they had in fact panned out

Looking back there are a number of busts in the higher picks of the draft. Drayson Williams, a first overall pick doesn't even have a bojo box, but I am going to focus on a bust who went out in a crazy way. Jack Crasher was selected 2nd overall in the Season 4 draft by the Vancouver Ice Wolves. The Wolves never really found their footing and would relocate fairly quickly with poor drafting being a big reason why. Crasher played 3 seasons with the Wolves in an era where points came easy. In 144 games, Crasher finished with just 7 goals and 44 points with very pedantic peripherals as well. What makes this juicy is during his free agency, Crasher agreed in DMs to sign with multiple teams. This was found out by the league and Crasher disappeared leaving in his place the Jack Crasher rule making agreements in DMs binding. A truly bizarre end to a very unspectacular SHL career. (162)

A. I think a cup in the STHS era is more impressive to achieve than the FHM era. Main reason being that in the FHM era, if you have the best players by TPE build, you win the cup. It is boring but incentivizes people to train which is great. In the STHS era, you could go in with a lower TPE team and win the cup by manipulating the strats and the sim to your advantage. That is more impressive to me. (82)

B. I think you never truly know how a playoff will go as there is that chance that had BUF/HAM and TEX/CHI not faced each other early, the same final four may still have been different. However, going back to my point that the best teams by TPE win the majority of the time, it seems pretty logical to me that had they not faced each other, then Buffalo, Hamilton, Texas and Chicago would have been the final four as they are the four best. (86)

C. I would probably keep Hamilton in Ontario and re-ignite the Ottawa-Toronto rivalry. It would be fine to have more real life rivalries and this would be a great one. It would also be different from real life considering that Ottawa would be run by ownership willing the spend and make big moves while Toronto is the team that cant seem to really get anything going. (65)

D. I am going to give my vote to Oliver Cleary. Cleary is a top tier defensemen in this league with a high tpe. He has also been on multiple good teams including the Rage, the Panthers and most recently the Baltimore Platoon. Even though these teams have the star power, Cleary and Co can never seem to put it all together and make the dance. (65)

Task 13: Parody

Ah shit, here we go again, the simulation hockey league is moaning about the same teams in the finals once again. The real issue is that certain teams cannot have stable leadership, I mean just take a look at Toronto, who has to have yet another GM change, due to out of league reasons. Another thing that bas changed since the last time I wrote about the parity issue is the introduction of a new regression system, designed to make users recreate their players sooner rather than later, which is a step in the right direction. This will not be implemented until the offseason, so we’ll see how it impacts older teams next season. For younger teams, do not overpay your players, with salary caps becoming stricter every year, there’s always that one grizzled get that gets overpaid, please do not be that team, and when it’s time to rebuild, let the rebuild run its course.

Task 20: Free Advertising

Hello there stranger, do you like American football? Are you sick and tired of the official’s ruining the The NFL?!? Then you should try the international simulation football league! Where the game is based around you, and there’s no such thing as "super teams", there is more parity than the amount of posts on the site’s thunderdome! You create your own player, similar to that of here in the SHL, but there’s no true meta, so you can make a Running back at QB if you really want to! My tip for you is to create on defense, particularly defensive line, due to the abundance of the need at this position! Another tip is to not create at OL, that position is boring and if you’re extremely active, just not worth your time! In my view, don’t be an idiot because it will hurt your draft stock. So please join the international simulation football league today, it’s all about moving dots!

I have to start with „I don't know all GMs“. I don't even know that many in general, so I will write about one that I know well: @ml002. Let's go back to the season I was drafted: S47. Toronto was literally a dead team, full of inactives, a dead discord LR and ML's job was to start a rebuild and build a team from scratch. A season later (S48) we actually had a first round pick and Mika was added to the team and then season after season ML picked up some of the best people in the league, notably Bobby Lane, Ruslan Zaporozhets and Rhys Pritchard three seasons in a row. Add some great trades to the mix (for example a former first overall in Adam Barron from WPG) and after a long grind you had one of the best teams in the league … on paper. All this team managed to achieve in the end were a few individual awards, but unfortunately no cup. I still believe that it's worth mentioning, because not all great GMs won cups and not all GMs that have lots of cups are necessarily good.

a. What is worth more to you, a cup win in the FHM era or the STHS era?

Both have pros and cons. I would argue STHS means more here because you can take the whole team into consideration and not only the GMs. In FHM the GMs play too much into the actual cup win and players don't matter much, especially goalies. STHS was more random, but at least it wasn't "only" up to someone's sim knowledge whether the team would have a chance to win. (69 words)

c. Hamilton has a population of roughly 5 people. Where would you relocate the franchise?

Somewhere as far away from Toronto as possible. Why do you need two teams so close together anyway, especially if there is yet another team so close to them like Buffalo? Leave the major city and move Hamilton somewhere into the middle of nowhere, as long as it's a different conference I'm okay with it. Somewhere out west is fine. (60 words)

d. Who is the best player to NOT make the final in the past 2 years?

I couldn't possibly just pick one player here. There are so many great players on different teams that didn't have the chance to make the final (or the playoffs) due to different circumstances. "Best" is also relative. Highest TPE? Most points scored? Most awards won? A lot of names should be here. To narrow it down I'll just say "anyone on Toronto". (62 words)

hahahahahaha remember this task from last season? The one where everyone was like "nah we're good, tampa and BAP will be in the finals soon and you'll see that the old guard will make way for the new young teams". Now that we have the exact same fucking teams in the final again, let me ask, is parity an issue in the SHL? How do we combat this?

Are we still talking about parity and how we're going to solve this? It feels like this has been going on for so long and we've had so many discussions and so far it hasn't changed. Just look at the teams in the finals again. In my opinion it really is an issue, but I honestly have no solution for it. At least no solution that can work quickly. Then again, it's also not my job to find a solution. If people really thought that teams like TBB and BAP were going to change everything, simply because they were doing well in the regular season,... good joke. It will always be the same teams unless someone smart comes up with major changes in this league. If there are even still people left in the league at that point. If you want a parody solution, here is a new rule: teams can only win the cup once every 10 seasons. Problem solved. If they won one, they're automatically out of the playoffs the season after.

In your opinion, which team is on track to completely sell off all assets and begin a long rebuild? A few teams are already in the midst of this, but what teams are watching their window slowly close and need to get younger soon in order to start the climb back to the top?

This prompt sounds like it's made for Toronto. Our window has pretty much closed last season and now we're here a second season in a row without a GM at the end of the season and that was pretty much the nail in the coffin. We've had a good window and I think many seasons were wasted because we were in the same division as Hamilton, Buffalo and Chicago and simply had no chance to win. That one year where we miraculously made the playoffs and Chicago didn't was our one chance, but since we have to go through either HAM or BUF every time, there really was no chance. The team was good - on paper - but now it's time to sell of assets and start another rebuild. I've been there since we started the previous one in 2019. It took much too long and it didn't really lead us anywhere and it wasn't even our fault. Sounds like a bad TV drama really :(

Team Winland is on the rise, we've seen this in the WJC in the last few seasons and in IIHF more recently with the "senior" team winning their first medal in forever. This tournament they're going to win another one, but they already have bronze, so they would like a different one. I predict Finland to make it to the finals at least, with the help of their new rookies. Who's gonna suck? Let's look at the IIHF rankings. Finland has made a jump of +5 ranks while Japan has dropped from 1st to 4th. I predict that Japan is going to suck more this time and drop even further down.

I do think that parity is an issue in the SHL. I haven't been here for very long, but it's been long enough to see where the problem lies. Honestly, it lies with GMs. The difference between a great GM, a good GM, and a not-so-good GM is very noticeable in how well they effectively abuse the sim. FHM likes certain stats on players, so all the players pump said stats. FHM then likes certain tactics with said stats, so you use those too. I know that HO has said that they are pretty sure that they have found some things they can change about the usage of FHM to combat this problem. I'm hoping to see what those are sooner rather than later, because I do think FHM is a much more interactive way to have the sim league exist than the previous sim option. I also think that moving to a new version of FHM might help combat the issue a bit as well, if the league were to decide to do it. FHM8 looks pretty promising, but holding out for FHM9 might be the move.

I'm pretty sure Chicago is getting up there in terms of player age. I don't think they'll sell off the assets quite yet, as they're still a very strong team, but it does feel like it's inevitable in the not-so-distant future. However, it's clear that their performance that their staff is intelligent, so I don't think it'll be too much of a problem when that does happen. Sure, they'll have some bad seasons, but they'll rebuild and retool into a powerhouse again. I think Calgary may end up needing to do this as well. Calgary does have a lot of young blood on the team, but they have a lot of old blood too. It's really a question of how much longer the older players can keep contributing while the younger players build up their stats. I suppose it's possible that there are other teams that will be entering into this phase as well, but these two seem the most obvious of the bunch to me, personally.

I care way more about the WJC, and that's because both I'm playing in it and UCORCAL seems to look like one of the strongest teams on paper. I have yet to get a WJC medal, and I'm really hungry for one. I know Russia isn't great in the IIHF, so I feel like my only real shot at getting any sort of accolade is by winning a medal in the WJC. I think this is the season that it might finally happen, because seriously, we look fucking sick. We just need everything to come together correctly and we should walk to a medal. I really hope this happens because I'm super excited about it and I'm ready to have my player contribute to this achievement.

Well, the first thing I'd do if I were to go back in time is to alter my predictions for S62 when we get there. All I'd do is parlay my bets because I actually ended up hitting on all 3 regular season picks, and it looks like I'm going to hit on my finals pick as well. I didn't expect to actually have that happen this season, as I did expect it in S61, so I'd like some more money for that. I might also slightly alter some of my player's stats, since I was capped anyway so I couldn't really change the order in which I applied them. I'd somehow manage to convince HO to let us have injuries turned on so Lev Lebedev could have his legs taken away from him and stop dunking on the entire SMJHL in S62. No, I don't hate Lev, but I do think having injuries on would be interesting if we could afford to have replacement players. Maybe if every player had a backup assigned with a percentage of their actual players TPE? Anyway, I'm getting off track. Besides this, I wouldn't really change anything else, at least not that I can think of.
