Its that time of the year again, your favourite time of the year.. The San Francisco Pride internal awards show! This time around we are combining the awards show with the naming of our S63 captaincy. It was another tough season for the growing members of the Pride, with the pacific division being an absolute bloodbath. It wasn't without some high points however, with multiple players putting up historic seasons. Today we are gathered here on Pier 39 in beautiful San Francisco to celebrate those players. Let us get on with the awards show!
----------
The Kelly Rivet Award The first award we are handing out tonight is the Kelly Rivet Award. The Kelly Rivet Award is awarded each season to the most valuable player on the Pride as voted on by his/her peers. It is named after the legendary hard-nosed forward Kelly Rivet, a player that was instrumental in creating the identity and spirit of this team in the early days. And the nominees are… F: Sven Svenson @LordBirdman F: Jack Klompus @Toast G: Nicolae Antonescu @Rancidbudgie Since the inception of this award, Svenson has been a name that has been associated with this award. For the second season in a row now he has been the teams top scorer. Sven leads this team both on and off the ice and has been a core pillar of the Pride for half a decade now. With his team leading 35 goals last season, his leadership and his physical style of play, he is a given nominee for the Rivet award. Next up we have Jack Klompus, a new addition for the S62 season. Klompus was traded to the Pride before the start of the season to much fanfare and he proved he was the real deal very quickly. He slotted into the top 6 instantly and came out of the season with a team leading 67 points, the first time in his career he achieved a point per game status. He almost tripled his point production from his previous season with the rebuilding Manhattan Rage and frankly, I'm at a loss at how he was not even nominated for the Richan this season. Finally we come to a familiar name for anyone who has been following the SHL over the last couple of years, the Pride goalie Nicolae Antonescu. Antonescu has over the last couple of season proven without a shadow of a doubt that he is amongst the best goaltenders in this league and has managed to put up some fantastic numbers even on a rebuilding and struggling San Francisco team. This season is no different with Antonescu putting up another solid performance in net for the Pride. And the winner is... Sven Svenson ----------
The Geronimo Otto Award Our second award for the evening is the Geronimo Otto award, an award that recognizes the leaders on our team. It is awarded to someone who not only shows the qualities of a leader on the ice and in the locker room but also off of the ice and in our community. The award is named after the much loved forward Geronimo Otto, still one of the most beloved players in franchise history. And the nominees are... D: Rikard Bjerg @AgentSmith630 F: Jack Klompus @Toast F: Kev Kevens @Keven This is always a tough award for the voters and this year was no different. Six different players received nominations from their fellow players, the most out of any of the awards, and I must say that we are truly lucky to have such a fantastic group of guys on this roster. The first name on our list is a familiar name to any fan of the Pride. Rikard Bjerg has been quietly patrolling the backline for the Pride now for quite some time and while he has so far failed to garner much attention from the rest of the league so far he has been a fan favourite for some time. Throughout his time with the pride he has been a quiet leader on the ice but outspoken in the locker room, the kind of player that you truly need in order to go far in this league. Klompus has already been mentioned in this award show and it shouldn't be surprising to anyone that has followed the team this season or been a part of the locker room. It was immediately obvious from day one that Klompus was going to be a great fit with the rest of the group and as soon as he came into the room he stepped into a leadership role both on and off the ice and quickly became one of the loudest and most appreciated voices in the room. Anyone who has shared a locker room with our last nominee will not be surprised at all to see the next name on here, and that name is Kev Kevens. Kevens has slowly but surely become an integral part of this locker room and there is always a smile on his face which is always appreciated by his teammates as well as the staff. And the winner is... Rikard Bjerg ----------
The Jack Tanner Award Next up we have the Jack Tanner award. This award is handed out to the most underrated player on the team as voted on by his/her peers. It is also worth noting that this award takes into account both on-ice and off-ice contributions to the team. Named after the recently tired defenseman Jack Tanner, a player that might be one of the most criminally underrated players in recent history. And the nominees are... D: Alex Petrenko @traphag F: Henrik Lekberg Osterman @Thatguy91 D: Parker Smeb @O4L Over the last couple of seasons, Petrenko has established himself as one of the premier defensive defensemen in the league and this season was no different. In hind-sight this might seem like a strange nomination as Petrenko won the Biscuit this season, but our voting for this award happened before the awards were posted. With 29 points and some very impressive defensive stats, Petrenko added another impressive season to his resume in S62. Next up we have HLO, one of the oldest players on the Prides roster. While he has never truly been a superstar, Lekberg Osterman has always been a solid presence on both ends of the ice for San Francisco and this season was no different. While his production and physicality was down compared to what it has been in recent times, he took another step towards mentoring the younger players and played a very responsible game, only racking up 4 Penalty Minutes in the whole season. Finally we come to Parker Smeb, another player that was added in the off-season. The veteran defenseman has been great for Chicago for many years now and proved he still has what it takes to be a force in this league in his most recent stint with the Pride. He tallied 10 goals and 45 points with the team. Whenever Smeb stepped on the Ice, he delivered and he quickly became a fan favourite in San Francisco. Its a shame that we were not able to keep him around for another season. And the winner is... Parker Smeb ----------
The Pride of the Pride Award Finally, we come to the last award that we will be handing out tonight. The Pride of the Pride award is handed out to a member of our club that best personifies the things that we strive for as a team and a community. It is awarded to the player that best exemplifies important attributes such as camaraderie, friendship, kindness, sportsmanship and team spirit. The voting for this award also included a short written justification for your selection. And the nominees are... F: Jack Klompus @Toast F: Kev Kevens @Keven F: Walton Stromberg @sulovilen For the third time tonight we see Toast pop up as a nominee for an award, which is quite amazing and tells you a lot about just how big of an impact he has made on his fellow teammates. Everywhere he goes he has an impact and Toast has been a great addition for us and he fit right in from the get go, quickly becoming one of the most active users in our locker room. Next up we have Kev, who won this award last season. Kev has come to really exemplify this award and what we want our community to strive for. He is always friendly and talkative, helpful and never gets involved in unnecessary drama. Just an all in all great person to be around. Finally we come to Sulo, someone who doesn't say all that much but is always around and again, is always friendly. He is a machine when it comes to sigs, always willing to put something together for his teammates, no matter how crazy the idea might be. And he introduced (most of) us to wordle, for which we are eternally grateful. And the winner is... Jack Klompus / Toast ----------
Please join me once again in congratulating all the nominees are winners! I know I say this every year but its truly been a wonderful journey for me to see this team grow and take shape into what it is now when it had such a rough and uncertain rebuild. Thanks for making it all worth while guys and gals! This wraps up our show here tonight folks, thanks for stopping by. Stay tuned for our captaincy announcement! ----------
Its a great honour for me to announce to you all the Captain and our 3 alternate captains that will represent the San Francisco Pride in S63!
Captain
Jack Klompus - @Toast
Seems like all I am doing in this post is praising Toast, but in all honesty its well earned. He came into our locker room was it was just clear from day one that it was going to be a great fit. We couldn't be happier to have him on our team. He brings positivity and a new way of thinking to our team and our front office that has really helped to stimulate things. Congratulations on the C Toast, its well deserved! Alternative Captains Sven Svenson - @LordBirdman Walton Stromberg - @sulovilen This season we are back to having two alternative captains, as is traditionally the way things are done. Sven has been through it all with the Pride, from day one of the rebuild. He has been our go-to guy for production over the last couple of years and is the first player in franchise history to score 40 goals in a season, which is quite a feat. LordBirdman has been great throughout this whole period, providing some much needed locker room stability at times and really helping to cement what it means to be a captain for the Pride, so its no surprise to see him step into the role of alternate captain now that he has passed on the C to Toast. If you have spent more than an hour on the SHL site, you have more than likely seen atleast a dozen sigs that Sulo has made. His production and quality is prolific and he has set a high standard what a signature should be in our league. He is a constant presence in our locker room and brings a positive vibe to our team, always willing to help a teammate out. Stromberg has also been a stable presence on this roster for some time now and it is my hope that he will finally have a breakout year this season as he will finally become the Prides 1C. The A on his sweater is well deserved and he will carry it with pride. Thats it! As always, thanks for watching and let's go San Francisco! Roll Pride! ---------- 2000 words, ready to be graded.
