Québec City, Québec - A new season often brings new opportunities for a team. Fresh optimism, fresh belief, new players bringing fresh perspective.

The Citadelles have plenty of reason to be optimistic, after a surprise playoff run left them just one goal short of the Four Star Cup semifinals. And today, more reason for optimism, as the team leadership core was announced.

Only one position was left vacant, with the retirement of forward Jeff Hopkins.

Let's meet the leaders of the S64 Citadelles!

Captain: Aksel Fiske (@mer)

What can you say about Fiske that hasn't been said already? The heart and soul of the team tied for the team lead in points last season with 53 points, and is a team player on and off the ice. Off the ice, Fiske is a super-active and friendly locker room presence that makes QC incredibly welcoming for any player. On it, the Finnish forward led the team in assists last season, seemingly preferring to make plays for teammates over going for glory.

Also, expert finder of puppies while playing Geoguessr, and just won the WJC Spotlight Award for most dedicated user!

Main Alternate: Justin Time (@RAmenAmen)

Time is the second returner from last season's leadership core, and for good reason. He's one of the hottest goalie prospects in the league, having just been drafted 6th overall by Edmonton in the SHL draft after a pretty solid rookie season. In said rookie season, Time put up a .909 SV% and 5.99 GSAA, sixth and fifth in the league respectively, and made the SMJHL All-Rookie Team. He's also a friendly and active member of the locker room and more than deserves to maintain his status as a leader, both on and off the ice.

Home Alternate: Rylie Versi (@The Roope Hintz Effect)

The third and final returnee from last year's leadership four, and like Time an Edmonton draftee, Versi proved to be a steal of a second round pick. Very active in the locker room, he posted 24 points in his rookie season, and looks set for an expanded on-ice role. Only Fiske had more goals on this team in preseason, and Versi put up eight assists for Team USA at the recent World Juniors. Look for this forward to have a breakout season and to continue his role as a vocal leader in the locker room!

And now, the newcomer to the leadership group, stepping up to replace the retired Hopkins....

Away Alternate: Louise St. Martin (@Valpix)

In the team's poll, St. Martin won with a comfortable majority, according to the front office. A midseason free agent pickup last year and member of WJC Team Ice, she showed flashes of potential in her 31 games, and her stock shot up quickly, culminating in Toronto using a first round pick to take her. She's proven to be a vocal and active locker room presence despite her inexperience, and looks poised to be an important piece of the team's blueline.

This is looking like an exciting season for Québec City! Last year's exciting Owlets have a year of experience under their belts, and a surprise playoff run that showed they're unafraid of the bright lights. With this stable of leaders, let's see how they take that next step!

lmao WJC teams is confusing, and “FinNorLandWay Forward” is a lot to type out. Everyone pour one out for Norway.
