It is not uncommon to hear people joke about pre-season being meaningless and how meme lines don't matter. Therefore, I intend to deep dive into the pre-season standings and how they compare to the mid-season standings.

13. Anchorage 25GP 4-18-3 0.220%
14. Vancouver 25GP 4-18-3 0.220%

From these pre-season standings, we were to expect Newfoundland to come out swinging and dominate the league this season, and so far they have done it with their 24-1-1 record. Their two losses (1 in regulation, 1 in overtime) causes their point percentage to dip slight from their perfect 1.00 point percentage.

Colorado manages to move up from 6th in pre-season standings to 2nd in the standings at the time this was written.

Maine impressively moves up from 8th to 3rd.

Detroit dips slightly, after only losing 1 game in pre-season and earning a 0.857 point percentage, the team now has 8 losses (all in regulation) and a 0.692 point percentage.

Quebec City dipped slightly from 2 losses (1 regulation, 1 overtime) in the pre-season with a 0.786 point percentage to 9 losses (7 regulation, 2 overtime) in the regular season, dropping their point percentage slightly to 0.680.

Nevada stays relatively pat in the standings with a slight improvement from a 0.571 point percentage in preseason (4-3-0) to a 0.611 point percentage (13-7-7).  Half of their losses occurring in overtime certainly helps.

Kelowna sees a slight fall in the standings from 5th in the pre-season to 7th in the regular season. They currently boast a 15-8-2 record with a 0.640 point percentage.

Regina has made some gains moving from 13th in the pre-season standings to 8th in the regular season standings. In pre-season they managed a 1-6-0 record with a 0.143 point percentage. Now they have a 11-10-3 record with a 0.521 point percentage.

Great Falls has fallen behind the pace they set in the pre-season where they went 5-2-0 for a 0.714 point percentage. Currently, they sit at 10-14-2 and a 0.423 point percentage.

Anaheim remains in the same place in the standings (10th). In pre-season, the team went 2-4-1 with a 0.357 point percentage. Currently, Anaheim is 8-13-3 with a 0.396 point percentage.

Carolina is another team in the same relative place in the standings but have seen a noticeable improvement in their point percentage. In pre-season, Carolina went 2-5-0 and earned a 0.286 point percentage. Now, Carolina is in 11th place, has a 8-14-2 record and 0.375 point percentage.

St. Louis has dropped from 9th place in pre-season with a 3-4-0 record (0.429 point percentage) to 12th place with a 8-18-0 record and 0.308 point percentage. The team has been unlucky in having all of its loses occur in regulation.

Anchorage has fallen slightly behind in regular season compare to how they ended pre-season. Anchorage had a 0.286 point percentage in pre-season (2-5-0 record) and now has a 0.220 point percentage (4-18-3 record).

Vancouver may be listed last in the standings but have the same record as Anchorage.  Their 0.220 point percentage is still an improvement after going through pre-season without any wins or points.

Overall, I would say that Pre-season was a good preview for how teams would perform. Of course the pre-season standings did not match every team in the regular season as there were some team teams sliding up or down. However, I think Pre-season standings did a good job giving us an idea of which teams would be top or bottom teams this season.
