(GRADED)Deep Dive #1 - Carolina Kraken Defensive Analysis

This is going to be an analysis of my first J's team that probably could have used a shutdown defenseman this year. Sitting at just 2 places out of last in the league with a goal differential of -61 (123 for and 184 against), I was curious as to where they could improve going into their next season to bounce back from the mighty days of S50-S52. I wanted to take a look specifically at their blue line to see if that is holding back their play.

Currently the Kraken have 7 defensemen that have played for them on their roster this season. 3 of those players are in their rookie season and are being started every night. Their second highest TPE defenseperson is currently playing on the wing. This means that the entire left side of the defense are being played by rookies straight down all the pairs. This right here opens up an avenue for team's with experienced offensive to exploit. The rookies down the left are all lacking stamina and have not hit the sweet spot of 14. If my fhm knowledge is anything, that means that they are not replenishing between games and back to backs are crushing them. Without knowing the specifics of who is likely to be called up to the majors next season. This could mean a nice rebuild for the young defensive core for the Kraken.

If we look at the breakdown of skills of these defensemen we can dive a little deeper into the defensive capabilities of each of the members. Right now the two rookies, Pass Forfeit and Scott Stevens are more heavily specced into offensive powerhouses and probably will continue to build into some more offense before the end of this season to try and help open up the scoring for this Kraken team. Dork Doppler being a recent create means he still has to.s to build into what the team needs. Nolan Krewe hasn't updated or visited the site since the end of March so it's probably safe to say that if this trend continues they are going to be looked at to replace. That being said, this player has been on The ice laying down hits and shot blocks at a much higher rate than the other rookies.

Of the vets, Eddie Kastraba is built for more defense than offense. Considering this isn't Dave's first rodeo he is building with a defensive player in mind and not spreading stats out in an even distribution like the other two players. Seems to be first time creators that can't help but want to pursue even numbers and that's what a lot of Carolina D seems to have. With a lot of jack of all trades and not many focusing specifically on defense In conclude that the  Carolina Kraken need a few defensemen that are focused specifically on defense. More checking, more strength, more balance, more overall bravery. Get those guys in the way of the other team.
