Hugh Jazz during his SHL Career was one of the best players in the league. He came into the league as a forward, and he earned the rookie of the year award. When the switch to FHM happened, he then went on to become one of the better defensive forwards in the league and was a good glue guy that help his teammates get points and lead to scoring titles. He wasn't a physical forward during his time, he was more of a Jere Lehtinen type, where he would dominate the game by winning puck battles, creating space for his teammates, and being a guy that would be the unsung hero of the team instead of the main star. A lot of people appreciated him and his play and Hamilton wouldn't be as successful early on in his career without him. He knew that and that's why they decided that moving to D would be a good decision for him.

Then the coaching staff saw that he can be an S+ tier defense man and decided that he might be better off suited to move to the backend. He then went on to be nominated for a defenseman of the year, multiple times. He went on to have 3 60 point seasons during his peak, and in one season he managed to be +69 which is an impressive feat or a nice feat one could say. He was a team-first player and I think you can tell by the fact that he managed to win championships during his career and he went on other cup runs where he managed to not win the cup but there were a lot of lessons during that time. He was doing this while helping the Hamilton Steelhawks become champions in the league for 6 seasons. In the last couple of seasons, you could see his play drop and it dropped fast as he was getting old as he played a lot of hockey during his career. During the fHM era, he managed to rack up 180 games played in the playoffs which is almost an extra three seasons of games compared to someone who wouldn't have the playoff runs that he had.

Hugh Jazz didn't have a long career or a career that had an impressive peak where he was one of the best players in the world. He was more of the team first, let's go and win some championships, play good hockey and make sure everyone on the team is happy and make sure everyone is getting the results that they want. He was the guy you wanted out there defending a lead, not creating a lead. He made smart decisions with the puck and I think he might be one of the underappreciated players in the SHL. He had some impressive corsi numbers during his career and he retired as one of the highest +/- players in league history which should make a strong case for the hall of fame,
