S65 PT #1: Inspiration

Jaeger’s inspiration is and always has been his father, former SHL forward, Hunter Jones. He grew up around the rinks with his father and always watched him during the tail end of his career in Europe. He loved having his dad around when he began playing hockey and while he spent a lot of his pre-draft interviews pushing to become his own player and not be compared to his father, Jaeger uses his father as his inspiration everyday. To surpass what his father did and create a new bar for the Jones family in the SHL, would be a dream come true for Jaeger and is the bar he strives to reach everyday as his big-league career begins in Winnipeg. He has been quoted multiple times of his excitement he had before his SHL debut and how he was “so proud” to have his family, and his father, in the stands watching him not only achieve his goals but take the first step to passing his father.

The New Orleans Specters' star player Valtterri Kauppinen has always been obsessed with anything speed related, outside of hard drugs... or has he? Either way, he was one of those kids who grew up watching race car drivers, track stars, marathon runners, and everything in between. When his parents introduced him to an ice rink, and he realized how fast he could go on the ice, he was absolutely fixated on doing something with that gift of speed. Ice hockey, whether it be at the Finnish national level in Liiga, over in North America as a player in the Simulation Hockey League, or even in the Victory Hockey League, wherever the hell they're based, was Valtterri's newfound passion and obsession. As he worked his way through the Simulation Major Junior Hockey League system, his speed may have peaked relatively slower compared to the rest of the league, but his intangibles and other skills are up there with the best.

Having grown up in some of the poorer streets of London, Robert E. O. Speedwagon learned early on a couple of things: to be rough, to survive, and to make good allies. A good friend was worth the risk, and it was worth making quality friends, even in the gutter. In his older youth years, he would even come across a wealthier young man who had deigned to grace his Ogre Street neighborhood with his presence. He thought little of the man...until he put on an honorable display in combat against his gang. Seeing a true gentleman shine through in a dark circumstance, Speedwagon ordered his men back off, and helped how he could. Seeing the light...and seeing how this was no life to lead, even taking the high road as often as he could, he found a more useful outlet for his pent-up frustrations, and a more constructive means of trying to get ahead in life. Something that wouldn't require too much education. So he took to hockey, a sport that wasn't already poisoned by ruffians or snobs as were more popular sports in the UK. In taking up the sport, he found his people once more.

Why did your player want to play hockey to begin with? What drew them to the game? Was it a supportive parent? A Hall of Fame hero? Maybe it's just the sound a skate makes when it cuts into the ice? What is it about hockey that's so special to your player? (150+ words)
Jolmi Kovi, the Simulation Hockey League prospect of the Calgary Dragons and Simulation Major Junior Hockey League player on the Colorado Raptors, has had many reasons in his life as to why he wanted to grow up and be a professional hockey player in the Simulation Hockey League his whole life. One of the first things that pushed Jolmi Koivu into the professional hockey player path is is upbringing. Growing up in Canada it is no surprise that Jolmi Koivu was exposed to hockey at a young age, just like every other kid. The main difference is that as Jolmi got older it became apparent that he was always a cut above his peers at every level, with professional hockey expectations since he was a kid. It was also a big impact that his father was very into hockey and pushed his son to get into the sport. Growing up hockey played a big part in Jolmi's social life pushing him further and further towards hockey. It is clear that he never really had any other goals or ambitions growing up, he was destined to be a hockey player. (190 words)

A question Rand is often asked is why did you start playing hockey of all games? Was it a supportive parent, a hall of fame hero, or even the sounds of a skate makes as it slices through the ice? What is it about hockey that is so special to Rand that makes him put all this time and effort into it even when he should be taking his time saving the world. Simply put the answer is the love of the game. He grew up shooting long arrows, but once he spontaneously came to be teleported to this realm and saw the game he instantly fell in love. The speed, the strength, the skill, it was like a war on ice, going through the ups and downs of the game. The peak moment was watching a Texas Renegades forward, Saku Perhonen score five goals for the first time in SHL history during his first hockey game he ever saw. He witnessed true history and knew some day he would make it for himself.

“The Wheel of Time turns, and Ages come and pass, leaving memories that become legend. Legend fades to myth, and even myth is long forgotten when the Age that gave it birth comes again. ... There are neither beginnings nor endings to the Wheel of Time. But it was a beginning.”

at first cloudera really love to play sport that he love from kid, football and basketball, but to bad that when he's in highschool he playing well with both sports, and lost a place to be player in his school team. One day he see japan national ice hockey team playing in asian winter games and love the game, he started to learn how to ice skating first, then after a couple of month he leearn how to play ice hockey. After a couple of years in his highschool year learning ice hockey, when he attend college luck come to him, his college ice hockey team have opening in their roster and cloudera do some trial with the team. Couple of week after the trial cloudera called by his ice hockey college team to compete in national ice hockey league. That's the story how cloudera first know ice hockey and started to play

It was a destiny that was meant to be. Every since he caught a sight of the SHL finals back in his childhood, the intensity of the game captured young MInamino's attention and his dreams. He had hopes of wanting to step onto the ice donning the gear of a hockey player but never was afforded the opportunity to be able to do such a thing given how inaffordable hockey can be. At first his thought was to be a goaltender yet that would only exacerbate the necessary costs to get into the sport. As a result, the Minamino family decided against his enrollment into any on ice programs, and it quickly fell into being a dream again. It wasn't by chance when he was invited to be part of the high school program given his other athletic accomplishments where his reputation exploded as a player with little background as a hockey player, but still found a way to take advantage of his strengths as an athlete in being a domineering hockey player. From there, finding himself as a late pick as a project in the SMJHL draft, history has continued to write itself.

Fdam Aoote first wanted to start playing hockey after watching game tape of his parents' childhood hero, Adam Foote. You see, Fdam is not from any family. He is from the most rabid and dedicated Quebec Nordiques/Colorado Avalanche household of all time. Where most children inherit a surname from their parents, Fdam was named uniquely after Adam; one of his parents' heroes. His siblings names are Soe Jakic and Ratrick Poy. Ratrick is especially displeased with her name, and has been seeking to change it to something more feminine and less obnoxious. Unlike his siblings however, he has fallen in love with the sport nearly as much as his parents have. Seeing the Avs title run and Foote hosting Lord Stanley over his head awoke a passion in Fdam; despite having not been alive for the event. He practiced, and practiced and practiced. While Fdam is not the greatest skater or most talented with a puck; he will work everybody else out of the ice. He's a real gym rat.

Prompt 1

Jeff, while he says he was just drawn to the game from the beginning, actually wasn't a huge fan of the game from day 1. The main reason he kept playing was that his older brother Chris played it and was far better on the ice than Jeff, which drove him to keep playing and to be better than his brother. They say competition brings the best out of everyone, and in this case that is certainly correct as Jeff ascended above his brother at the age of 7 and was by then addicted to the game itself over just the competition. He still plays one on ones against his brother to this day, and while Jeff is a player in the SHL the matches are still very close due to the way his brother's game counters his and how well Chris knows Jeff's game. "The best defender I've ever played against is my brother", he said in an interview just this past season.

Isabella started her playing hockey because of her father, whom is a long-time ice hockey coach in the Vancouver, Canada region.  Isabella started playing at the age of 3 and never really looked back. Ever since she laced on the skates, it’s been love at first glide. There’s something magical about the first fresh cuts into the clean ice, and the slide as your blades cut into the surface. Isabella definitely got her creativity from her mother though.

Isabella can credit her start in professional hockey to her father as well. Through many years of hard work, her father found himself with an opportunity to join the Vancouver Whalers organization. And through that, Isabella found herself with access to some of the best developmental trainers and experts within the hockey world - people who have worked with many generation of SHL stars. Yet still, Isabella biggest supporter and whom she credits with her incredible work ethic, is her father.

The crowd is ready for another long season in Chicago. And this year, it feels even more special. Tonight before we raise a banner for our previously won Challenge Cup Championship. In that moment for Kickz Jr, there is a moment of reflection. How is is that it took so long for such an old SHL family to make it to the mountain top? And why does it feel like tonight is so special. Kickz Jr. grew up knowing that an SHL star was what he wanted to be. He spent years inside SHL locker rooms with his father. He spent time with the Wolfpack early in their time in the league. Seasons with the Manhattan Rage, one of the leagues earliest franchises. And yet, here was Kickz Jr, about to step on the ice in Chicago with a whole new respect for what it feels like to really have achieved a life long dream and the ultimate hockey goal. Sometimes, it doesn’t feel real that growing up watching his father fail to achieve such success, that he could manage to find that for himself. So we tap our sticks and reminisce about all the time we had as a hockey family and head out onto home ice to finally be crowned Challenge Cup Champions.

My player hails from a part of England that is more well known for its fishing, blue collar workers and generally guys you'd love to have a pint with after work. Hockey isn't thought of much in Eastbourne, let alone a country which has a love for football. But sometimes big name players show up in the paper and big events get mentioned. For my player, it was a chance meeting with a kid wearing a Buffalo Stampede hat in downtown London on a field trip that got him interested and he fell in love with the speed, the strength, the power of hockey. Playing 'the beautiful game' let him explore tactics, strategy and agility not seen on a football pitch and explore different cultures in a place where you don't get a lot of that.

He had always been a different kind of kid and playing hockey set him aside from his friends, family and fellow residents. It proved you could be more than what people typecast you to be. Something he keeps in mind every time he steps on the ice in Edmonton, he does it for every kid who aspires to be something different.

Igor Victory has teamed up with the organization called Children's Hockey Ultimate Mega Power Show or CHUMPS for short. You see CHUMPS has a goal of getting every kid into the hockey world. It's a lofty goal and they often fail. But that's okay, that's part of the lessons they teach kids. Failure happens, but you have to keep your head up and keep trying. CHUMPS hosts a youth training camp every month across North America. It's invitation only and only offers kids from other states/provinces the priority to join the camp first. It's also a huge tourism driver as every kid wants to be a CHUMP. When they asked Igor Victory if he would be the CHUMPS key note host for the event happening in Philly, he immediately knew he had to do it. He started thinking about what he could teach the kids to do, and what kind of drills he could set up so the kids learned. Well, in the end, he had a little too much fun the night before and overslept for his CHUMPS seminar. But it's okay, he showed up late, and showing up is half the battle, kids.
