The Maine Timber as we know them:

Over the past few seasons the Maine Timber have been trending upwards, sprouting up, if you will. They managed to secure and eighth overall place in standings in season sixty-one which unfortunately due to the inane playoff seeding wasn’t enough to secure a postseason berth. However, the very next season they improved to a six place finish and were rewarded with a playoff matchup against the Anaheim Outlaws (re Yukon Malamutes) and even managed to win that series before being swept by the eventual Four Star champs and budding rivals - the Newfoundland Berserkers. Over the next few seasons the Maine Timber would continue to improve and grow into a perennial contender, placing as high as second overall multiple times. Though their newly forged path to contention has been laid during the regular season the Maine Timber have struggled with varying levels of playoff success, making it to the conference finals only once that was ended by yet another heartbreaking defeat by none other than the Newfoundland Berserkers who took the series in four short games, and another first round exit at the hands of the Carolina Kraken who stole the best-of-seven contest in only six.

Though the losses have been felt heavy around the Timber they still manage to build a strong croster through the draft, adding key members to round out the hopeful core. Newcomers Emil Egli, Nibbles the Squirrel and Sir Devoir have brought speed and agility to the group as they try to solve the riddle of the Newfoundland Berserkers. Hot starts from Iam Downski, Gravy Train and Mads McBride have the Timber sitting at second place yet again at the one-third mark through the season. Their rivals from Terre Neuve have earned fourth place with two games in hand. If the hockey gods have their way these two will meet in the post season as the Maine Timber try yet again to best the Berserkers.

Newfoundland’s recent success:

It’s hard to say that Maine is Newfoundland’s only rival, mostly because they’ve been so good that pretty much anyone would consider themselves a rival. The Zerks have won the Four Star Cup an astonishing three times in a row - losing only game in the final round in that time span. Let me say that again - twelve wins, one loss. When everything is on the line there isn’t a better team. Period. Not only has Newfoundland’s success in the finals been incredible they have a knack for clean floors too. Since the season sixy-one postseason they have swept a series five times. In a possible twelve matchups they didn’t give up a single game in five of them. The dominance of the Berserkers has been (presumably) record setting. They don’t even rely on star power to get them there either - they have scoring all down the lineup. In season sixty-four they had eleven players with at least ten points in seventeen playoff games.

Will this be the year that the Berserkers fall? Probably, because they sniff farts.

Is it a rivalry when it's just you getting beat down over and over?

“The Wheel of Time turns, and Ages come and pass, leaving memories that become legend. Legend fades to myth, and even myth is long forgotten when the Age that gave it birth comes again. ... There are neither beginnings nor endings to the Wheel of Time. But it was a beginning.”
