As we stood on the brink of the SMJHL playoffs, the atmosphere around the Timber was actually surprisingly light. Some might even call it quiet confidence as we took the ice for an optional morning skate. While the players enjoyed an unsupervised romp by clowning around to release pre-playoff jitters, the coaches were hard at work watching tape and formulating a game plan. It was a tale of two worlds, one joking and having fun, and the other deadly serious.

Later that afternoon, the coaches called a team meeting and that's when shiznit got real. The lighthearted chuckles were gone as we began pouring over our individual assignments.

Head Coach: "Okay, see that right there? We gotta watch out for that aggressive forecheck! They love to get on you quick and make you play with your face up against the glass! Forwards, you gotta slow down their zone entry to give our defense a chance to turn! You got it?"

Forwards: (In unison) "Got it coach!!"

Head Coach: "Good! Be sure to screen 'em off, otherwise we could be in for a long night!"

And so it went for the next several hours, until we had covered every conceivable facet of game one... In addition, the crowd was certain to be beyond wild, so we had to focus and stick to the game plan without getting swept away by all the extra emotion. "Use it to your advantage," coach said. "But don't try and do too much out there!"  Timber

The coach is making us run drills until we puke. Jobin is getting ready to save everything by juggling bouncing balls off a wall back to himself. He does it for 4 hours a day. This is on top of the drills that are making us vomit. The D core is going through video training pre and post puke. Tactics are crucial. Bojack Calhoun has been wearing sunglasses and sleeping through every video session. Antonio Flusso has been styling his moustache to look good on national television. The leading scorers of the team are taking this time to rest and relax. Not one instance of nauseous outburst among the top 3 scorers on the team. It's believed that management has been sending vague threats to the other team, trying to get players to either defect or at least not show up to the games. But the most important thing is that we have fun. It's a game at the end of the day and this is potentially a once in a lifetime chance to compete the SMJHL playoffs. So really, we're all just getting ready to go out there and have a good time. And threaten the other team.

The Yukon Malamutes will be taking on the SMJHL giants, the Newfoundland Berserkers. Even though Newfoundland had a rough season and one we’re not accustomed to, no one is taking them lightly.

The very first thing the coaching staff got the players to do was download Duolingo. However, after realizing that there were no classes on the app to learn “Newfie”, that idea was quickly abandoned. However, you do hear the occasional “G’wan”, "Who knit ya? and “Whatta yat? Is ya ‘ard at it all de time or was?” coming from the back of the locker room as a few of the players are still committed to break down the language barrier. No one has the heart to tell them that the players probably speak their native language, and not newfie though.

Otherwise, the rest of the team is onto a new task, which is learning the words to the Falcons goal song. Say bro, (yeah) where you get them from? Detroit? (Yeah) that machine gun, spray boy. The plan is to erupt on the bench and sing it every time we score, hopefully triggering some PTSD and win the mental battle while the game is going on.

If all else fails, the plan is to pass the puck to Oles Kobliska, Billy Blazes, Reed Kobo, or Lucas Percy. They’ll handle the rest from there!

The nasty sea cows Whalers have been preparing all season for the playoffs, Anotino FLusso is just unstoppable he doubled his panzarotti intake, the coach has been waking us up at 4am to do wind sprints in our jockstraps (only jockstraps). I personally have been slamming TRT and creatine into my system like gerber into a baby and come play-off time if i meet Bobby McGinnis  Grizzlies on the ice he will be destroyed, pancaked and let loose upon, I can already taste his sweat as i send him flying head over ass, go touch grass, i dont need brass, just to act crass, when bobby feels my weight he will begin to question my mass. Even though I am a rookie I cant wait to see the playoffs atmosphere and put my training it use, my strength is growing and its just not all for bobby FATginnis hopefully I can dive face first into the heaving bosom of playoff scoring!

Playoffs, something that every team strives for. Some people would say our team doesn’t deserve to be in the playoffs, but due to the structure of the playoff system, we made it in. I’m not saying they are wrong, but we have to take this opportunity and give it our all. We all know we’re a young team and we don’t have experience, but we are going to give 110% percent every night. Alvin is a good enough goalie to steal us some games and if we get hot at the right time, we could be a sleeper team to make a run. I don’t care if we win, I care if each and every person goes onto the ice and sacrifice their body for the win. If we get the mental edge, it could propel us into a new era for the Great Falls Grizzlies. Prepare yourselves Regina, even if you win this series, we’re gonna make you guys work for it.

In Carolina it was a very tough season. We have a ton of young players on the team who are just starting their development, which made for a rough go at the beginning of the season. Going into the playoffs, of course we are going to have a very difficult matchup, going up against the Vancouver Whalers, who finished 3rd in the SMJHL overall and have 2 players who finished top 10 in points (including Aleksandr Iskandrov who was tied for the lead league with 88 points).

That being said, we know we are the severe underdog in this matchup, but we know that this is a great opportunity and anything can happen come playoff time. We had some success playing against Vancouver down the stretch of the season, so we know that if we continue to play good hockey, we could keep up with them. And if anything happens and we are not able to pull it off, it gives us a great opportunity to learn from this, especially as a team with so much young talent developing together. Even with a bad season, we still have an opportunity to upset some playoff contenders and go far, so we’re going to try and tighten up our game and hope we can string something together.

Thanks to a much better second half of the season, me and the rest of the Quebec City Citadelles are able to enjoy a bye to the second round. Its a doubled edged situation to be in though. On one hand you get to rest up, heal any lingering injuries, and be fresh and ready to go for the second round. On the other hand though, you haven't played any games since the regular season ended and you are up against a team that is riding the highs of a first round series win.

Thankfully we have the best coaches in the league who know how to handle this situation and will have us as close to game ready as possible and this team has the confidence to take on whoever it might be. We will review game tapes of all potential match ups, run scenario drills until they become ingrained, and it'll be clear to each individual what is expected of us and what our roles are. This is such a fun and loose group too that we arent over thinking it. We have our sights set on the 4 Star Cup and will be ready for game one when that night arrives.

It's been a tough season of rebuilding and youth development in Carolina, but that does not mean we are not prepared for whatever is to come our way in these upcoming playoffs. Securing the last seed of the pacific conference, it'll be a hard road to begin with, especially being put up against the Vancouver Whalers, one of the more offensively powerful teams in the league. Aleksandr Iskandrov will be arguably the biggest threat the Whalers have, as he tied for number one point scorer in the league over the past 66 regular season games. Not to be underestimated, they also bring Benjamin Surkhi-Ze'ev, who came second for goal scoring with 40 goals over the season. It is no doubt that with a team as young as Carolina, a win over the Vancouver Whalers will not be considered anything less than one of the biggest upsets we may see over these playoff games.

The Grizzlies have been getting ready for the playoffs by trying to get some nice rest and relaxation in before the grueling series that is to come. Bobby McInnis tried to hold a team meeting by when his voice cracked within the first 15 seconds, the team lost interest and went to the showers.

Nino Di Giuseppe decided to help out Bobby McInnis and started to join him during his workouts. The two men now like to lift weights together, both of them with their tarps off with loud house music playing.

The locker room is loose and relaxed but also focused. They know there isn’t much pressure on them to win it all and most are using this playoff run as some much needed experience to come back stronger next season. There are a lot of first year players on this Great Fall team and they face an uphill battle going up against the strong Regina Elk team.

When your team doesn't make the playoffs you can sit around and mope, or you can take the time in the offseason to reflect on what you can do better. I know exactly what I personally need to do in order to help my team do better next season, I need to really buckle down and step up my game for one but I think lots and lots of film watching. I  Might get lucky and have a few teammates join me for the offseason! I'm not the best at inviting people but if you're one of my teammates on the Kelowna Knights and you're reading this feel free to PM me and we can work on getting better for next season together!

May not have had the strongest season performance but it definitely wasn't disappointing! Imagine what we can do after the offseason! I already can't wait! Like I said, Just gotta buckle down, really take the time to put in the hard work and let the training do all the talking!

Well the Armada have had a bit of an up and down season being below .500 for a great deal of the season. The GMs and coaches have been working very diligently to come up with some decent strats for a pretty young team with a rookie goalie. And the hard work has payed off as the Armada have finished the second half of the season strong and managed to have a winning record despite a goal differential in the negative. The Armada look to ride that late season momentum into the playoffs and just continue to do what we have done in the tail end of the season. We feel we have momentum on our side and we have full confidence in our management team. Even though we enter as the 9th best team we are looking to have a great shot at pulling the upset and getting that first round series under our belts. After that who knows, maybe the new engine will allow for surprise results just like STHS did back in the day.

So this answer may not be the most interesting or flashy but the reality is we finished 2nd overall and have the bye so we are pretty damn strong. So with that stated it is actually just business as usually. If we can do what we did for most of the season and that is defend well and score plenty then realistically we have a great shot at going rather deep in this playoff tournament. Why change anything if it is actually already working. Just keep it as I said earlier as business as usual. Past that I guess the best bet would keep on scouting the enemy and see what worked against them and what we need to really shut down in order to defeat them.

I am unsure if we can win it all but honestly it will b a fun journey regardless and I look forward to finding out. It will be interesting to see if we can keep calm and do that and keep the good times rolling.
