The Anchorage Armada drafted 6 players in the S66 SMJHL draft and signed another off waivers. The fact that the team has 7 rookies certainly did not bode well for a successful season. However the young team began to gel at the end of the season and the Armada finished with a winning record and head into the playoffs with a bit of momentum on their side looking for that first round upset. Lets take a look at that vaunted rookie class and see how they fared during the regular season.

Pick #1 D Jobin Jobin was the first overall pick as a defenseman for the Armada. He had a decent season for Anchorage with 7 goals and 18 assists for 25 points. He was 4th on the team with 64 blocked shots and also delivered 91 hits showing himself to be a well rounded defender. His tpe has lagged a bit behind his contemporaries at 206 but he should be able to close that gap up pretty easily. Overall a solid season for the 1st rounder/

Pick #2 Sean Davies Davies was the 16th overall pick at defense as the Armada decided to try and shore up the back end first in this draft. He also had a decent season with 5 goals and 21 assists for 26 points. He was 3rd on the team in blocks with 106 and threw in 100 hits as well so with their top 2 picks the Armada drafted some pretty well rounded defenders which will anchor the back end in the coming seasons. He also delivered in the tpe department as well with 272 tpe, 2nd on the Armada rookies.

Pick #3 Bruno Tooyo LW Tooyo was the first forward taken by the Armada at number 30. He was a goal scoring machine as a rookie, putting up 17 goals and 23 assists for a total of 40 points. Tooyo looks like he will be the sniper of the future for Anchorage. He is solid in the tpe department with 263 as well so the Armada will definitely be counting on his scoring touch in the future.

Pick #4 August Von Hecht Goalie Von Hecht was taken 37th overall and arguably was probably the best of the rookie class. He started in net his rookie season and went 29-25-5 starting behind a very young squad. He is a solid worker, leading all the Armada rooks with 277 tpe. It would be shocking if he didn't get serious consideration in the rookie of the year race and the Armada appear to be solid in net in the next couple of seasons ahead.

Pick #5 Dusty Rhodes Winger Dusty Rhodes was taken with the 44th overall pick. Solid season for Rhodes with 11 goals and 25 assists for 36 points. Drafted to be the physical presence for the Armada Rhodes surprisingly was one of the least penalized players on the team and his 264 tpe is pretty good for a 4th round pick.

Pick #6 John Manganelli Manganelli was selected at number 58 overall and was traded to St Louis for a future 6th round pick. He posted 21 points in his rookie season so we'll have to wait and see what the pick turns out to be to see how this affected the Armada.

Waivers Connor McKeil Center McKeil was added to the Armada through waivers and was a tremendous pickup for the team. He had 15 goals and 25 assists, tying him with Tooyo for the rookie points lead. Coming in with 243 tpe McKeil will look to build upon a great rookie season and become the franchise center.

So there you have it, a look at the baby boats. Solid job of drafting by the Armada GM team and the future looks bright indeed for the Armada.
