Deep Dive #2, Quebec's goalers legacy
#1

Jacques Plante, Patrick Roy, Martin Brodeur, Marc-Andre Fleury. since a long time ago, the province of Quebec has been renown to produce some of the best goaltenders of the real work hockey. But what about the simulation hockey? With people being able to create their players from anywhere in the world, there's no real correlation we can make between those two worlds, so let's take a dive into the closest thing I could find, the goaltenders comming from Quebec's team, the Citadels.

Since their debut in the 55th season, there has been four goalies who had the task to be the main goaltender for the Citadels. Mat Smith, who played for quebec from their first season up to S58. Tyler Ward, who played from S56 to S59. Nor Dekes, who played from S59 to S63 and Justin Time, who started in S63 and will be playing tonight against the Nevada Battleborns. Let first compare their respective career with Quebec.

Mat Smith played for a total of 135 games with Quebec, earning 74 wins, 17 of them by shutout and a 0.914 save percentage, his best season being his last one in the junior, with 23 wins, 6 shutout and a 0.918 save percentage in 34 games
Then, Tyler Ward played for a total of 122 games with Quebec, earning 73 wins, 11 of them by shutout and a 0.907 save percentage. While he got his lowest save percentage in his 3rd season, under .900, it can be argued that it was still one of his best season, with 23 wins in 33 games, 2 shutouts and a goal against average of 2.32
Third, we have Nor Dekes, the first goaltender to play for 5 seasons with Quebec. He ended his junior career with 114 wins in 208 games, a total of 12 shutouts and a save percentage of 0.907. While his mean is the same of Ward, Dekes was a more regular goaltender with seasons of 0.906, 0.908, 0.908, 0.908 and 0.904 save percentages. His best season was probably his third one, with 41 wins in 58 starts, 6 shutouts and a goal against average of 2.67.
For the last, we have Justin Time, the actual cerberus of the Citadels. So far, he played a total of 226 games in only four seasons, winning 140 of them and getting 13 shutouts but he has the lowest save percentage of all with only a 0.903. His best season could be said to have been his second with 43 wins, 4 shutouts, a 0.910 save percentage and a goal against average of 2.78 in 59 games, but he also had similar stats the season after so it's hard to say wich one was his best.

With all said, we can say with assurance that the best goaltender from the Quebec City Citadels so far is their GM and founder, Elizabeth Doyle, who not only managed to get the Rookie of the Year award in the SHL but also won 2 Challenge cups with Buffalo and is a great candidate for the hall of fame as soon as she will be able to get intronised. Sorry junior goaltenders, but it's really hard to be called the best goaltender of Quebec with that beast as GM.
