Edmonton Blizzard Season Preview
#1

None of this will have season predictions or mentions of other teams. This is me getting excited about all the people we brought in and talking a bit about them as well as how amazing the "old guard" aka our prospect pool is. With that, I digress.

To say we sucked last year is an understatement. But it was expected, going through a year of pain and agony was on our agenda. Sadly, so was losing long team Edmonton Blizzard, fan favourite Kyle Sutton. To call him loyal is an insult to the integrity and fidelity he showed to our team, he never waivered and retired an Edmonton Blizzard lifer. To this, we can but thank the incredible contributions he showed and acknowledge that we will be much sadder not seeing him don the Blue and White this season.

However, often with change comes excitement in other areas. Edmonton managed to pull in some new faces who will be featured in the SMJHL and SHL this season.

Jayden Cloutier was an acquisition from New England brought in to shore up our blueline. He brings a solid two way approach specializing in the offensive side of the puck and should be feature on our blueline this season!

Rylie Versi is making his way from the Quebec City Citadelles and joining our team this season! A playmaker on the wing with a solid ability to play in his own end, Versi should be a piece to watch.

To say Justin Time had a great SMJHL career in an understatement. Top five all time in SMJHL wins, Time is just in time joining this Blizzard organization as they look to move up the standings on the back of his goaltending.

Mrs McSaves, making her second position swap in 3 seasons will be joining our blueline as well, looking to shut down the opposition as she moves from forward.

Jannik Nordstern is a high end bottom pairing defenseman who is beloved when he was a bigger presence here. Look for him to lock down the paint.

Robert Black is another Newfoundland Berserkers alumni (like Jannik Nordstern) who should play a pivotal role as a pivot this upcoming season.

Aleks Blixstrom might be the team's best defender coming into this season and is a force on both sides of the ice. I expect amazing things from him.

Buck Keithley was acquired over in a trade from Minnesota and looks to continue his offensive prowess from last season.

Basil Sivart is another piece coming in to solidify what was a porous at the best of times Blizzard blueline last season.

KnockedOut ByOvechkin is making his Blizzard return on the wing and should be a solid depth piece for some secondary scoring they sorely lacked.

Jack St. Clair was drafted to the Blizzard second overall on the recommendation of former captain Kyle Sutton himself. It's clear they love what he brings and are incredibly excited for his future as a Blizzard.

Dusty Rhodes was taken with the first pick in the second round and brings a certain pugnacity that's been lacking in the Blizzard's prospect pool to date. He'll come in and kick some ass when he's good and ready.

Rush Justice is a solid up and coming two way winger who's really excited about just showing people wrong after his fall in the draft.

While new faces are always good, it's also great to see how the other have been doing.

Four Star Cup Champion Luke Laraque is entering his final season of SMJHL eligibility as a champion. An excellent offensive talent and no slouch defensively, you can imagine the Blizzard management is salivating at getting him on the ice in the blue and white.

Benjamin Surkhi-Ze'ev started last season on a tear leading the league in goals for around half the season. An amazing talent, rumours say he is the best Ben in the league.

Emil Egli is one of the premier defensive prospects in the league, possessing a towering frame and excellent instincts on both sides of the puck.

Oles Kobliska is a top flight center prospect looking to be dominant in all three zones and set up some excellent scoring chances for the wingers of the Blizzard.

To say Julian Eaglesong takes pride in their own end is an understatement. The future of the Blizzard's shutdown lines rest in their hands and they're bringing the heat.

The legendary 35 and a half million dollar man Ben Waters Jr is an icon. Everywhere he goes, he oozes the charisma and talent that make people excited to see him in action.

Patches the III sure patched a hole in the defensive prospect category when he was drafted. An excellent two way defender, Patches will be looking to bring some immense upside next season when he joins the squad.

Rafael Boeck, a midseason signing for the Blizzard came in and performed admirably showing dedication and talent.

Rand al'Thor's season was a farcry from his SMJHL days, leading defensemen in penalty minutes and putting up very few points altogether. This guy stinks and rumour had it, had 0 offers in FA.

Emeril Lagasse, another SMJHL legend and Berserker, Lagasse bakes her way into staying in the line up.

Brian Davenport is on the venerable side of the equation now coming into this young gun locker room in Edmonton but he'll prove he's still got it.

Bas O'Bigbers announced it'd be his last season but after a dominant season filled with controversy, he's looking to come in and show the league he's got what it takes to be in the MVP conversation.

Long time Edmonton Blizzard and fan favourite, Julio Tokolosh is still going and will be providing quality depth and unmatched veteran leadership this season, in his 20th SHL season.
