In today's Deep Dive, I will review the Quebec City Citadelle's selections for the S66 SMJHL Entry Draft. These evaluations will focus on the growth these second-year players have seen since the start of last year, how well they have been performing after the first month of their sophomore season, and their potential heights here in the SMJHL and SHL. Although Quebec City only selected three picks in the draft, all three picks were crucial in their deep run to the final round for the Four Star Cup.

First Round:

#6: Jack St. Clair C
Current TPE: 350

S66 Stats: 66GP, 11G, 32A, 43P, 4+/-
S67 Stats: 14GP, 4G, 8A, 12P, 0+/-

Quebec City was excited to see Jack St Clair drop this low as they pounced at the opportunity to draft him by making a trade with Regina for the 6th overall pick. Before entering the SMJHL, he is a natural center and was considered the best setup forward in the draft. During his rookie campaign, he was primarily utilized as an LW on the first line and produced at .65 points per game, finishing 4th on the team in points. He struggled in the playoffs, where his shooting percentage dropped from 11% down to only 4%, and his points per game were only .23 points. So far this year, he slid back into his natural C position and is currently anchoring the second line for the division-leading Citadelles. Jack is producing almost at a point per game pace to start the year and his underlying stats prove this is no fluke. The future looks bright for this sophomore as he provides the Citadelles with one of the strongest center duos with SMJHL leading center Sophie Bordeleau.

Grade: A

#12: Tam Kove W
Current TPE: 223

S66 Stats: 66GP, 7G, 19A, 26P, 5+/-
S67 Stats: 14GP, 2G, 8A, 10P, 14+/-

With their second pick in the SMJHKL draft, the Citadelles further fortified their offensive corp with the highly ranked winger prospect Tam Kove. He was considered tall and atheltic winger who without many weaknesses in his game. Due to some veteran players ahead of him in the depth chart, Tam was honing his skills on the third line. Even without playing as much, he was still able to produce 26 points during the entire season including a game winning goal. The postseason was a different story as shot a blazing 11% for 10 points, but more importantly understood his role with the energy line and blocked 13 shots and had 42 hits. in S67 so far, Tam has been promoted to the first line and has shown why he belongs with the top dogs. Through 14 games he has already generated 12 points, but more importantly Tam boasts a +14 which shows his complete game in both zones. Tam Kove is expected to continue to grow into a stellar pick for the Citadelles and lead them to future success.

Grade: A

Second Round:

#28 Nevek Kove D
Current TPE: 350

S66 Stats: 66GP, 7G, 17A, 24P, 12+/-
S67 Stats: 14GP, 0G, 3A, 3P, 7+/-

With their third and final pick of the draft, Quebec City drafted the brother of Tam Kove, Nevek Kove. Some say a bargain was made in order for the brothers to play together on the team, but nothing official has ever come out. Nevek came into the SMJHL has a physical specimen of a player with excellent hockey IQ. He made an immediate impact for the Citadelles in his freshman year in the league. Partnering with Nikolai Skovgaard on the second pair, these two formed a rock solid unit. Nevek boasted the second best plus minus on the team and had the most takeaways with an impressive 58 to only 20 giveaways. He continued his success as a strong rearguard in the playoffs, but wasn't able to duplicate his strong plus minus. Looking forward to his sophomore season, Nevek was voted to be an assistant captain with his defensive partner Nikolai. The top pairing have continued their excellent form to begin S67 as he possesses an impressive +7 plus minus.

Grade: A+
