One of the original SHL Teams, the Platoon have had a long and storied history as one of the premier franchises in the SHL. Home to 5 Challange Cup victories, the Platoon franchise is probably best known for their domination in the S40s - where they won 3 Challange Cups, and made the finals in 2 other appearances - Making the finals in an outstanding 5 of 7 seasons during a stretch of domination.
The Platoon have had a long string of quick GM's, followed by two long tenures in Bojo and JR95, with HHH81 in the current seat, and hopefully he continues the trend and sticks with it for a while!
Some notable players throughout the eras for the Platoon include:
Julien Marshall who was the first Platoon player to hit the 200 goal mark. Finishing with 200 goals and 236 assists in 598 games played over 12 seasons.
Zallerras Szlerchek who was the first 500 point player. Achieving this feat in 658 games over 13 seasons.
Bojo Biscuit who was unique in his impact both as a player and the user. 16 seasons played, 808 games, 94 goals (so close!), 452 assists, and over 1000 shot blocks, and just shy of 2000 hits. Bojo was the first long tenured GM on the team, with a record of 419-307-76 over 16 seasons!
Alex Light blew the goals and points records for the Platoon out of the water! He was the first (and until recently only) member to notch more than 300 goals wearing the red, white, and blue. In addition to his goals totals, he added just shy of 400 assists to show how truly dynamic he was. He played his entire 900 game career with the platoon and was a leader for them during their run in the S40s. Up until this season in fact he was the clear, undisputed best offensive player to play their career with the Platoon franchise.
Finally the last of the notable franchise players for this storied franchise is Nat Emerson. A defensive defense man by trade, Nat managed over 400 points in his career. That would be good numbers for an offensive inclined one, but Nat was always protect his own zone first. An absolute beast on the ice, he was known to be found in the ice bath for the post game media sessions due to his hard hitting, corner battle, shot blocking play style. His statistic numbers look even better when you expand on the team while Nat was playing to see that they were quite bad for most of his career. During his career the Platoon saw their franchise leading playoff drought, they were at a loss for quality players to surround himself with, but he was sure to be there, steady as an old oak supporting the back unit. Since being traded in his final season as an attempt to win him a Challange Cup, the Platoon have not replaced his vacant Captaincy. Some people in today's age don't see or understand a need for a captain. Others think it should just go to the best player. Well maybe Emerson was the best player on the Platoon for a lot of his tenure, but it was the intangibles that make him really stand out, and are a big reason why there remains that void to this day. He was a true leader on and off the ice, with a herculean presence.

I hope you enjoyed this brief History of one of the SHL's most storied franchises.
