Chainz, Zelenock Impressive Performance Falls Short Against Surging Zerks
By EmoLeBron

DETROIT, Michigan (AP) — The Falcons finally tally a regulation loss on the season when the Berserkers visited Jet Blue Airways Arena tonight. Newfoundland weathered the storm of a very physical Detroit team to complete the upset on what has been a very strong start to their campaign. Forwards Chainz and Zelenock led the way offensively with quality shifts for the Falcons but two goals by Ozolinsh and a flukey third period proved fatal.

The Falcons poured on the pressure early as it looked like another day at the office for the reigning champions. Wrexks put them up 10:42 into the first period after a routine save by Hurts and a sleeping Zerks defense sent the rebound right onto an unmarked Wrexks’ stick. A beautiful shot in the top left seemingly sent momentum straight to the home side. However, a Falcon slashing call put the Berserkers on the power play and a beautiful feed pass from O’Bigbers to Jaegerjaquez on the blue line led to the tying goal. Then in just over two minutes Ozolinsh received the pass from Beauregard at the blue line and walked in to beat Newman glove side. The teams retreated to the locker rooms after a physical first to rally for the second.

The second period was all Detroit. They ramped up the physicality and took the unraveling in their game in the first personally. Meagher and Terrace put their bodies on the line; Meagher totaled 7 blocked shots on the game and Terrace put together 7 hits. Chainz led the hits department for the team with 9 and provided quality offensive chances throughout the game putting up easily the performance of the night. Corning benefited off one of the passes Chainz fed him on the game-tying goal 4:16 into the period. Hodor capped off the second period with a nice goal to put the Falcons right back on top 3-2. Despite the Falcon effort, you could still feel the Berserker’s hunger in the atmosphere. They were not fazed by the lead-gaining goal.

4:44 into the third McKennedy won a key face-off in the Falcon’s zone and Fry ripped the puck from the top of the circle blazing past Newman and tying the game for the Zerks 3-3. As the clock ticked closer to triple zeros the Falcons could not capitalize on any chances and frustration began to mount on the bench. Then with just over 6 minutes left in the final period, Berserker rookie Mit Wobet finds Oiduser out in the open ice and is able to catch Detroit on the line change and hit who else, but Ozolinsh as he trots into the zone and buries an easy game winning goal sending the Newfoundland bench into jubilation.

The Zerks can use this game as a strong bounce-back after their embarrassing 5-2 loss in Nevada the previous game. However, they now sit at 5-2 and are first in their division after the victory over Detroit. They now return home to their eagerly awaiting fans for a 4-game home stand at Mary Brown’s Centre. Newfoundland is 2-0 at home and hopes to remain undefeated until the next road game.
