We'll have a look at the SMJHL as it currently sits around the 40-45 games played mark. With roughly 20 games left the teams are all falling into place in the standings. I'll start with the top three teams, follow up with a middle cluster of teams then discuss the teams near the bottom.

At the top of the standings is no real surprise but the Detroit Falcons sit in first with 62 points and a winning percentage of .775. They lead the league in both goals for and goals against and have a pretty healthy goal differential of 73. They have a pretty balanced scoring attack and last seasons rookie of the year candidates Billy Herrington and Tobias Wrexks are both having good follow up seasons.

In second place is the Maine Timber who are having a great season after finishing seventh overall last season. They are only three points behind for first and are being led by an impressive season by Cale Salad who, as of this writing, leads the league in both goals and points.Pawter Meowski isn't far behind sitting second for goals (one behind Salad) and second for points (seven behind Salad).

Anchorage Armada are in a solid third in the league not too far off of Maine and are in the tough Michael Fitted Division with Detroit. George Walsh has some pretty impressive numbers in goal with a goals against average of 2.37 and a save percentage of .911.

We have a rather large group of teams that are all clustered around the middle of the standings and it typically changes every sim period who sits where with lot of chance still to move up or down with the 20 or so games left. Newfoundland Berserkers (51 points), Kelowna Knights (49 points), Quebec City Citadelles (48 points), Carolina Kraken (47 points), Great Falls Grizzlies (45 points), Colorado Raptors (44 points), Nevada Battleborn (43 points), and Vancouver Whalers (41 points). Ten points separate these eight teams and throughout the season they have all been higher and lower as they jockey for position. The first five teams in this cluster all sit above .500 on the season and have a positive goal differential with the exception of Carolina who has a goal differential of 0. Nevada sits in tenth despite being over .500 and having played four less games than Colorado who sits a point up on them. The final team in this cluster, Vancouver Whalers, currently sit 11th but they have allowed 45 more goals than they have scored.

At the bottom of the standings are three teams that are really struggling. The Yukon Malamutes are having a rough season after finishing 8th in season 68. They are currently fifteen games under .500. Despite there place in the standings, goaltenders Joel Farfalle and Ryan Burton are having solid seasons.

The Regina Elk are having an abysmal season so far, a winning percentage of .269. A significant fall from finishing tied for 5th with St. Louis in season 68.

As mentioned previously, St. Louis finished tied for 5th last season but are last in the standings, last in goals for, last in goals against, last in goal differential (a whopping -104).

Regina and St. Louis will try to improve on things over the last 20 or so games here in season 69.
