Good evening ladies and gentlemen and welcome to the season 64 SHL Hall of Fame ceremony! It’s been a little bit since we last had one of these as we have built up quite a backlog but not to worry! There will be plenty of ceremonies in the coming months in order to catch us up to speed and celebrate the exceptional players of this league, those remarkable few who truly stand out from the competition and will enjoy undying fame and glory in the virtual hockey worlds equivalent of Valhalla!

Before we begin I would like to remind everyone of how the voting procedure works. Each member of the committee (in people in all) nominates 5 retired athletes from the list of eligible players and ranks them 1 through 5, which in turn gives these players points according to their rank (10 points for 1st, 7 for 2nd, 5 for 3rd, 3 for 4th and 1 point for a 5th). These points are then totalled and all players who receive 35 points or more are inducted into the hall. Also note that each voter must provide a short written piece to back up their choice.

I’d also like to take a minute to mention that if you have any critiques, criticisms or suggestions about how we could better run these events in the future you are more than welcome to message me.

We have a lot to get through tonight so let's not waste any further time and get straight into the ceremony.

We are very pleased to announce that we have three players and a GM to induct tonight, but before we announce the actual inductees of this season I’d like to acknowledge a player that did not make it into the Hall this year but still received a substantial amount of votes.

Cameron Carter II was a power forward that played most of his career during the STHS era. His heavy hitting style combined with his productivity made him a favorite among fantasy aficionados during the early S50’s. Drafted 19th overall in the S42 draft by the Manhattan Rage, Carter would go on to play over 700 games for 4 teams during his career. The majority of those games were played with the relatively new franchise, the Chicago Syndicate (Established in S46). There he would go on to be one of the teams first real super stars. His best seasons were in the early S50’s where he would win back to back Jeff Darr trophies in S51 and S52 as well as earn himself two All-Star appearances (2nd and 3rd team, respectively).

“ During his 15 season in the league he was a staple power forward that managed to make his presence felt both on the ice and on the scoreboard. During his peak seasons, S51 and S52, Carter was arguably the most complete player in the league, scoring at a point per game pace while also averaging an insane 5 hits per game. “

“ Cameron Carter II had a dynamic personality and was a media sensation, backed up his talk with exceptional play. “

Carter received a total of 25 votes, this is his last year of eligibility for the Hall of Fame.

As a previous host of this ceremony has said in the past, the thing that comes into mind when you think of Anders Christiansen is first and foremost consistency. Christiansen was never one of the foremost stars in the league but during his long career in the league he was always a player you could rely on to play responsibly in his own end and score for your team. In his 17 seasons in the SHL he never once dipped below 0.5 points per game, a very impressive feat during an era when scoring was down from where it is today. The other thing that comes to mind when you think of Christiansen is finesse. He never was a particularly physical player (at least not for his era), but he still managed to play a good two-way game and was solid as a rock on the ice every night. He had the skill and ability to play the game his way and force his adversaries to adapt to him rather than the other way around. Drafted 42nd Overall in the S39 SHL Entry Draft by the Toronto North Stars, the young Norwegian center would go on to become a quick hit in The 6, proving to be one of the biggest steals in recent draft history, before going on to play for New England, Calgary and finally finishing his career Atlanta.

“Anders has 4 nominations as a player as well as an award win, and even towards the latter end of his career was a sure thing to put up 0.5 PPG or better. His career longevity is impressive. “

“ Christansen put up most of his numbers in a harder to score era. He was recognized multiple times with several all star teams, and awards nominations. Unfortunately he was not able to lift the cup in his career, which could be attributed to playing on non powerhouse teams, which makes his point production all the better. Over 1000 hits from an era where you either hit or didn't showcase his versatility, and his minutes average shows he wasn't over played, so he produced without being spoon fed. “

Our second inductee this evening is a first ballot nominee and a name that immediately comes to mind when you think of dominant power forwards in the late STHS/early FHM era. He played on one of the most successful teams of the modern SHL era and was a huge part of their success. Is it a bird…? Is it a buffalo…? No, it’s a 3000 pound semiaquatic mammal!

Selected 8th Overall in the S43 draft by the Buffalo Stampede, there was plenty of expectation that surrounded Passamus during his debut with the team in S46 and although his first three seasons in the SHL delivered both cups and some decent production, it wasn’t until the S48 playoffs that we got to see just how dominant the young Swedish Center could be when he turned it on. In just 22 games he put up 30 points and he never really looked back from there. The following year, he would grow into the physically dominant offensively gifted monster that we know him as today. Passamus would go on to play his entire career in Buffalo where he played a pivotal role in one of the most successful teams in modern SHL history, raising the Challenge Cup 4 times before hanging up the skates in S60. Passamus has the highest point per game average of any player in the history of the SHL with over 12 seasons played at a remarkable 0.84 and finished his career in 5th overall for total points scored. He is remembered as one of the most dominant forwards of his era, as a fantasy powerhouse and as a player that always turned it up to 11 when the games really mattered.

“Not many forwards can sustain the high point and hit ratio per game that Passamus achieved. Passamus continued their production throughout the playoffs, an achievement I don't take lightly. Could Buffalo have won 4 cups during his career span if Passamus was not there? I really don't think so. While he did not receive any individual awards, he does hold the BUF franchise record for hits. I think the important thing to remember is 4 cups as an integral member of those teams.”

“Passamus did it all. Trophy nominations, cups, huge points and a pretty darn good hit total for non pure power forwards, Passamus was an absolute terror to play against. Absolutely one of the most key pieces to the Buffalo Dynasty, they aren't nearly as good without him and maybe don't win all those cups.”

“Hippo Passamus was arguably the face of the Buffalo teams that dominated the S40s and 50s.”
