Entering into the season, the Regina Elk had four brand new rookies to compliment their core for the season. Lets take an in depth look on those rookies and see how they did for the team in their rookie season.

Pick 8: Jae Hyuk Choi – Forward
A brand new player to hockey entirely, Jae had a bit of a rough initial season with the Regina Elk. It took him a while to start finding the stat sheet and defense wasn’t always the strongest of suits, but the offense did find a bit of a groove later in the season. Finishing with a respectable statline of 11 goals and 14 assists in 66 games to finish 13th on the team in total combined points, Jae has proven to be a solid secondary scoring option out of the gate and should only get better with each season to come. The main impact from Jae so far has been off the ice, as he’s been phenomenal at boosting the energy and overall joy and excitement in the locker room, a slam dunk pick so far for the Elk.

Pick 14: Olivers Ozols – Forward
A relatively unassuming pick with not a ton of predraft hyper around them, Ozols was picked up for the struggling offense, and Ozols has provided scoring in bunches. Coming into the season expected to play second fiddle on the offensive depth chart, Ozols proved everyone wrong by tying for second on the team in goals with 21 and fourth on the team in assists with 48. Not really one for words, Ozols prefers to let his actions do all of the talking being a reason the Elk had the giant second half surge that they did. A future scoring title isn’t out of the question for Ozols, it’s more of a matter of when rather than if it starts happening.

Pick 24: Willow Soderberg-Snooks – Defense
Who? An absolute steal at this position considering her uncle is the Nevada Battleborn GM and was rumored to take her, the Regina Elk snagged her to rebuild their young and developing defensive core. Called on to immediately produce in light of the trades of Hodor and Brendan Laroux, Willow stepped up into the Hodor role and led the team in blocked shots with 198 which not only cleared second place on the team by 48 blocks, she was the number one shot blocker in the entirety of the SMJHL for S69 beating out Kelowna defenseman Rikaad Metzller by 4 blocks. Not much of an offensive slouch either, she would only score one goal but would pick up 20 assists to provide some depth at the position.

Pick 36: Fox Peur du Feu – Defense
The other draftee who was expected to shoulder the load as the future top pairing alongside Soderberg-Snooks, Fox has been a bit of a quiet leader in the clubhouse but has showed up on the ice in a different way. Fourth on the team in blocks and with 93 hits on the season, Fox has been showing signs of being a solid defensive defenseman who might not score a ton but will keep things clean in his end.

The Regina S69 draft has shown good dividends so far, the future remains to be seen on how they will pan out in the rest of the career and in the majors.
