S69 Championship Week Due: March 12th @ 11:59 PM (PST)

Code 1 3tpe: verification: stick

Code 3 3tpe: I mostly played D with new partner and rookie Mit Wobet. I think we worked well together, with me being in the league a couple seasons I was able to help him learn the ropes. If we play together next season I think we will be even stronger as he is only improving. I don't know if I ever played with Rasmus Bergling, and that would have been nice I think. He is a very strong player, but we played on the same side D my first year, and then we had to spread the wealth of talent after that so we never really got a chance to gel. Someone I hope to play with again, is my rookie season D partner Philip Fry. We played through a rough rookie season side by side the entire time, and it will be great watching him excel throughout his career. Next year is our last in the J so maybe we will get some more time together. 165 words

Code 4 3tpe: It was my first season, and to be fair this is only my third, I missed the playoffs. Only one team misses the playoffs in the J, and that my my team. Having never been in a league like this I didn't really know what I was missing out on, which was for the best I think. Having been in the playoffs the past two seasons I never want to miss them again. The added excitement, the gathering in the team locker room to enjoy a (hopefully) slower sim together and watching your team is one of the greatest parts of this league. Plus when you miss you have like a month of nothing to do, which really sucks. The tougher question now is would you rather miss the playoffs on a team that isn't great, or get eliminated early with a team you know could win it all? Hopefully I never have to answer that one and just get a trophy. 161 words

Code 5 3tpe: To make this fair, even though it is a god bear, lets assume it can be killed. Now that Rainbow Bear (RB) can die, I still don't see it losing.  Massive Magma Monster (MMM) seems quite strong, but I don't see how it can win with such an obvious weakness, water. Rainbow Bear will know this and come to battle accordingly. The main advantage MMM has would be size and range. So you think that's easy just don't let RB close enough to use the water.  RB is made of light, I mean come on.  MMM would be so blind trying to smash RB it would never hit it.  Not to mention light is pretty fast. Like, the fastest, literally (Until we figure out FTL travel). RB could be zipping around so fast dumping buckets of water on this blind monster it would be more of a torture session that an actual fight. Rainbow Bear wins in a landslide 100 times out of 100. 164 words

Full scale teardown to challenge cup, or expansion draft to challenge cup?

I think a full scale rebuild is more impressive, because Winnipeg chooses to do that and pull it off, while Philadelphia didn’t really have a choice to start where they did. We have seen multiple teams tearing down and never being able to make it back up to the top of the leagues, because it’s hard to retain your players, while New Orleans was also able to put a quick title challenge after their expansion.

I would definitely try to target Rashford. The best way to stop him would be to reduce the time he has to make decisions when he has the puck on his stick, so I would have one player on every line whose sole role, once we loose puck possession, would be to find Rashford and mark him tightly to prevent him from getting the puck or having time to do anything with it if he gets possession of it.

Write your predictions for this year's IIHF tournament or WJC! Tell me about your team! What are your expectations for your player? What teams are you watching out for this time around? Did last season's results surprise you?

I think that, again, Norway is looking good going into this tournament and they can feel confident going in with what they have accomplished in the last few tournaments. I would say that they meet the expectations last season with an early exit during the playoffs round which I think is what we can expect for a country like Norway. However, they looked really good during the round robin round after winning the tournament two seasons ago and I think we should build on these performances and move forward from there. The team still has a lot of high talent, especially in front and in short tournaments like the IIHF ones, team lives or dies by their top players since most coaches tend to play their best players as much as they can, because fatigue is not as big as a factor has it is during the SHL seasons and the players simply go on their off-season break after the tournament.

Congratulations, procrastinator!  Through your terrible time management skills, you’ve unlocked a special task! [TEAM] has won it all! Were the playoffs as you expected this year, or were there some surprises? Is it exciting to have two completely new teams meet in the finals? What did you like or not like about this season?

The playoffs did go close to what I expected. In the western conference, we didn’t have any surprise as the two best teams, Winnipeg and Seattle, reached the conference final and fought all the way to game seven before Winnipeg made it to the league final. In the eastern conference, we had five teams really close to each other and I expect one of them to make it to the final which happened to be Philadelphia. Once you reached the final, anything can happen and the Forge won the title with an incredible performance. It’s great to a team win that hadn’t won in recent times.

We all know what a seige engine is, and we all have a favourite one! If you had to design a seige engine based on your team's branding, what would it be? What would that seige weapon do? What would it look like? What are its advantages? As a graphic option, you can depict what it would look like in action!

The team I play for is called the Inferno, therefore, my siege engine would have to include fire into it. I would first equip my siege three massively big wooden trunks, each of the trunk would be covered by a massive amount of oil that would be set on fire before attacking a siege. These trunks would be used to forcefully break through doors. At the back of it, on both sides, my siege engine would equip with two trebuchets like structures that would be able to throw rocks toward the fortification the engine is trying to break through. The siege would then need a storage space to store the rocks. All these rocks would be covered in oil while they get move from their storage toward the trebuchets, and they would be set on fire right before they get thrown toward the fortification. Finally, the siege engine would have multiple fire pits to set all these things on fire.

d. As always I ask... who you got? Usually when I analyze teams for this segment I see a contrast in results or deployment or something I can latch on to, but these look like remarkably similar teams at this point in the playoffs. So who wins? Why?

A) This is an interesting one. Winnipeg had the additional challenge of going through a new GM. I feel like Winnipeg has made some bigger moves via trades, and adding free agents. Where Philly has taken the slow and steady path. By the numbers winnipeg has built the strong roster through their bigger moves, so I would have to give the slight edge to Winnipeg.

B) I think this is a loaded question, as a team in finals you need to play a full team defence on every player, not just on one player. Obviously you have to be aware when Rashford is out there, however if you focus on him to much the rest of the team will burn you. Philly has to play their game and focus on playing a hard defensive game.
60+

C) When goalies are running hot, you just need to make sure you get everything on net. You have to maximize your odds of scoring and the best way to do that is to get as many shots as possible. It keeps the goalie and the defence on their toes. You never know what will slip by with a random shot from the outside of the circles.

D) Well Winnipeg is the favorite when you look at how the roster is built and the top end talent on the team. However, Philly is a hard working team, and they play as a team. I've always rooted for the under dog since I was on Texas. With that in mind my pick is the Forge to win the cup.

For the last couple of seasons I have been playing with the same line, Mats Marner and Ryu Jones. We have been building some chemisty, and it has been going fairly well for us. Marner and Jones had great seasons going over a point per game, where I slightly struggled this season. All three of us are vets, with Marner being a S53 player, and Jones and I both being S55 players. I think we are proving us old timers can still play in the league, and push the play. However it was a rough ending to the season where we were up in the first round of the playoffs, then the resim happened.. This lead to us losing in the first round of the playoffs, which has now been two seasons in a row so it is definitely frustrating on that end. Who knows what next season will bring with another round of regression, but I am sure the chemistry will still be there.

Write your predictions for this year's IIHF tournament or WJC! Tell me about your team! What are your expectations for your player? What teams are you watching out for this time around? Did last season's results surprise you?

I don't think there will be much change in the overall standings for IIHF. Sure there is always sim luck that could change the outcome, and move a couple teams up or down. However, IIHF usually follows the averages pretty closely due to larger nations being on the top. Smaller nations struggle as they do not get new recruits, while bigger nations just sit there and wait for new players to sign up. This is why I don't think we will see much change from the top nations. Canada will always be a strong nation, Finland is another strong team, in which you can throw Sweden in there with them as well. The one nation which is an outlier is Japan, as they are often a strong team as well. But as we've seen many teams are facing GM issues, so it will be interesting to see how that plays out. So essentially yes, I think that was an anomaly and we will see the top nations back on top shortly. That being said, there will be one main change this season with Austria be swapped for France. I think France will make some noise, with Austria coming off of a bronze medal last season.

a. I honestly feel that building a winning culture from an expansion draft is more impressive. With a tear-down style rebuild, you have a chance to redraft players that may have been part of prior success. Sure, the same might be able to be said about a new expansion team, but you’re still building a brand new thing and need to start from square one with everything, including culture. (68 words)
b. I think you start first with the passer. With 25 in 20, they’re obviously the playmaker, and that typically means they’re the brains behind the play. If you can suffocate the playmaker via forecheck, then there’s a good chance you break the play and force a hasty pass or a turnover. (51 words)
c. There’s not much that’s harder to beat than a hot goalie. When one gets in the zone, it almost feels like more shots just dials them in even further. If I were going against a goalie with numbers like that, I might pull back and try to take all of the risk out of my game. Wait for the open lane, no blind passes, etc. The ol’ rope-a-dope. (68 words)
d. I had Winnipeg taking the series in my bracket. On paper, it makes sense. But, a hot goalie and offense playing out of their mind will change that dynamic. I think if you re-ran that series a few more times, the results would be real close each time. But, Philly for the win! (53 words)

I spent the season on the top line for GFG with some great players: Bobby McGinnis, Hai Nam Hoang, Tiberius Kane and Nino Di Giuseppe. Out of the 5 on the line, 4 of us were selected to the All-Star team. I think that’s a GREAT indication of how the season went for myself and my line-mates! Unfortunately, when the new season starts it’ll just be myself and Tiberius Kane (who was robbed by not being selected for the All-Star team!). The other 3 have all gone on to begin their careers in the big league. As far as players on GFG I’d love to play with, I think Pork Tenderloin is my first choice. They’re a great defenseman, and between the two of us we’d easily shut-down the best lines in the league. Otherwise, I’d love to defend our rookie wunderkind Kyle Latreille who had an absolutely stunning season with putting up great numbers on the third line. (159 words)

This is an easy one: a catapult, but load it with Grizzly Bears. Well, I guess we’d have to give the bears parachutes. That would make them more like paratroopers.. or, maybe, bear-atroopers? Yeah, that’s the ticket. I’d make a Bear-atrooper Catapult. But we’d want to make sure that they were ANGRY before they landed behind our enemies defenses. We wouldn’t want them parachuting into enemy territory, only to just lay down and take a nap. But we wouldn’t want them to JUST be ANGRY.. we’d want them to go berserk! Bear-serk? Yeah, that works well… Bear-serk Bear-atrooper Catapult. So with our Bear-serk Bear-atroopers raining down upon our enemies, we’d be able to just sit back and watch the mayhem unfold. I think the best use of this would really just be to destroy our sworn enemies. Maybe Quebec? Or maybe I’m just still salty we took them to game 7, and then they went on to win the cup. ☹ Watch out for falling bears, QCC. (167 words)

Last season I loved the anthropormorphic boats vs. bulls question because people came up with some really fun answers to read, so I'm going to ask it again with the Forge and the Aurora, even though these teams' have less concrete branding. Tell me who wins in a fight: an enormous god bear made of colourful rays of light, or a massive magma monster with a giant hammer. The arena and the rules of the fight can be whatever you desire. Get creative!

In an epic battle of mythic proportions, an enormous god bear made of colorful rays of light would face off against a massive magma monster with a giant hammer. The arena for this fight would be a vast, open plain dotted with volcanic fissures, where the magma monster would feel right at home. As the battle begins, the god bear would emit blinding beams of light that would dazzle and disorient the magma monster. However, the magma monster's thick, molten skin would be impervious to the god bear's radiant attacks.
In response, the magma monster would swing its mighty hammer, sending waves of magma flying towards the god bear. However, the god bear's nimble movements and agility would allow it to dodge and weave around the fiery blasts. As the battle wears on, the god bear's light attacks would begin to wear down the magma monster, causing it to slow and weaken. At this point, the god bear would seize its chance and charge towards the monster, using its dazzling light to blind the magma monster completely. With the magma monster blinded, the god bear would pounce on it, using its razor-sharp claws to rip apart the monster's thick, molten skin. As the magma monster crumbles under the god bear's onslaught, the god bear emerges victorious, its colorful rays of light illuminating the battlefield as a testament to its triumph. In the end, the god bear's agility, quick reflexes, and dazzling light attacks would be too much for the massive magma monster to handle. Although the magma monster had formidable strength and a giant hammer, it could not overcome the god bear's superior skills and abilities.

a. Both Winnipeg and Philadelphia have taken the long road of drafting and development to find themselves in the Challenge Cup Finals. Winnipeg in full scale rebuild, and Philadelphia in the expansion draft. Each began nearly 10 seasons ago. From your point of view, which build is more impressive? Full scale teardown to challenge cup, or expansion draft to challenge cup?

Both Winnipeg and Philadelphia have taken different paths to reach the Challenge Cup Finals, but both have achieved an impressive feat. From my point of view, the full-scale rebuild that Winnipeg has undergone to reach the finals is more impressive.
Starting nearly 10 seasons ago, Winnipeg embarked on a complete teardown of their roster, trading away their star players and accumulating draft picks. They then utilized these picks to select talented young players, who they have developed over the years to become the core of their current roster. This process of rebuilding is not easy, and it requires a lot of patience and commitment to a long-term vision. It is a testament to the dedication and hard work of Winnipeg's management and coaching staff that they have been able to turn their rebuild into a successful playoff run.

b. Winnipeg's Mikko Rashford has been an unstoppable assist machine with 25 in 20 GP. If you're looking to shut down Winnipegs offense, who do you target? Rashford, or goal scorers surrounding them? Do you double down on guarding the scorers and letting a pass-first player take a shot, or do you go heavy on the passer and hope nothing squeeks through?

As a team that relies heavily on Mikko Rashford's assists, Winnipeg's offense would undoubtedly suffer if Rashford were shut down. However, a team cannot solely focus on shutting down Rashford and ignore the other goal-scoring threats on Winnipeg's roster. A balanced defensive approach is necessary to shut down Winnipeg's offense. One strategy could be to try and limit the time and space that Rashford has on the ice, disrupting his passing lanes and forcing him into making mistakes.

c. Philadelphia's BASE PACK has made over 500 saves in 17 GP. If you're a Winnipeg team looking for a weakness to exploit, do you think this is one? Does this signify an exhausted goalie that you can pepper with shots and eventually break the dam? Or is BASE PACK just an on-fire goalie that you need to find another way around?

Making over 500 saves in 17 GP is an impressive feat, and it signifies that Philadelphia's goalie is a strong presence in the net. While it may be tempting for Winnipeg to pepper the goalie with shots, this may not necessarily be the most effective strategy. Instead, Winnipeg may need to focus on finding gaps in the opposing team's defense and creating high-quality scoring opportunities. Additionally, Winnipeg may need to focus on getting players to the net for rebounds and deflections, which can be difficult for even the best goalies to stop. Ultimately, while the high number of saves may indicate an on-fire goalie, it also suggests that Philadelphia's defense may be allowing too many shots on goal. Winnipeg may need to take advantage of this weakness and create high-quality scoring opportunities by being smart and strategic in their offensive approach.

d. As always I ask... who you got? Usually when I analyze teams for this segment I see a contrast in results or deployment or something I can latch on to, but these look like remarkably similar teams at this point in the playoffs. So who wins? Why?

Both Winnipeg and Philadelphia have made it to the Challenge Cup Finals after long roads of drafting and development, and both teams have demonstrated impressive skills and strategies throughout the playoffs. The outcome of the game will depend on various factors such as the performance of individual players, the effectiveness of team strategies, and luck. Ultimately, it is up to the players on the ice to determine the outcome of the game, and I wish both teams the best of luck in the Challenge Cup Finals. (Go Philly!)

Some out-of-their-mind venture capitalist gave you an insane amount of money to start your own hockey related business. What is it, and why do you want to start it? What need does it address? Does anything else like it exist? As a graphic option, create a very corporate looking power-point slide that pitches your busines to hyper business minded people.

One potential business idea could be a hockey equipment customization service. While there are already companies that offer custom equipment, these are typically limited to simple color and design choices. However, this new business would allow players to fully customize their equipment, including sizing, materials, colors, and designs, to fit their individual needs and preferences. This would address the need for players to have equipment that fits them properly, which can be a challenge for players with unique body shapes or preferences. Additionally, it would provide a new level of personalization and customization that is not currently available on the market. To make this business successful, it would require a team of experienced designers and equipment experts who can create and manufacture custom equipment to a high standard. The company could partner with SHL players to create signature lines of equipment and generate buzz around the brand. The business could also offer a subscription service, where players receive new equipment every season, customized to their exact specifications. Overall, this business idea would address a need in the hockey industry for personalized and properly fitting equipment, while also providing a unique and exciting experience for players.

Right, so this a a heck of a title fight we got here. "An enormous god bear made of colourful rays of light vs a massive magma monster with a giant hammer." This PPV is going to draw some mad numbers for sure, but that's not the question. The question is who wins in a fight, and I think it's going to be a close one, but my money is on the god bear. It would be a clash of the titans, but the way I see it, the massive god bear ends up mauling the magma monster. The magma monster gets some good hits in with its massive hammer, but the god bear shrugs it off long enough to land a finishing blow. It's possible the magma monster manages to use its overwhelming power to land a knockout blow on the bear, but i think the god bear's mobility and chin allow it to close the gap and finish the job. Either way, I'm sure this fight will live up to the hype.

17. Water Logged (+3)

LW: Sailfish. Sailfish are extremely quick, reaching speeds up to 68 mph. They're also pretty large at 120-220 lbs. Expect them to use their strength and speed to stretch the ice and make aggressive drives to the net.
C: Dolphin. Dolphins are wicked smart, and demonstrate great teamwork. In such a cerebral position like center, their mental game will help them thrive. Expect them to make- a lot of smart, heads up plays on both ends of the ice
RW: Orca. Big and strong, it would be difficult to knock an orca off the puck, and they would add some heavy muscle to the forward unit. Not to mention their skill at tail slapping other sea critters would come in handy sniping out goals.

LD: Great White Shark. Of course we're including the big bad of the ocean on this list. The great white is a lean, mean, killing machine who will absolutely mess up the opposing team.
RD: Leatherback Sea Turtle.  The leatherback is more of a stay at home defender, using its massive shell to block shots while laying mean hits using its one ton frame.

G: Blue Whale. The blue whale is an absolute unit in net, and is capable of moving up to 20mph in short bursts. Will be hard to get a shot past its massive frame with that mobility.

22: Hope and Happiness (+2)
At the moment of writing, my doctoral research has had two big positive steps forward. First, I just finished taking a set of data that through many setbacks has taken over a year to collect. Needless to say, finally getting that data felt amazing and I'm looking forward to really sinking my teeth into analyzing it (like the nerd I am). Similarly, I am nearing completion of a journal paper that I would like to submit for publication, so hopefully by the time next CW comes around I will officially have my first research paper published. All in all the grind is pretty tedious, but it's these brief moments of accomplishment that make it worth it!

Rather than giving you a task where you do something boring like "write about your season" using things like "sentences and punctuation" I figured I could instead ask you to write a haiku about how your season went! A haiku is a three line poem where the first line is five syllables, the second is seven, and the third line is five again.

Tell me about who your linemates were this year, and how the season went playing together. Why do you work well together? Why don't you work well together? If there was anyone on your team you don't play with but you'd like to, who is it? Why? If you're a goalie, tell me about your bond with your goaltending partner!

Our top line was loaded with talent. On the left side we had Bobby McGinnis, a 4th year putting up almost 70 points. Centering is the great Hai Nam Hoang from vietnam, a small man with silky hands and strong skating. He put up 87 points. On the right, playing my off-wing, is yours truly Tiberius Kane. It was certainly a privilege to play with two 425 players on the top line. Most of the season I felt like I was just trying to not be holding the other two back, but by the end I was certain I was contributing to my line and my team. With only one other season under my belt, its a bit of a joke to call these career highs, but they are what they are. I topped out at 66 points, a point per game in only my second year. At our core, we work well together because Hai Nam understands the value of cooperation and equity. And while he hails from a communist country and Tiberius Kane is more of an anarchal, extra terrestrial messiah, we still find common ground in our hatred for teams not wearing the grizzly.

Write about a time you didn't make the playoffs, and what you did to take your mind off it! Did you expect to miss the playoffs when it happened? Was it a shock? How did you take it? If you've never been on a team that missed the playoffs, tell me about an early exit you made instead.

This tale comes from way back in season 54. It was my second season in the SHL, sporting a 20 point rookie campaign. You always hope you get better every season, but it wasn't the case in S54. Management sold off all of our assets and acquired picks to kickstart a rebuild I was at the core of. We ended up losing all 50 games. Not a single win. Our corsi was in the low 20s. We scored only 45 goals total as a team, only 3 more than the leading goal scorer in the SHL. We were shut out 19 times. 5 times we had double digit goals against. When we missed the playoffs, it was no big deal. In fact, we were proud of our historic run. First and so far only team to finish the season with zero wins and zero points. It wasn't much of a surprise either, obviously. The real gut blow was putting up 11 points in 50 games. You really want to get better, but the 2 seasons that followed I put up only 20 points. It wasn't until much later that I managed to put up point per game numbers, but by that point my career was already a bit of a dud.

I've asked this before, but since it may be my final time writing CW, I wanted to ask it again. It was one of my favourite questions to read responses to. Tell me something that happened recently that you enjoyed, something that brings you happiness, or something you have hope for in the future. It could be a huge thing like buying a house or a small thing like having fun with your lockerroom this season. I just want to give you a chance to write down something positive.

Recently ive decided that, after almost a decade of doing this, that I should not drink 2 monster rehabs every morning. Now, I understand that an energy drink is an energy drink, but the rehabs aren't as bad, i found. I lost my taste for other energy drinks, so this felt better. However, when you're that deep inside of a bad habit you dont realize what life could be like without it. I cut caffeine cold turkey and slept for 12 hours that day. I'll partake in coffee and pop from time to time to get that fix, but my mood is much improved in the evenings and I wake up not really needing a kick start. I can just roll out of bed only kind of tired and start my day. I feel a lot better, and hopefully I can eliminate other bad habits.

2. Grab Bag +4
a. I think a full teardown is much more impressive. It is really hard to do to bring in all the pieces season after season to get to the top. Where I think, expansion teams have a slight advantage when starting since they can build their team from scratch and almost get the exact team and pieces they need to be competitive from the start. -64 words

b. I would say you need to be physical with the goal scorers. Give them no run to move and keep them away from the net. Take away their shooting angles. You take all that away, who does Rashford have to pass to? I think with a team like Winnipeg, playing physical is the way to go. -56 words

c. I dont think BASE PACK taking that many shots makes him a weakness at all. If anything that makes him the strongest. Philly's defense in front of PACK is the "weakness" here. But it could also be that Philly gives up the quantity but not quality shots. So hence more easy saves for PACK without giving up the goals. -59 words

d. Just from the paper stats, I would have gone with Winnipeg every time. Highest TPE on offense, defense, and goalie.... Are you kidding me. Winnipeg had the most goals in the regular season and gave up the 3rd fewest.  Winnipeg did have tough series versus New Orleans and then again versus Seattle. But I would have guessed Winnipeg takes the Cup 4 games to 2. -65 words

It was no surprise to see Winnipeg Aurora in the final. In the season predictions, 63% of the users picked Winnipeg to win it all this season. They definitely had the team to do it, I believe the highest TPE team. But I guess the surprising part was Winnipeg's opponent, the Philadelphia Forge. What is even more surprising is not that they made it to the finals but they WON it in 5 GAMES. I can almost safely say no one predicted that to happen. Well 5 people picked Philly to win it all so good for you for picking the Cinderella Story. Hats off to the Forge for taking down Goliath and bringing home the Challenge Cup.

TASK #2 (+3 TPE)
A. To me, building a team from an expansion draft is more impressive than building a championship-caliber team through the draft. With an expansion team, you're taking on players that their original teams didn't want to keep on, forming that new team identity, gaining extra talent through draft/free agency, and taking it all the way to a spectacular playoff run. There's something about the "mercenary" identity of expansion franchises that makes a run to a sports finals all the more amazing to watch. (83 words)
B. To shut down Winnipeg's offense, target Rashford's linemates! The best way to have a pass-first, playmaking forward make mistakes is to shut down their normal means of distribution. Force Rashford to take a shot they might not be comfortable taking, or try and have them force a pass. If you routinely attempt to shut down the linemates, you'll be able to generate more takeaways and momentum in your favor. (69 words)
C. In trying to solve BASE PACK, you should both pepper the Forge goaltender with shots and also look to exploit their weak side (whether it be blocker, glove, five hole, angles, etc.) 500-plus saves in 17 games is an immense work load for any goaltender, so make PACK work through screens or cross-crease passes and try to tire them out even more. Something good that happened to me actually happened off of the ice. While it was finally great to get back into the site and experience life in the SHL again after all this time away, my biggest progression came by finally securing myself a full-time job. It's so incredibly validating to know that the 4 and a half years I spent in college have paid off. I'm no longer working (primarily) at part-time jobs that barely make me enough money to scrape by, and it's improved my mental well-being quite a bit. I'm not sure if this is even the right thing to write for this prompt, but I just wanted to put into words how much better I feel about my living situation now.[/u][/u]

5. Fire and Light, 3 TPE
The great titan known simply as "The Forge" had existed without a challenger for generations, going village to village and consuming all their metal whenever it needed a meal. All this changed, however, when it attacked the village of Winnipeg. When the people of Winnipeg heard the deafening of sizzle magma hitting months of built up snow, they prayed to their gods to aid them in this time of need. The gods answered, sending a guardian made of dancing lights, taking the form of a bear. As the titan approached, the guardian began charging towards it, starting a fearsome battle which lasted for five nights. At first it seemed like the guardian had the upper hand and would destroy the great titan with ease, but the titan did not fight fair. The guardian knocked the titan to the ground, sending chunks of rock and magma everywhere, and as it backed up to allow the titan to rise once again, a boulder the size of a small mountain struck it in the side, sending it tumbling towards the village. The titan took advantage of this as it leapt to its feet and charged at the bear, delivering it four thunderous punches to the face and neck before it stopped moving. The Forge emerges victorious to continue to terrorize villages and towns.

20. Siege Weapon, 3 TPE
A siege weapon with a mafia theme is a tough one because the mafia aren't really 'attack things head on,' 'siege' people. I think that the most realistic scenario for this is a group of corrupt police officers that the syndicate has bribed to work for them, using their battering rams and their uniforms to terrorize certain people for certain perceived wrongdoings. After this, when the door is presumably broken for a day or two, the Syndicate are free to walk in or out, whether it's to leave special gifts like the head of a horse, or for a good old fashioned shakedown. Another simpler option would be getting the biggest, meanest looking guy in the crime family to kick down the door himself and do what he does. And before anyone asks, yes I have seen too many movies and no I don't know how any of this actually works in real life.

22. Hope and Happiness, 2 TPE
About a month ago I applied to go back to school for graphic design which is exciting. I originally graduated college in marketing, but even before I graduated college my worldviews had changed so much that I knew this probably wasn't for me. After getting no responses to job applications I gave up on the search and have been working for the past two and a half years as a general labourer for a construction company. Last November my boss asked me if I wanted to move into marketing for the company, starting in January, but long story short January came and went and so did my boss' offer. If anything this was a good thing though, as it motivated me to finally pursue something in life again instead of just rolling with the punches like I've been doing for far too long. It'll be a little bit of a change going back to being a student but I'm excited for what the future holds.
