How much do you enjoy the SHL right now?

i support any and all anti-mock draft agendas

maybe it's just bc i'm on my first player and have only been here a little over a year, but I'm enjoying the SHL a lot. but the mock draft just bugs me. it's a task that doesn't offer either a) an opportunity for character development, b) the opportunity to platform my unpopular sports takes, or c) easy like predictions or the award votes.

We lost a lot of media like that, in part because I think jobs became more available and more numerous as we expanded some of the things we bring on the site, as well as compensation went up so less people need to think about media. I haven't tried to make money really at all in a long and I still go up every season cause of GM pay+Casino pay outs mainly.
Probably not my role to comment on that but I will anyways. Regarding a top 100, the SHL ASG Committee (in which I am) did mention this idea as a way to cause more interest from users, and it looks like an actual option in the future. Just wanted to put it out here.

Edit: I'm stupid

Is the goal of the league to replicate the NHL as closely as possible? No. Is it really possible for the SHL to replicate the NHL with only 20 teams in the league? Also no.
I'd argue that although the SHL playoffs could definitely use a bit more randomness, the only real issue with predictability comes from seeds 11-16 being included as free first round wins. These teams are in the bottom half of the league and just aren't as good as the seeds 11-16 that make it into the NHL playoffs.
I don't have anything more insightful to say. I just like providing the numbers for other people to look at.

I probably wont get a chance to actually go through the data until the weekend. But I gathered it all for people. Also have to remember we made a pretty significant regression change in S63, and then restricted what coaches can do as well this decade of the SHL

I don't know if I joined at just the right time but with my first player the league felt so engaging! Now there's barely anything happening making me want to visit the forum. We get draft and iihf double weeks, the occasional graphics tournament and not much else happening. It would be cool to have events to engage with our teammates or the rest of the community. I remember one time a PT was to be done as a team and although not a lot of people participated, it was a fun idea and I'd love to see things like that happening more often.

With that being said, I do enjoy the league or I wouldn't be here anymore.

I've lost some steam over the past 2 years, but I still think its fun. Personally, I think the tedium is just part of having a top player. The people are the best part - I refer to some of you as my "internet friends" to my wife so that has to count for something.

Quote:- Mock Drafts: They haven't been actual mock drafts where people try to predict things for years now, but exercises in "who finds the best mock to copy". If you actually do it yourself, as the task was originally intenioned, you'll likely have a huge disadvantage. Plus, it also gives a disadvantage to people who aren't online in the final hours or even minutes before the drafts, to update their mocks for any last minute changes, or who don't know the right people yet to copy.

I actually feel like mock drafts are uniquely one of the best tasks the site has to offer. There is no other task that is able to spur engagement and co operation between so many users, and i find it really enjoyable to trade draft intel for draft intel. The Whalers Whalers had a secret channel where we all shared information with ourselves and it was fun. and i really dont see why there is a problem with having mock drafts be done the way they were "originally intentioned". The task is more fun when you can collaborate, so why not collaborate? and even if you didnt want to collab you could just go in the thread like a day before the draft and get a really really solid mock, there is absolutely no need to wait for the final hours. Im not even able to do the mock draft since i have to take HO average but i still find fun in just helping. Predictions (awards/playoffs/IIHF) are pretty much exactly the same thing no? doesnt everyone just copy the most common answers? i dont even think its that big of an issue

Quote:Generally speaking, I think it would be a good idea to take a look at our TPE system on a bigger picture level. The way I see it, our PT-department has a set amount of TPE available that they can/want to dish out each season to keep TPE-earning more or less consistent between years. So every task we have "uses" up some of those scarce available TPE. I think we should be asking ourselves: Do the tasks we have right now actually use this scarce ressource efficiently and squeeze the most fun out it? When I talk about getting rid of CW, I'm not talking about getting rid of those 16 TPE. I talk about freeing up 16 TPE that can then be dished out in new, fresh and exciting ways to create more activity. Same goes for Mock Drafts and other tasks that might not work anymore. Eliminate those "bad" tasks and suddenly we have like 30 TPE or so available every season that we can use to steer activity in ways that we think is beneficial. New tasks or higher payouts for existing weekly tasks to make things exciting again or cater to active users?

But like, how? I find it hard to think of a way to recreate or remake the tpe system/economy as it is right now. What tasks would you make that squeeze the most fun out of weekly homework? Like internally i know that a PT is the work i put in to make my player better and to join teams and chase silverware. It isnt enjoyable in the short term but it pays off in the longterm.

Quote:Or go a different route and make activity check or training camp payouts higher to help lower activity users? League management would suddenly have extra tools at their disposal to steer the league in the direction that they find beneficial.

In the VHL you claim welfare which equals less than the tpe you would earn if you did the tasks for the week, that sounds like what you are referring to

overall specifically regarding your criticisms/suggestions on the PT systems i dont think anyone would argue with more fun point tasks, but how would you change it? you said youd remove specific tasks and essentially have them redistributed to new tasks, but what would those tasks be?

Personally i just have a hard time finding the will to do PTs, nothing on the PT team i think i've just lost the spark. I've barely watched any results and if i didnt have discord i wouldnt even have known that i got a 4 star cup.

Mightve just grown out of it with other interests taking a bigger chunks or time, as well as the change in under scenery the site has undertaken the last 10 seasons or so. It is what it is.

The one consistent thing that makes me stick around every week is grading graphics probably. Some weeks we have nothing to grade, but otherwise it's been pretty consistent since I took over that department head job in late 2019. Otherwise the forum itself hasn't been that interesting for a while, I have to agree with eni there. You just go there for your weekly tasks typically and that's it. What really keeps me around are the people (you know who you are).

as a former PT head its HARD to think of fun interesting ways to earn tpe. I think its just the nature of the league that the weekly pts will get boring. Sure its kind of a chore but so is working out some days when youre a pro athlete im sure and thats what were tryna simulate here. If pt's are easy then whats the point of all this?

i know this is funny coming from the guy who lambasted HO about giving easier tpe for semi actives
