S71 PT #0: Is it solipsistic in here or is it just me?

Prompt 1

As the SHL was heading into its preseason for S71, Svoboda was busy getting himself in shape. After a long day of training, he decided to finally set aside some time to watch TV, something he hadn't done in ages. As he was flipping through the channels, he came across one showing hockey.

"Ah they must be showing reruns of last year's finals" he thought to himself

That's when he noticed that the teams looked very unfamiliar to him, and the announcer was talking about some weird league called the "NHL"

He decided he needed to do some research into this, and in doing so discovered that there was no mention of the SHL outside of a website specifically dedicated to it. That's when it struck him as odd that all the games he played in were in 2D. Is the SHL all fake? Is this "NHL" the real hockey league?

Svoboda's world was spinning around him. As he was attempting to come to terms with this new information, he came upon another realization: he didn't really care all too much. That's when he got up and went back to preparing for the upcoming fictional hockey season.

Prompt 1

i had this wild idea that this is all a simulation so i asked a few people and realized this was all a simulation and then thought if the servers were to crash i would be gone just like that. everything depends on the server and thats crazy at this point is there even a point in trying anymore if its all a lie based on god like people who have control over everything. I decided i was still going to keep trying and being my best self and i plan on winning something this year with St. Louis in the SMJHL. all this thinking got me stressed so i just went to the pool to calm down and once i was calmed down i was fine after that, there is nothing i can do about it anyways so i just said goodnight to my family and went to bed early

Alex Minaj, a passionate individual with an unwavering belief that he was a professional hockey player, led a life filled with dreams of sporting success. In his mind, he was actively involved in the competitive world of hockey, training diligently, and striving to achieve his career goals. However, unbeknownst to Alex, his entire reality was about to be shattered. One day, while browsing the internet, Alex stumbled upon a website dedicated to hockey enthusiasts. Excitedly, he signed up, eager to share his own experiences as a professional player and connect with fellow fans. As he delved deeper into the discussions and activities on the site, something peculiar began to happen. Gradually, Alex started to question the authenticity of his existence within this digital realm. He noticed inconsistencies and discrepancies in the stories and experiences shared by other users. Doubts began to creep into his mind, and he started to suspect that his reality as a professional hockey player might not be as concrete as he once believed. Through a series of interactions and conversations on the website, Alex encountered individuals who challenged his assumptions. They presented evidence that suggested his existence was nothing more than a fictional entity, existing solely within the confines of this website for hockey nerds. Initially resistant to this notion, Alex embarked on a journey of self-discovery to uncover the truth.  After thorough introspection and reflection, Alex came face-to-face with the realization that his identity as a professional hockey player was a figment of his imagination within this online community. It was a devastating blow to his sense of self, as he had invested so much of his identity and aspirations into this perceived career. Furthermore, the knowledge that his existence depended on the website's servers not going down added another layer of complexity to his realization. Alex grappled with the understanding that his entire being hinged on the stability and availability of the website's infrastructure. The precariousness of his existence became apparent, and he felt a deep sense of vulnerability and dependency.

Honestly, I think if Dominik was to find out that someone used his likeness to be part of an SHL type league, he wouldn’t care all that much. Unless there were a bunch of pictures that were putting him into positions that he doesn’t appreciate being created, it’s really not something that he would care about. And should the previously mentioned situation occur, that is why one has a good agent and a good lawyer to be able to take care of those situations. Of course, the truly most realistic situation is that he would likely never even know that such a website/league existed and it wouldn’t be something that he would go out of his way to do research on/find. Pro hockey players aren’t exactly known for how much free time they have and Dominik would be no different. He’s much more of a book, tv, or video game kinda guy for his free time.

Prompt 2

One sunny afternoon, Julian stumbled upon an online simulation hockey league. Curious about this discovery, he decided to have a look at the league. As he scrolled through the teams, his heart skipped a beat. There it was, the unmistakable name: "Flörsch," emblazoned on a digital jersey.

Eager to uncover the truth, Julian clicked on the team, his eyes scanning the roster until he saw it—his virtual counterpart. He couldn't help but feel a mix of awe, surprise, and pride. Someone had taken the time to create a player inspired by his skills and persona.

With growing excitement, Julian delved deeper into the league, discovering fans who admired his real-life performance and replicated his playing style in the virtual arena. He engaged in conversations with other players, discussing strategies, and learning from their experiences.

The online simulation league became a parallel universe where Julian's legacy thrived. As he played alongside his virtual alter ego, he realized the profound impact he had made on people's lives, both on and off the ice. The love and appreciation from the virtual community humbled him, providing a renewed sense of purpose and motivation.

PROMPT 2: Your player has either been informed or discovered personally that some nerd-ass fan has created a version of themselves in an online sim league.

WRITTEN TASK: Tell me how your player reacts to this information. Do they give the fan an exclusive selfie to use as their sig? Do they sue for likeness abuse? Do they create a player themselves just to see what it's like?

During the off-season following his draft, Levin got bored one weekend, and started "googling himself", as one does when there's nothing better to do - and in doing so, he realized that some French-Canadian kid has been roleplaying as him for a few months! While creeped out at first, Levin took the time to read some of the entries written on the forums of that roleplaying community, only to realize that the kid not only knew about his childhood and his young career inside and out, he also correctly analyzed the phases of play in which Levin is the strongest, and the weakest. This triggered a whole week of introspection, watching game tape to figure out and iron out bad reflexes in his play, and devising a targeted workout plan to better strengthen his core. All in all, even if the thought is still unsettling to him, Levin is thankful for the kid who decided to impersonate him - as a sophomore in Great Falls, he will need to dictate the pace even more than he did last season, and these are the kinds of analysis that one rarely gets even before stepping foot into the SHL - which should help him in the season to come.

PROMPT 2: Uskjal received a call from a concerned family member who had found long unhinged essays written in Uskjals name, which lead to the discovery of an online fantasy league in which an avid Uskjal fan decided to play as him. At first Uskjal would be confused at the idea someone would elect to spend their time in such a manner but after a closer look at the site he realizes its potential. Uksjal signs up on the page, posing as a rival SHL player, and begins weaving in opponent team trade rumours into his "fantasy" league posts. He also makes bold prediction in hopes of jinxing the real leagues outcomes. Uskal would take up a fake name and play as a defender, in an effort to not be discovered. As a forgein player Uskjal also apreciates the opportunity to practice his english and continue assimilating into NA culture. All in all this would be a fun past time for uskajl but he would not reach out to the fan.

Prompt 1:
Nathaniel leans back, thinking to himself "well this makes sense if you think about it". Going to the whiskey cabinet to pull out a nice, crisp Cohiba to pair with some 15 year aged Rhum he thinks "why the fuck not, it's 7:30, might as well enjoy a breakfast of champions in the off season, and I live in a god damn simulation, so it isn't like my diet is actually going to matter.
Knocking on the guest door on his yacht aptly named "Summer Home", he opened the door and peered inside. Fast asleep among a couple of very talented escorts was Cale @KaleSalad
"Hey shitbrains, wake up! we have golf balls to hit at the GreenPeace boat. They look like they are in range, probably chasing a herd of whales or dolphins or something.
Extremely groggily Cale looks around and yawns.
"Dude it's fucking 7 in the morning, come back at 11"
What a mistake that was. A quick press of a hidden button on the wall later an ice bucket pours freezing sea water all over the bed, and confetti followed by a banner saying "Thank you for your donation to ALS research"
"What the hell man"
"Don't worry, none of this is real anyway, we're living in a simulation."

PROMPT 2 - Written task

Aumy Junior II was always well known because of his early hockey days in Finland. His entire childhood he played in Tampere and every knew him. They knew his father and grandfather who are both famous ex-SHL players. So it wasn't anything shocking that there was made a copy of him in a simulation world. He didn't care that much, but his agent told that they could use this situation for good, plus it would be very nice. They messaged this certain person and got informed that it's a young kid from Chicago in United States who's just a big fan of him. Since Aumy Junior II plays for Carolina ''Kraken'' and is drafted by Toronto ''North Stars'' in SHL, there wasn't any difficulties to sort out a meeting with him. They took a selfie together, talked about life and Aumy Junior II even gifted him a signed hockey stick. Fan got his jersey from SHL draft night as well. Hockey player followed a young fan on social media and this situation made their both days better. It's such a nice thing to do and both of them will remember this for a long time. It seems like Twitter knew of this stuff too, because this topic was trending for a long time.

You can imagine the confusion on Jon St. Ark's face when he woke up one day and checked his twitter to see that he was trending. At first there's some measure of excitement, thinking that perhaps there was something in the news or maybe even an award that he won. But that excitement turned to panic quickly once he thought of other, more embarrassing reasons that he might end up the talk of the town. So imagine his surprise when he checks the tweets and finds that almost everything is a reference to a video posted online of a fake version of Jon St. Ark in some game with audio commentary overlaid. As the real Jon watched the clip, he saw his 'sim' player let in goal after goal to the increasing exasperation of the commentator. Jon traces the original video back to some sort of virtual sim league, and the original poster. He replies with a thumbs up tweet, and then goes back to bed.

Chimkin Wing is pissed but it is really only because I talk so much shit about how bad he is but he is actually pretty good and he tries really hard. I am sorry, Chimkin Wing. I love you. Otherwise, Chimkin Wing is mostly just upset that nothing is real, they're in the walls, etc. He always kind of suspected they were in the walls, however now he finally has confirmation. But life has to be easy in a simulated world, right? There's no simulated wars, no simulated famine, no simulated hate or division. It's all just hockey (and the other sim league's sports I guess if they're in the same simulated world?). I am getting extremely existential right now but seriously all you have to do is play hockey and never have to worry about getting hurt because injuries are turned off, you never have to worry about finding a roof to put over your head or getting food... you just play hockey. Then you retire and disappear.
