(X2 DRAFT MEDIA) S71 SHL draft review (6th - 10th picks)
#1

Let's continue my S71 SHL draft re-view. If in the first part we were looking back at first five picks, now it's sixth to tenth picks. How does teams performed in this draft? Let's see.

Battleborn ---> Panthers
Los Angeles "Panthers" with the sixth overall pick selected left wing forward Oliver Castillon from Nevada "Battleborn". Joined in late S69, when played just nine regular season games as a center. Next two seasons he went all in and got 46 and 46 points which is pretty good. Very effective scorer, with over 13% shooting accuracy in the past two seasons. Average in faceoffs, does a lot of hitting. Next update will allow him to sit at 580 TPE. Re-create, donates to SHL, so it's a safe pick, to be fair. His update thread is already in "Panthers" forum, so is he being called up for next season? All others are still associated with their SMJHL teams. Interesting. Right now this pick seems like a W, though.

Whalers ---> Platoon
Seventh overall pick was owned by Baltimore "Platoon" which chose to pick right side defender Bellamy Blake from Vancouver "Whalers". Two consistent seasons, no missed games + 52 and 54 points in each of them. Gets a lot of penalty minutes, but does a lot of job in defense. New update will allow him to have 564 TPE. Another re-create, so it's a decent pick-up for "Platoon". "Whalers" had two decent seasons, ending both of them at the top of the SMJHL standings. Blake helped them a lot and I can see him being one of the top defenders in SHL one day. W once again.

Battleborn ---> Barracuda
Tampa Bay "Barracuda" with the eighth overall pick selected a center forward Max Carnage from Nevada "Battleborn". Carnage got 42 points in his debut season, but last season put up impressive 70 points. Very effective shooting, 57.1% life time wins in faceoffs, a great two-way player. Sits at 547 TPE right now. Decent pick-up, hard to say something about risk of losing him. Right now it seems like it's a huge W and even a small steal of this draft, but only time will tell the truth.

Scarecrows ---> Platoon
Baltimore "Platoon" got another pick and with nineth overall selected left side defender Jay Bryzi from St. Louis "Scarecrows". Went from 17 points in a season to 45 points in the last one. Can score, spends a lot of time on the ice on the powerplays, blocks shots and does a lot of hitting. He has 498 TPE right now, which means he is the first player of this draft class below 500 TPE. However, he hasn't done newest training yet. Hard to say if it's a right choise for them. He might fit well, since it's a long time journey, but we will see if Baltimore's pick pays off or not. Right now I wouldn't rate this choise as a W or L. Player is decent, it's a re-create with a low risk of being inactive, so I assume they went for the obvious pick.

Scarecrows ---> Monarchs
Tenth overall pick was held by Minnesota "Monarchs" which decided to go with left wing forward Marshall Madden from St. Louis "Scarecrows". SMJHL GM with 494 TPE + a long time user. Two seasons spent in SMJHL already - 28 points in the first one and 46 points in the last season. Once again - it's a safe pick. It is a bit weird though that there was no team in TOP 10 which was opened to risk and choose a new prospect which wasn't a re-create. New users didn't even have a chance this fast, which is a bit sad, because they couldn't get picked higher. However, this pick is a small W at this moment. He is SMJHL GM and has to spend time there and help his team, so it's hard to predict how motivated he will be to upgrade his player, once he is playing in the big league. Safe to say that he is not a selfish player though.
