S73 PT#3: Getting Colorful

Option 1 -

These kids are alright. It’s crazy how much they learned through my wonderful hockey program and now they are ready to play against other teams in their age range. First up was against another group of swashbuckling teens who were not good, and it was an easy win. They learned respect when they didn’t run the score up on the other team, and were very nice and polite at the end of the game. Very proud. The next game was against TEAM ICELAND who were hanging around for some reason. Yes, this team was big and bad and frankly kicked the crap out of my team. They learned to be humble in defeat and we really hope that we can get our revenge in the gold medal game at the end of the movie. Each of these players learned leadership that they can now take back to their own teams to help grow the game in their communities.

Option 2

Shnopple doesn't like to criticize his goalie, or any teammates play since he is more of a team player with a team mentality. Shnopple understands being a goalie isn't easy and you don't always have the best of games even if you are one of the best goalies of all time. Even when a goalie has a bad game or a rough game Shnopple likes to think how he could have played better. When the defense plays well the goalie gets a lot of help so if a goalie doesn't do so good it may have been defense that contributed so Shnopple thinks about what he could have done better since it is a team game not a solo effort. Shnoople will think if blocking another shot or positioning would have changed the game. He just can't seem to think about it being the goalie's fault ever he's just not like that at all.

Option 2 / Written Task

When it comes to my team's goalie, one thing that comes to mind I would like them to do in order for my life and theirs to be easier is for the goalie to communicate with the defenders. The game of hockey moves incredibly fast, and it is not always the easiest thing to be talking while also trying to focus on the next play. But, I do believe that communication between a goalie and defenseman is critical to the success of keeping pucks out of the net. If the goalie is able to tell me where a forward is coming from when my back is turned, I can be prepared to cover my flank. And in turn, I can communicate with the goalie on where exactly the puck is behind the net so they can position themselves accordingly. If a goalie is communicating with me, and I am communicating with my goalie, it will cut down on "easier" goals allowed and make a big difference in the final score.

Alright, so rebound control is key, you know? When the goalie can swallow up shots and not let those juicy rebounds spill out in front, that's huge. Forwards like Aaron don't have to scramble back into the defensive zone as much. Instead of worrying about blocking a second or third shot, they can focus on moving the puck up the ice. Makes for quicker transitions and less time hemmed in your own zone. It's also less taxing, physically. You don't have to grind it out in board battles trying to clear the puck after a messy rebound. You save that energy for the offensive zone where you can make a real impact. And psychologically, it's a game-changer. Knowing your goalie has got the first shot covered, it takes some pressure off. You can play with more confidence, make those slightly riskier offensive plays because you know your goalie is solid back there. So yeah, solid rebound control would make Aaron's role a lot easier for sure.

I'm a simple man, brother, I just need our goalie to stop a few pucks. Of course I'm willing to lay down and block a few to help out, but my main role is at the other end of the ice slamming in the garbage left in the crease. If I can do that with a degree of confidence that we aren't going to get scored on any time the puck goes the other way, then I'm all set. So having a guy like Dionne back there, or Kavanagh from my rookie days, is just a huge load off the mind. Either of them are top of the league caliber goalies that you can always rely on for a huge save. If I'm battling trying to slam home a puck and I'm winded when it squirts out and heads the other way, I know Dionne has me covered back there. I can give 110% trying to score knowing there's someone holding up the other end of the bargain.

I think that everyone would agree that a goalie just needs to be a goalie. They do not really need to do much except stop shots. Now, if they are already proficient at that, they can come out the net a bit and make some long passes up the ice to catch a team in a line change. If they can succeed at doing that every now and again, they can move on to the next aspect to work on. They can steal the stick of one of their defenseman and join the rush in full pads. Maybe slap one from the point for someone to tip in? Once they rack up a couple assists, and even some goals, they can move on to the final step of what a goalie should do. Win a face off and deke the hell out of the other goalie scoring the game winning goal. If they cannot managed that, they should just drop the gloves and fight the other goalie for the entertainment of everyone else.

Sad Ketchup plays for the Newfoundland Berserkers of the Simulation Major Junior Hockey League, so far the Newfoundland Berserkers goalies have done relatively well with a .906 save percentage but a 3.44 goals against average is not that great. What the Newfoundland Berserkers need thir goalies to do is to keep them in games, thus far this season the Berserkers have been a mixed bag for results and their defensive play can be lackluster which is proven by their 216 goals for, and 216 goals against. The goaltenders for the Newfoundland Berserkers need to be in position to make saves and save the shots they need to, as long as the Newfoundland Berserkers goalies do not allow more goals than expected by the analytics then they are doing their job. The Newfoundland Berserkers also need their goalies to have good mental as the young Berserkers team often struggles in their zone and depend on their goalie to bail them out. Overall the goalie needs to be the backbone of the team and be on their game every night to give their team a chance to win.

Option 2 - Written Task

Being a goalie isn't easy. Team can score five or more goals and still lose if a goalie isn't putting up a good performance. So it's pretty easy to say what exactly a goalie has to do to make a forwards life easier. Aumy Junior II loves when goalkeepers have a great vision and passing skills. For example, a pass from one side of the ice to the other. If it's successful, forward might go 1 on 1. Goalie has to have a great IQ as well. But most important thing I would say is just his ability to perform well. Goaltender has to save pucks from going in to the net. And if he is doing that well, he is making lifes of all players much easier. Not only forwards. Sometimes you can win with only scoring a one goal then. You just gotta have a great goalie which you can trust in. And I think that it works in both ways. Goalie needs to have good skaters to trust in as well. That's how team sports are working.

OPTION 1

In my plans are to hold a friendly tournament between local kids teams and team of my hockey camp. During it, children will get the necessary experience in preparing for games, funny emotions, maybe they will find new friends. It'll be very important for the younger generation of hockey players. They will increase their game, tactical, mental and physical skills, learn to team play. They will feel the atmosphere of North American hockey and its fans. I believe that kids will be very happy with this event. This tournament will be a good test for their hockey skills. That is very interesting experience to play with kids from different countries. My camp kids will bring home a very large experience, new game ideas, improved skills, and, of course, a a variety of good emotions. Hockey is about good emotions and i want to teach our future players to this thing.

I... am not sure what a goaltender is supposed to do other than stop pucks but we gotta write 150 words on this so here we go. I expect our goaltenders to speak to their posts, worship them to make sure they help us in our games. I am talking going to any kind of place of worship and light a little candle, say a prayer and whatever it is they do in other types of temples and stuff and just make sure all the close shots actually hit the post rather than go in the net. Beyond that, whoever is not in net for a game needs to be a fanboi, cheerleader and waterboy all in one. They need to do something to still show they are a part of the team even if they are not contributing on the ice. Oh and you know they should stop pucks too.
