the yukon malmutes are gonna prepare for the playoffs with firstly relaxing from the bye spot we got and after the first round is over we will watch over the highlights of the team we are facing next to spot some weakness in their playing and also watching our own highlights to see what could be improved on with also the usual practise of shooting, passing, skating and with goalies positioning, hand eye cordination and other stuff then also we will do practice games to see what part of our games again we could improve and what are good enough after that we are gonna also make sure every player is physically fit for playoffs and would be able to play even if the games would go into 4th overtime or just last long overall with also some chilling ofc to not just think of the game and think about some other stuff too

Being last place, despite our intentions to be better this season, has definitely dropped some morale in the Great Falls locker room.  We've thankfully been blessed with a way into the playoffs this season and intend to make the best of it, despite starting off against a tough adversary in Anchorage.  To prepare for this, several of us familiar with Great Falls lore have started bringing in Salmon to "slap" around the ice and in the team common areas.  Back in the inception of the team, there was a team Hall of Fame Defenseman, Arturs Tumov who initiated this practice and ended up having great personal luck and performance as a result.  So, not one to knock a silly superstition, Salmon Slapping has returned to Great Falls.  It is, our hope, that it will alleviate the regular season woes that plagued us and lead us through a surprise win in the series, even though statistically the numbers are definitely against us.

The falcons have prepared by getting in some much needed practice and trying to get necessary player updates in by the weekend deadline, to give us the best chance of competing with QCC who have kind of had our number so far this season. Hopefully the various strategies trialed by our coaching and management over the closing few weeks of the regular season pay off and we hit on something that works. Another really good thing for us in Detroit is the end of shootout hockey, as we tried everything we could throughout the year to get out of our shootout rut with very little success.

In studying the film, it seems like this is going to be an interesting matchup with two teams who have some of the larger active groups of rookies, and could blossom into quite the rivalry over the coming seasons. We need to ensure we slow down Desjardins and the Solbergs in particular, and force the veterans to carry their team, while soliciting good contributions from our second and third lines. It could be that the team with the better performing rookies comes out of this round.

As a member of the Yukon Malamutes, I can easily say that our locker room has been in good spirits all season. We recognize that we are a young team and finishing 10th in the standings is not ideal, but we could have been way worse as we still managed to win our division. In fact, due to our first round bye, we are taking time to rest up and get focused for playoffs whoever we might face next. The older players on the team (some of whom will be playing in the SMJHL playoffs for the last time) are giving tips on how to mentally and physically prep for the playoffs. For example, I asked the very important question of when do I stop shaving in the playoffs? When they begin or when our run begins? The answer is a trade secret so I won't elaborate. Most of us are still getting together to watch the games of the first round together and see how the competition has prepared for the post season as well.

This is the first time that the Detroit Falcons have been able to make it to the playoffs for a couple of seasons, so preparations in the building are being taken very seriously. The team has started ramping up their off-ice strength and conditioning programs, with players needing to be in good shape for the extra shifts coming their way during the playoffs, and the potential for double and triple overtime games. In addition, all the players are having to spend a lot more time than usual in the film room. Knowing everything they can about their opponents tendencies and being fully up to speed with gameplans and tactics is never more important than in the playoffs and the Falcons' coaches are attempting to leave nothing to chance. Given that they face a difficult first round match up and go in as the underdogs, the team are holding each other accountable and making sure everyone gives 110% when it comes to getting as much practice in as they can. We'll see if this translates to success on the ice when the actual games start, but for now the hard work is only set to increase.

Newton is gonna go fishing. He's going to bring some brewskies. Gonna go and buy some cigars. And he's going to fish and contemplate one what else he could have done for this season. Reflect on that and come back the next season with a new hope in is head that he will do better and lead his team through his touch grit and tenacity. But he's gonna try and fish 30 new lakes this off season. He heard Wisconsin have some decent lakes. He has found a new home in Alaska. It's Minnesota but more. He already fought off a bear. He heard that parts of British Columbia have some good fishin'. He's also going to go to the Zoo. He also heard art is pretty neat. Might go to a museum or two.

Lastly, he's going to get a dog. A Malamute and name it Scruffy.

The last time I was on a forum like this was when I was 20.

The Malamutes have been prepping for playoffs since the SMJHL Draft, once we knew it was a guarantee we decided to try to improve all season and get to know our opponents. Like Jexter said, the veterans have been giving us shaving tips in order to best prepare us for our first playoff run, we've been watching tape on all the teams in the playoffs in order to get whatever advantage we can. The team has decided to follow Newton's lead and do some old time hockey preparation, smoking cigars and drinking some brews during the bye week. We have had guys putting on the foil and hitting the punching bag in case we have to get into any playoff scraps and defend Yukon's undefeated in fights streak on the season. The Malamutes have been trying to increase their goalscoring output and have been only practicing penalty shots for the past week and a half, to prepare for all the breakaways they plan on getting in the playoffs.

Since the Kelowna Knights missed the playoffs, Rodrigo Banes is planning to spend the extra time in the offseason training hard and getting ready for next year.

"Kelowna took a big swing drafting me so high, and I want to earn the trust they put in me. This summer is all about hard work, and showing up to training camp ready not only to play, but to set the tone, and push the pace. Pucks deep."
 - Rodrigo Banes at the final media availability of the season
There is certainly work to be done. Roddy was brought in to add depth and strength to the central spine of the Kelowna Knights forward group. After a lukewarm rookie campaign, the plan is to get faster and stronger on the puck, be able to be relied on more on the PK, and play a more significant role 5 on 5.

Big summer for the Banes family! Rodrigo will train under the watchful eye of his father, Roderic Banes, and hopefully some of that defensive aptitude rubs off.

Colorado Times - 12:07 pm

Shadow Fenix was spotted last Saturday skating alone on the ice. With the Raptors being one of two teams to miss the playoffs, it was certainly a disappointing run. We interviewed him to ask him his thoughts.
“So,” asked our reporter, “we’ve heard rumblings that the Raptors are planning to do some secret training this off season. Could you elaborate on what that means for you?”
“I can’t say much,” Fenix replied, “but I will say that the team is taking a bus up to the mountains. It’ll be hard to contact us during that time, but we’ll be back in time for next season.”

Perplexed, our reported probed further. “Are you saying that the team is going to be holding unofficial trainings during the off season, separate from training camp?” Fenix, being a speedy center, was quick to come with a response. “I’m not saying that. It’s certainly not extra trainings that would be against the rule book. Just, imagine it as the Raptors connecting to their prehistoric roots.”

Fenix refused to comment more after that. Our reporter, and media staff were left confused by what this mean, but can only assume that the Raptors are sharpening their teeth and skates, and are going to come back hungry next season.

To prepare for the playoffs Quebec has been only listening to their pregame playlist on loop to make sure they are dialed in and ready to go whenever. Not that they need to be dialed in, they're playing Detroit and should easily beat them.

The Citadels have also been training hard after coasting the last few weeks of the regular season. Which did cost them in the standings but early looks show that the QCC rookies have put a ton of energy (and tpe) behind the scenes and I don't think teams are ready for it. At the beginning of the season you might have thought they were all offense but you can't say that now.

They've also been abstaining from Dennys because Dennys is for winners, which means the regular trips they've taken their during the regular season are on hold until they can bring the cup there.

The Detroit Falcons are going back to the basics in preparation for the playoffs. Thus is especially important because a team can be more than the sum of its parts if everyone sticks to their game plan and does what they are assigned to do, reinforcing the system that the coach has put in place. Against such high powered opponents such as the Quebec City Citadelles, and future second and third round opponents, the team needs to know their fundamental skills and the game plan so that the whole team is in sync with each other. That way, weaknesses are minimized and strengths are maximized with each player contributing their strengths to cover up for other players' weak spots

The players are also reviewing lots of game tape in order to scout and prepare for opposing players. Knowing their little tells and tics might just tip the ice in their favour when they can predict what the opponents are going to do. Hockey IQ is something important and not a stat that can be quantified in numbers, but it can provide results beyond what might be expected.
