Trading Card Team Posting Freak
With the hectic week leading up to the S74 Simulation Hockey League, getting grilled in scouting, not getting scouted, not getting draft picks leaked and struggling to do a mock draft, it's Squid back again to check in with the S74 Yukon Malamute Puppers and see where all of us went and to give a bit of insight into the players these teams picked up.
With recent Malamute graduate and S73 Challenger Cup Champion HFFO hosting the draft, this season saw 7 Yukon rookies get picked up. Two rookies were picked in the first round, two in the second round, and one in the third, fifth and one at the end. Drafted 7th Overall: Squidwardo Tentacles - Drafted to the Seattle Argonauts Left Wing - 6'4 185 lbs - 20 Goals 35 Assists 55 Points in 66 Games - 163 Hits Best Attributes - Getting Open, Offensive Read - 15 Weakest Attributes - Shotblocking, Screening I ended up being the first Malamute off the board this season, with Seattle trading Benson Fiorentini to Tampa Bay for a S74 1st(7th) and 2nd(26th) as well as a 1st and 2nd in S75 and taking me at 7th. I've been doing heavy media and helping out with some jobs to increase my bank and I believe I have the biggest bank account of first gen players, sitting close to $50M in order to buy more trading cards. My player build so far has been a counter attacking forward which has been fine offensively, but I have not been good at defense (thanks FHM). I put up a team leading 163 hits and hope to see an improvement in all stats next season now that I hit the 350 TPE cap. Drafted 17th Overall: Langston Hardison-Laurent - Drafted to the Winnipeg Aurora Left Wing - 6'3 202 lbs - 16 Goals 24 Assists 40 Points in 66 Games Best Attributes - Getting Open, Puckhandling, Shooting Accuracy, Offensive Read, Acceleration - 15 Weakest Attributes - Shot Blocking, Screening With Hardison-Laurent falling to 17th, Winnipeg jumped on the opportunity and traded for the pick by giving up a S75 2nd, and a 1st and 2nd in S77 to Seattle. With a healthy 13M bank account and some of the best custom made memes in the Yukon Discord, Hardison-Laurent is a great pickup for this Winnipeg team to strengthen their prospect pool. LHL was plagued with an unfortunate run of a bad shooting percentage for the majority of the season before it started to balance out just before the playoffs began, which got him to score a couple more goals to hit the 40 point mark just before the season ended. After pushing up some key offensive stats to 15 after hitting the 350 TPE cap, look out for LHL heading into next season as he is primed to have a strong breakout season. Drafted 30th Overall: Jaxson Reaper - Drafted to the New England Wolfpack Left Defense - 5'11 196 lbs - 8 Goals 24 Assists 32 Points in 66 Games 52 Takeaways 79 Blocks Best Attributes - Passing -15 Puckhandling, Offensive Read, Shooting Range, Getting Open - 14 Weakest Attributes - Screening, Shot Blocking, Speed, Strength Jaxon Reaper is a solid two way defender, playing most of the season on the second pair in the defensive zone, often with the next pick Kaarlo Koivunen. The second highest power play ice time among defenders on the team, Reaper was trusted to quarterback the power play at times throughout the season splitting time between both the first and second units. As a recreate with one of the biggest banks on the team, Jaxon isn't very talkative in the discord but let's his on-ice results speak for themselves as his player continues to grow and mature. Drafted 36th Overall: Kaarlo Koivunen - Drafted to the Calgary Dragons Right Defense - 6'1 200 lbs - 6 Goals 30 Assists 36 Points in 66 Games 57 Takeaways 104 Blocks Best Attributes - Passing, Offensive Read, Stickchecking, Defensive Read -14 Weakest Attributes - Screening, Shot Blocking Kaarlo Koivunen was one of the most active voices in the locker room throughout the season, keeping everyone updated on the local Finnish team's results as well as news. Chipping in on offense through the second pair as well as the second power play unit, Koivunen put up 30 assists and over 100 blocks on the season as a two way defender. With a solid ability to read the game with a 14 Offensive Read and Defensive Read stat, Koivunen uses his knowledge of Finnish hockey to be responsible at both ends of the ice. Drafted 43rd Overall: Newton "Lizard" Campbell - Drafted to the Seattle Argonauts Right Defense - 6'5 208 lbs - 9 Goals 20 Assists 29 Points in 66 Games 36 Takeaways 158 Blocks Best Attributes - Positioning, Defensive Read, Balance - 14 Weakest Attributes - Screening, Shot Accuracy, Shot Range Newton Campbell has been a great defensive defender for the Malamutes all season, playing lots of tough minutes and finishing second on the team in blocked shots with 158. He had a very brief stint on the power play and had 26 points at even strength as a defensive defender, which is pretty impressive in my opinion. Adding on another 33 blocked shots in the playoffs, Campbell has been an absolute rubber magnet on the ice. Not very active in the discord, Campbell is the strong silent type that usually comes in gets the job done and moves on to the next one. Drafted 87th Overall: Fred Bread - Drafted to the San Francisco Pride Right Wing - 5'7 225 lbs - 24 Goals 29 Assists 53 Points in 66 Games - Best Attributes - Shooting Accuracy - 14 All Offensive Stats - 13 Weakest Attributes - Hitting, Stickchecking, Shot Blocking Fred Bread came into the Yukon being picked 38th overall in the SMJHL draft, and put up an amazing season with 53 points as well as 24 goals. Leading all Yukon rookies in goals with 24 on the season, Fred was able to push the pace offensively with his strong offensive stats, with his shot being his best attribute. The hardworking 5'7 winger was able to show that size doesn't matter as he punished teams for underestimating him in the regular season, as well as put up a solid playoff run with 9 points in 13 games. Drafted 126th Overall: Tony Blundetto - Drafted to the Tampa Bay Barracuda Right Wing - 5'9 180 lbs - 12 Goals 20 Assists 32 Points in 66 Games - 103 Hits Best Attributes - Passing, Puckhandling - 14 Weakest Attributes - Screening, Shot Blocking, Shooting Range Tony Blundetto joined the team just before the start of the season and after the draft. After making a deal with his "family" to leave the "business" in New Jersey, Tony joined the Yukon after faking his death to hide himself from some "business partners". Tony was able to amass 32 points throughout the season, and used his talents from his business to lay 103 hits and chirp his way through the opposing teams rattling them to their cores. Unfortunately some business partners might have "had a talk with him" as he hasn't been able to update the Yukon locker room recently. 5664 characters / 1212 words
