The Anchorage Armada, and more specifically Carter Crutchfield prepared for the SMJHL Playoffs by reenacting that scene in Rocky where he's punching the shit out of the meat in the meat locker. As a huge fan of the Rocky franchise, Crutchfield wanted to see if the training was actually true to life. Considering the Armada got eliminated in the second round and Crutchfield did not do too much to help the team, I would have to say it was not true to form.

Besides that one day of training, the Armada studied a ton of tape on the other SMJHL teams in the playoffs this season to identify their weaknesses and try to come up with game plans to exploit them. However, more tape review is needed for next season in order for the Armada to sail their way to a SMJHL Championship. It was a disappointing season this time around, but hoping for better in the next season.

The Anchorage Armada spent a week preparing for puck drop in the SMJHL playoffs by attempting some extreme team bonding exercises. After saying we didn't have the budget for it all season, GM Gabe Johnson suddenly realized that he didn't get a bonus for going under budget and found himself with a ton of extra money, so he invested it in the team under the guise of doing things he had always wanted to do. Firstly, the team went into the wilderness to play paintball, forming small and tightly-knit squads to focus on communication. Johnson sat in a hunting blind and fired paintballs at anyone he could see with no threat to himself. After this, the whole squad rented out a massive, authentic Finnish sauna. Gabe said he had gotten embroidered towels but "forgot them" (the venue did not provide towels so everyone got ass splinters). Then, with the remaining funds, Gabe organized a team dinner at Applebees (no appetizers and no beverages).

With the playoffs right around the corner the Battleborn did anything any normal team would to prepare... They took their pet frogs to the casino and started gambling away hoping that they could get rid of all of their bad luck before the upcoming games as they knew with the Raptors oh so close that it was going to be a rough series and they needed all the help they could get. Literally Wizard had done the exact opposite of what he was meant to do at the casino and won big on roulette. He had chosen 27 and put $1,000 on it. Well he may have gotten lucky but it struck down the Battleborns luck in the playoffs as they came up short against one of the better teams in the league. Aleris has decided to take action on Wizard and ban him from the Nevada roulette tables until further notice and will be fining him $500,000. The rookie may never recover.

Herman Ståhl, starting goalie for the St. Louis Scarecrows was among the players in the league to not make the playoffs. But the work still continues. Specifically, time is being put into making sure he is ready for the World Junior Championsship where he will be representing Team Rhine. The goal there is obvious. Medals.

Most of the work is being put into ensuring that his play on the puck is better ahead of next season. He also wants to really improve his overall saving ability so he can stand on his head and bring in some Ws when it's necessary.

The team overall did not go for vacation immediately after the season. A week off, and then straight into off-season training to make sure they user their time to improve on and off the ice. As for the team overall, a tough next season awaits. But that is a challenge Herman is ready to face.

The Regina Elk prepared for the playoffs the same way they finished the season - working as hard as possible to pull things together as a team. The Elk were unfancied going into the season, this was to be a ‘re-tooling’ season, installing the new players into the lineup and working on their tactics, honing strategies, ready to perform going forward. They worked extremely hard during the season and ended in a competitive note, racking up wins where they had no business to earlier in the season. The new players stepped up, learned the system and really started to take the game to the other teams, who were previously perceived as ‘better’. Going into the playoffs, the Regina Elk are continuing this by continuing to hone their craft and spending hours in the tape room, watching the Yukon Malamutes and picking out weaknesses. This should serve them well in the upcoming first round.

I think QCC prepared for the playoffs like any other team, working hard but not too much so players dont get injured before these important games, since QCC had a bye week they had even more time to prepare for their opponent, which i think they used up well. Despite having practices like normal quite a few players were still staying and practicing on their own after practices, I guess it was mainly teh enrvosity of the rookies as they were seen the most on the ice trying their best and to show their team they are important part of it aswell. Since rookies wree taking up all the space on the ice after practices some of the older players rather watched recordings of the teams they were supposed to face so they feel prepared for 100%. Saying all this u can imagine that anyone who wasnt working hard felt pretty bad about themselves, so this motivated them to work even harder for their team so they could all make it to the finals together.

Nathan Abel is DFA claim for the Anchorage Armada and when the postseason rolled around Nathan took to the boats tradition of taking a battleship loaned by the navy and blow up an ice pond. To shoot the guns you must first load the guns and those shells were heavy it took 3 people just to load one of the 3 shells needed to load one gun out of 6. It took hours just to load everything. But after that the entire team clambered up on to the deck and watched the fireworks as they shot the round and the lake was blown 500 feet into the ice and water rained down apon us and we basked n=in making the playoffs. Then we all hit the bar to celebrate and party with all of our friends as we had made it to the peak. After that day through our lives went back to normal as we work up early went to the practice ring and got back to the grind.

The Newfoundland Berserkers thankfully found themselves in another playoff spot despite the difficult division. Any other division and we likely take a higher seed but that's how the cookie crumbles sometimes. While in real life such a tough division may lead to a tired roster but thankfully that's not the case in a sim league (I think?). Expectations were high for the first round but the locker room didn't want to overlook the competition. Practice continued as normal with the day before the series started being a walk-through to get our bodies ready for the contest. With our team hosting the first game the arena had plenty of prepwork to do and advertising programs to generate. In between practice and meetings several players were tasked with media obligations and interviews leading up to the series. Coaching staff did a great job of stepping in when they thought it would negatively impact the players' preperation for the series and it seemed to work out well. The team would go on to win round one in five games. Round Two you ask? Don't remember it. On to the next season!

Expectations are pretty low for the Regina Elk in what was a rebuilding year. After losing many key players this off season, the team finished 11th overall. If they weren't playing in a weak division they would have missed the playoffs but luckily it wasn't the case. We're about to play the Yukon Malamutes, a good team but not a powerhouse like Colorado. So in the back of your head even though you're not the favorites you still believe you have a chance. Game plan is all gonna be around stopping Langston Hardison-Laurent, probably this years MVP. Yukon is also quite a young team so if we can somehow contain him, it can be done. We've done a lot of video sessions with the coaching staff the last few days. At this time of year, practice isn't as important, it's all about staying healthy. The pressure isn't on us at all as underdogs, we like that role. We just have to go out there, give our all, pucks in deep, a full 60 minutes effort and good things will happen.

The Carolina Kraken did not make the playoffs this year, and I am blame @Frenchie for that. But either way, Ongo Gablogian had a lot of extra time on his hands. He spent this time not training his body, not training his hands, not working on his cardio, and certainly not trying to get better in any sort of way. He went back to Philadelphia, boiled some denims and hung out with Charlie and Duncan under the bridge. He also spent an entire day convincing his kids his dead ex wife was still a live, only to trick them in to digging up their mom's dead carcass, and all of it was just to prank them because they told him he was going senile. It has been a busy off season for Ongo so far, but he is a financier for schemes and such, and that's just what he does.

We knew playoffs were going to be rough. We are a young team and so we put a lot of focus on teambuilding and setting expectations. It was not about trying to win the finals this year but rather to prepare mentally for the future. We took a lot of time talking about how we think we should lay up the strategy in the coming seasons when we expect to fight more for advancements in the playoffs. We spent a lot of time preparing tactics against our opponents and analysing their strengths and weaknesses, especially in special teams, and where we could exploit them. We also concluded that we would do a lot of talking and how we need to adapt mentally between these games. This far into the season you cannot really change anything regarding physical form or strength it's rather all in your head which means we even now started preparing for next season where we will have to scrap it out with all we have because it's not about who is the best player anymore. It's all about who wants to win the most. And so while we did prepare for playoffs, perhaps we actually more prepared for the playoffs next season, setting our mentality on one thing only. Advancing in the playoffs far enough to claim ourselves as #1 with our newfound experience from this playoff series, which with this method, made us more relaxed as we were striking from a disadvantage.

Quebec City came into the playoffs with a chip on their shoulder and a mountain of confidence that this was their year. Because of the phenomenal regular season, QCC tried not to fix something that wasn't broken and remained true but there was obviously a more serious vibe in the locker room. Less jokes were cracked in practice as people focused on improving their play. Nobody wanted to be the weak link for the 100+ point Cittadelles. The Solbergs even stopped their bickering and focused on their teamwork. A sense of pride in the jersey formed through all of the players who, when it was time to hit the ice, focused on unselfish, good hockey. Supah's hits were harder and Celly's goals were faster. The team reached a peak as it seemed all players, from first line to last, clicked. The season ended earlier then QCC hoped but they are still greatly hopeful in this upcoming year.
