[2x Team Spotlight]! Newfoundland Berserkers do the 3 peat
#1

From S62 to S64 the Newfoundland Berserkers were a powerhouse that could not be stopped, winning 3 Four star cup championships.

S62: The one loss playoff.

Carolina managed to beat the Berserkers once in the 3rd round of the playoffs, handing them a shutout lost 4/11/29. Outside of that loss, the Berserkers were not shut out again the entire playoffs. In 13 games played the Berserkers managed to dismantle everybody else, With only Devin Williams-II, Jay O'Neil, and Merlin Metzler being held without a goal. Every player contributed, with Jeff Larsson leading the way with 16 points. Goaltender Jonas Johansson won 12 out of 13 contest pulling an amazing 1.61 GAA and a .929 save %. Jeff Larsson also lead the way with a 26.7% Shooting percentage on 30 shots.

S63: Beat us once? Shame on.... me?

Following the S62 cup run, the Berserkers once again managed to go 12-1, with one sole regulation loss the entire playoffs. However, the team clearly peaked, as they also had an overtime loss to Detroit, so by my count that is 2 losses. All down hill from here.... Detroit managed to sneak a win in on 4/1/30. To add to the drama, Newfoundland loss on 5/5/30 to Great Falls, only to win it all 2 days later with a demanding 6-0 win. Jeff Larsson took a backseat to Emeril LAgasse, who cooked up 21 points in 14 games. This time around only Luca Hunziker and Merlin Metzler were left off the scoreboard, but all players contributed with assist , points, and blocks. The team once again used Jonas Johansson, who went 12-1-1 with a 2.16 GAA and a .906 save %.

S64: at some point, it's gotta be cheating right?

Back to back sounds good, but back to back to back sounds better right? That's what Newfoundland thought as well. This time Newfoundland started the playoffs with a loss to Carolina, with the score of 3 to 2. However, this only pissed off Newfoundland, who went on to beat Carolina 8-1 the next game, 12-2 the following game, 5-1 for the 3-1 lead, and finished out the series 6-2.this time, however, round 3 saw something the Newfoundland hasn't seen in 3 playoffs... 2 losses in the same series! After beating the Raptors 3-1 in the first game, Colorado bounced back with a 5-2 victory themselves. Newfoundland countered with a 6-3 victory to take the 2-1 series lead, only for Colorado to bounce back with a 6-2 win for themselves. with the series tied 2-2, Newfoundland found another gear, scoring 4 goals to the Raptors 1 to take the 3-2 series lead. Game 6 saw the Raptors go extinct, scoring no goals to Newfoundland's 3. Newfoundland went on to dismantle the Quebec City Owls for a 4-0 sweep to get the TIC-TAC-TOE 3 in a row 4 cup championship. This time around only Matsith Soderberg-Tremblay managed to stay off the goal sheet. Scoring was once again very balanced, with the top 3 point getters all getting 17 points (Mikko Rashford, Alexander Mackenzie, and Emeril Lagasse). Jonas Johansson pulled 12 wins and 3 losses, with a 2.25 GAA and a .903 save %, the highest GGA and lowest Save % out of the three runs. The team was clearly tired of winning...

S65: All rides must come to an end.

For the first time in 4 years, Newfoundland had to play in the first round of the playoffs. Rusty at the start, Newfoundland won in overtime against Vancouver, 5-4 in overtime. The Whalers wouldn't challenge the 3- time 4 star Champs again, losing 0-7, 2-8, and lastly 1-2 with Newfoundland pushing hard for the 4th win in a row. Next up, Maine tried to wood up against the juggernaut. Newfoundland beat Maine 5-3 in the first contest, only to be beaten by the Timber 3-1 in the second. Going into game 3 with the series tied up at 1 a piece, Newfoundland dismantled the Timber to the tune of 5-2. That score was so nice they did it twice, beating Maine again 5-2 in game 4, and now having the commanding 3-1 series lead. Not to go out without swinging, Maine pulled a 5-3 win out to push game 6, only to get stomped down 1-4 allowing Newfoundland to advance to round 3 yet again. The Battle of the B's was Blazin, as the Battleborn came out swinging, only to get Berserkered down to a score of 5-2. The Battleboard battled back, pulling a 7-4 win, to tie it up 1-1. Newfoundland doesn't like ties, so they won the next 2 with the scores of 6-2 and 3-2, getting that 3-1 series lead. Nevada took game 5 with a score of 4-2, only to drop game 6, with Newfoundland winning 3-1. Now, the 4 Star cup was on, and the only thing standing between Newfoundland and 4 4 star cups... was Detroit.

Detroit clawed Newfoundland down 7-1 in the first game. Newfoundland fought back and squeaked out an overtime win , 2-1 to tie the series 1-1. Newfoundland again said "we don't like ties" and took 2 more wins, 5-2, and 3-2 (OT) to get that Commanding 3-1 lead. However, the Falcons were not about to go out without a fight. Game 5 went to Detroit, winning 6-1, followed by winning in game 6, to a score of 2-1. GAme 7 came up, on 5/9.2032... and Detroit handed Newfoundland a devastating loss, scoring 6 goals to the Berserkers 2. The win streak was over....

Detroit won.

The Newfoundland Berserkers played 23 games this playoffs, more than the last 3. Scoring was once again very even, with AJ Williams leading the team with 27 points. Only one player, Pertti Samulio, managed to go without any goals. The problem that hit Newfoundland was goaltending. Jonas Johansson, the star goaltender, was pulled up to the Majors by Winnipeg for S65. Filling the hole was Nina Tucker, who was making their first playoff appearance. In fact, with 327 TPE, Nina Tucker was probably IA at the time of the playoffs. Still, Nina Tucker went 15-8 in the playoffs, more losses than Johansson had in 3 cup runs. Nina pulled a 2.81 GAA with a .901 Save %. Still not bad, but not at the level that Jonas Johansson was. Being pulled for one game, Samuel Piccard also made one apperance in relief for Nina, getting a .933 save % and 2.37 GAA. Piccard made 14 saves on 15 shots.

Newfoundland wouldn't win a cup again until S70.

In closing, the 3 peat was an awesome feature, and something I don't think we will see again for a very long time.
